The year is decited depend on the shio... we have 12 shio : rat, cow, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, goat, monkey, chicken, pig, and dog... ^^
my shio is snake~ ^^ do you know what is your shio?

oh yeah, this year is rat's year...and the element is earth...
last year is pig's year, and next year is cow's year...
that is traditional culture, tyson... ^^
