to be or not to be

Ok, so we had this discussion in the sb, which i'll post here
$damoser 49 minutes ago
*is hoping the top fave of the day gets knocked off the list soon* don't get me wrong i love FF7, but that wall is, well, not deserving of a top fave... about bleach... i've only seen a couple episodes, it didn't really appeal to me.
~Spudsy2061 48 minutes ago
FF 7 and Bleach both suck
$damoser 47 minutes ago
Must you be a troll?
~akiranyo 45 minutes ago
For me Bleach is a good anime, nothing more, nothing less. Far from my favs.
~Spudsy2061 44 minutes ago
Im not trolling, just stating fact, im sorry but it's time we advance out tastes and move beyond built-for-14-year-olds storylines
~akiranyo 43 minutes ago
Spudsy: Than consider the fact that my fav is Di Gi Charat :3
$damoser 42 minutes ago
Hmm... so going into the sb and almost always disagreeing with peopel, and posting things like "this is one of the stupidest threads ever" isn't trolling? could've fooled me.
~Spudsy2061 41 minutes ago
I ahte di gi charat with a passion, and no disagreeing passionately isn't torlling
~akiranyo 40 minutes ago
I myself hate in SB stuff like "XY anime rulez!" or "XY anime sucks!" Everybody has his own taste and that should be accepted.
$damoser 39 minutes ago
Aki, don't feed the troll.
~Spudsy2061 37 minutes ago
Right and im stating my tastes, and no im not trolling damoser, im just sick of all the bleach and FF 7 love here that's all
$damoser 36 minutes ago
So why are the majority of your thread posts argumentative?
~Spudsy2061 32 minutes ago
Damoser: they're argumentative because the average age on here is like 14-16 so most people haven't developed a complex taste that shows them why things like FF suck, im much older so I need more complex things than fanboy games/anime, also (speak please)
~crimsontide14 32 minutes ago
FF doesnt suck you just probanly dont have the attention span required to actually pass a game
~Spudsy2061 30 minutes ago
@crimnson: a) watch your tounge, b) i have a long attention span, ok, I've played most of the FF's until the end, they mostly suck since the SNES days, @damoser: go to my what makes a video game good, and i'm not trashing some games there i actually prais
$damoser 27 minutes ago
Why don't you just keep trying to convince yourself that your mature. your actions prove otherwise. snobbery is not akin to good taste. and don't tell someone else to watch his tongue when you started the argument, your no more important than him
~mcz928 26 minutes ago
Don't go into trying to connect age with taste. Too variable to justify. I like Bleach actually. Rather spotty at times but it's good. I'm finding the manga better though.
~Spudsy2061 26 minutes ago
Ok a) insulting and arguing are two different things, b) im not convincing myself anything, like why a crappy RPG is good, c) im not acting snobby, just stating what i feel, but since you disagree with it, you try to put me down to elevate yourself
~crimsontide14 26 minutes ago
@spusds a) i didnt say anything that would reuire me to watch what i say so go to hell b) well you must like the games alittle to have actully playeed them and spend the time passing them
~Spudsy2061 24 minutes ago
@crimson: the attention span comment @mcz: age does have to do with it since the brain doesnt stop devleoping until 25, when you get through a good portion of college, you'll look back and see what i mean, the bleach manga is OK, but the anime is terrible
~mcz928 24 minutes ago
Had to generalize that bit way too much. Tastes mature with age, however, complexity is individualistic.
~Spudsy2061 23 minutes ago
@crimson: no i don't have to like a game to completely play through, i play through the whole thing so i can properly judge it objectively, it would be somewhat dishonorable to quit a game then claim it to suck cause you've only played 1/10th of it
~Spudsy2061 22 minutes ago
Im serious because i'm being personally attacked for disagreeing with most people on the site, and being labeled as the bad for such
~crimsontide14 19 minutes ago
Well your beign attacked cause you know most people here in AP like FF and the you say its sucks so what did you expect huh and you must like the games a bit if you payed for them and you dont have to play through the entire game to know if the game sucks
$damoser 19 minutes ago
Spiuds you always get upset easy. why don't you just calm down, and try to get along. your word doesn't have to be final, you don't have to be right. all your doing is causing sb stress, which is needless.
~mcz928 19 minutes ago
Size development may cease, but overall development continues well into age. Nueron reconnections make the brain more efficient as long as one feeds it. Developmentally, it doesn't really stop until old age.
$damoser 17 minutes ago
The brain never stops developing if it's kept active.
~mcz928 17 minutes ago
He was speaking in terms of size constraints. Your head won't get any bigger from mid 20s to when your 40.
~Spudsy2061 15 minutes ago
@crimson: hating FF doesn't mean you can attack me, argue sure, i'll present my points, but attacking is wrong / @Damoser: a) the brain stops developing at 25, it's proven science b) I'm not trying to make my word final, but at least listen to it's reason
$damoser 13 minutes ago
Spuds you have no clue what your talking about. the brains potential is limitless. don't try to argue science with me, you lose hard.
~Spudsy2061 11 minutes ago
@damoser: it's freakin ture, the brain stops developing at age 25, omg it's been tested time and time again and the same result has come out / @crimson: nevermind you missed my point
~mcz928 11 minutes ago
You're missing my point, development can be split into categories: physical size and activity (which involves the whole neuron stuff). There may not be more of them, but reconnections will make the system more effective.
$damoser 7 minutes ago
It sure will be nice to see spuds eat a piece of humble pie sometime. and along those lines, how bout you open a thread int he realm about it. about the complexities of growth and maturiy, and from whence it comes. we'll discuss it there.
~Spudsy2061 7 minutes ago
Ok the brain's capacity to hold information is limitless, but size and physical complexity stop at 25, why do you think it's be scientifically proven that the brain can only remember like 600 names in its lifetime?
~DeepDragoon 5 minutes ago
Any links to scientific papers on the brain stopping development at 25? Also how can the brain's capacity to store information be limitless but capped at 600 names.
~Spudsy2061 5 minutes ago
Because the admins for some reason hate my threads and lock a lot of them like 3 posts in claiming some BS or another, oh i try to be humble, and i have been on the forums sometimes, but im done arguing, im going back to Rock Band
$damoser 4 minutes ago
That's rediculous. i prolly know over 600 people by name, and i know almost all teh lyrics to prolly about 1000 songs, many of these i haven't seen nor heard in yrs
~Spudsy2061 4 minutes ago
I guess i worded that wrong, like the brain's ability to reason and what not are limitless, but it's memory is not, also i'll have to get the links from a friend when he comes out of his comp lab
$Fudgey-sama 2 minutes ago
Man this is one of the most entertaining internet arguments i have seen in a while XD
~Spudsy2061 2 minutes ago
We read the site together but he has all the links and what not, and no damoser it's not rediculous, anyway im done arguing with people who insult me, Rock Band
$damoser 2 minutes ago
I'll start a topic in the realm, and i'll send you the link. for the rest of you just look for it in the philosopher's realm, if you want to continue this, that's assuming he'll try to defend his faulty reasoning.
~mcz928 1 minute ago
Mid 20's actually. Neuroscientists monitored the relative size of human brains (via brain scans - CAT, MRI, etc...) across ages. Growth stops at one point. If it didn't we'd all have trouble putting on t-shirts.

