I found this picture today in a gallery on the 2005 Tokyo Hobby Show (which is going on RIGHT NOW) and instantly fell in love. At first glance it may look like I didn't do much with this, but I spent a good two hours making this just the way I wanted, adjusting the lighting, coloring, focus, background and details. Whew...!
That's right, I didn't use a scan for the source image. I felt that a scan of this picture would make it too flat and the perspective would be lost. I hope the "real-life" feel I intended it to have comes across to you.