Spudsy2061 1 minute ago
Yes but the average age is 25
so from all of that, the point of the thread is what is mature? how can it be determined? and does it have anything to do with the brain development. and while where at it, go ahead and post all the scientific facts about brain development you can find. also, what are complexities in taste, and how are they defined? do they have anything to do with maturity.
btw, i deleted some irrelevant posts, and i hope i got it all in order.

Our brain is our only way to perceive this world. Without a brain, there is no life. People do not even breathe without a brain. It is proofed scientifically.
Taking into account that maturity is a concept and it circles the best way of living, we may say that it is reached when a human being is able to perceive the majority of society rules and judge, based on them, what is wrong.
This is very difficult task because even so called adults commit errors, such as moral or even crimes. The brain capacity is very important. It determines what we can learn and in what speed. People have different capabilities this way, and so different way of seeing life, judging and living. Unfortunately, the majority of people do not know what is best for them, only a minority.
How big a brain is does not mean a big capacity, if so Einstein would have a big head. But to perceive this world, we must have the ability to learn, and this means brain capacity. Intelligence is related to brain capacity, maturity depends on intelligence which is related to brain capacity, so maturity is a matter of intelligence, and a matter of brain capacity.

Odd, 2 weeks and this is the first time I see this thread.
If you mean how we can tell apart between a mature person and a, bluntly said, immature kid, the answer is simple and does not even require an explanation, nor elaboration. Everywhere, this is judged by behavior and reasoning.
That guy you were arguing with, fits the profile. Illogical and immature reasoning.
Point taken. The end.
Brain development? In today's society this means little to nothing. In the past, it did mean a lot, but no more.
Now, regardless of age, for the most part, nearly every person you meet can be considered immature. Who's to blame? I already answered this before.
The real question is how do you deal with such a person.
My top choice is to simply ignore 'em. I once read somewhere the following quote: "It's better to lose an argument against a wise person than to win against a fool."
However, determining whether someone is exclusively a fool or not, can in itself be a hassle. Some of the people here on TPR are immature themselves. I, do not prosecute them, though. Such people are needed as well.

Major brain development means more capacity, but that doesn't mean everyone uses it. It's the same thing with your body, if you don't use it enough your muscles will atrophy, so I don't think it all depends on how old are you, and according to this you can make your brain grow if you train it.
Personally I don't like Bleach nor Naruto because I find them boring with all the fillers and it seems inconsistent, but I don't go around telling they suck (well, maybe I do, but I don't really mean it), I don't consider those kind of animes crap but there are better ones and they seem a little overrated to me and I think that's what Spuds was trying to say only he's more radical about it.
I saw this thread the same day it was posted but I was busy at the time, I looked for it later but I couldn't find it.

AgonOdd, 2 weeks and this is the first time I see this thread.
I saw this thread the same day it was posted but I was busy at the time, I looked for it later but I couldn't find it.
I don't like Bleach or Naruto either but I do like One Piece. And its not about maturity, its about entertainment. What you watch and like doesn't necessarily reflect on a persons maturity. Even playwrites of tragedies and deeper material still delve into lighter things once in a while. And if the brain didn't stop developing (not through evolution at least) then we'd see a lot more senior citizen telephathics.
Point is, Agons right. The dudes a douche.
Point is, Agons right. The dudes a douche.
So we all agree on that point. the other point, which was more subtle, is how is maturity related to what we enjoy, or should it even be considered. renegade touched on it, but it's something that people use to try to make themselves seem like more mature, better peopel, and i completely disagree with the reasoning.
my father enjoys watching cartoons, and i don't mean anime, i mean saturday morning kids stuff. i find entertainment in them every once in a while too. some would call me immature for even liking it, but i don't enjoy it the same way i did when i was a child. i enjoy the subtleties that i never even noticed when a child. i feel that the opinion that something is strictly for children is simply snobbery. an excuse to try to sound impressive. i also feel that people who use this as a crutch are truly insecure. constantly trying to look their best, or what they perceive people would think is best, to garner approval. i also think that spuds fits that category well. if you look at his UP, it's full of bragging comments. being proud of one's accomplishments and being pompous should not coincide. a pompous attitude, in my opinion, is the direct result of trying too hard to prove ones worth. it thus becomes habit, and a way of life, and the person no longer realizes they are doing it.
what do you guys think?

Maturity shouldn't be looked upon by what we enjoy to do in our free time, rather how we handle situations.
I work retail and let me tell you, you'd be surprised how many people who are well older than myself act like little children about certain things. I'm still big into video games and cartoons, I know I can still be immature about things, but on the overall I consider myself to be rather mature simply because of how I handle the majority of situations. The fact that I can go into a situation understanding something. For example, I don't care for Naruto or Bleach or One Piece, simply because I feel they progress for far too long. However, it doesn't change the fact that I can find good points about each of the shows and can agree on the whole that without filler, they are great animes.
Personally, I think it's going to depend on the person. I don't know if some feel they are insecure, or if they simply are like that because of who they are. I couldn't say. I think there are quite a few factors that go into maturity on the whole, but the above response is simply one of the major reasonings, to me, behind maturity.

I enjoy cartoons too, specially the old ones, and I don't think that's immature.
damosi feel that the opinion that something is strictly for children is simply snobbery. an excuse to try to sound impressive.
The argument that if it's cartoons then it is for children is just stupid, and the opposite too, I have a friend who watches a lot of anime but he finds boring shows with real actors and that seems a little immature to me.
damoi also feel that people who use this as a crutch are truly insecure. constantly trying to look their best, or what they perceive people would think is best, to garner approval.
You hit the nail on that one, and I used that argument against Spuds (I wonder if he'll show up here) in the ffxii thread.
Someone who says "i watch deathnote therefore i'm more mature" thinks that the levels of depth in a cartoon (entertainment, whatever) are something you graduate from. As you get used to the blatant slapstick humor of lighter material, so should your understanding of story lines and plot twists. This is completely absurd though because said person is only taking care of the maturity that he shows to others saying "what I watch is mature therefore making myself mature". When in fact, he could just be as immature as a ten year old when nobody is looking, much worse when he's deciding something silently in his brain. If he were to carry on this projection of maturity then he should also include everything else he does for leisure like sports (I play chess instead of basketball because I'm more mature), reading material (I read Dan Brown instead of Rowling because I'm more mature), or even taste in food (I eat veggie burgers because being a vegan is more mature) and hobbies (I collect stamps because its more mature that Pokemon cards).
Maturity is based on how well we make decisions in life.
We choose to do the little "immature" things like watching cartoons or collecting figurines for personal reasons and the genuine enjoyment of it all. Nothing else but a release of whatever desires we have, whatever connection we get from our youth, and simply having fun. Now, is having fun immature? Definitely not.

Well it seems we're all on the same page here..... well d'uh! it has to be the same page, but other than web pages, we all agree. (lame joke dan, lame!)
though i was hoping to get a little more into the psychology of it. i'm surprised Agon hasn't said anything on the psychology of it, he proclaiming his love for understanding people's behavior. but it seems we all have the same understanding of it on both levels at any rate. so thanks for your input.
maybe others will say something in here. i would like a debate, just because debates are fun.
oh and, no i don't think spuds will show up, he avoids me.

You are trying to argue with a guy who thinks his head stops at 25.
What do you think?
Does it stop?
I am near that age, frankly, if it did, I would stop to remember names already, or the phone numbers of some 50 people, and not using a handphone adress book.
Also, trolling is trolling, I can smell a troll when he is 3 meters away, or whatever distance the internet has shortened it to. It is pointless.
If there was any indication of brain to stop functioning, damn right you better have alzheimers or whatever.
