And that out of a diesel engine, this car killed all his competititors in the 24 hours of Le Mans of this year.
But it seems that this car will get some serious next year, because Peugeot has developed a V12 diesel engine as well which produces an incredible amount of horsepowers and Peugeot also announced that it will this engine in their new Le Mans race car.

The TDI got advantages coz the displacement of the TDI is allowed by the regulation to have considerably larger displacement, its allowed to run on higher boost as well.

The pug 907 concept car V12 diesel is rumoured to be even more advanced and powerfull than the TDI putting out near 700HP.

in 2 years this benefits for diesel engine will be abolished, by then all engines, diesel and gasoline would be having same displacement & boost restriction.

This is to encourage development of diesel engines for competition uses.

Diesel is petroleum distilate product, just like gasoline

Yet un like gasoline diesel burns at much higher temperature, they also dont vapourize as easily due to its moluecular structure.

Diesel is much heavier than gasoline, its harder to pulverize into mist, therefore diesel engine uses injectors instead of carburateurs

Despite all the drawback of the diesel fuel compared to gasoline, The advantages of diesel fuel over gasoline is that it produces far greater calorie than gasoline.

It burns slower, cleaner and at a stable & predictable rate.

Therefore despite the lack of refinement, diesel engine are by far more efficient than gasoline of same capacity.

the fact that gasoline engine today uses somewhat similar injectors ( EFI/MPI/PGM-FI/ What ever FI ) they are there thanks to the technology carried from diesel engines

The gasoline's injector is operating at much lower pressure than its diesel counterpart.

The gasoline engine require sparkplugs to ignite, while diesel engine does not this is caused by the compression ratio of the diesel engine is far greater than gasoline engine. ( 20:1 versus 9:1 )

This is the cause of why diesel engine is extremely rough & unrefined, yet producing much greater torque.



In a nutshell :
Diesel -> slow revving, rough sound, vibrates badly, produces more torque than HP, efficient, extremely robust, and very capable of continous running ( a week at a time )

gasoline -> high revving, smooth sound & vibration, produces more HP than torque, tractable , light & easy to build. less efficient.

This is a great car, but it's just too far..
The production model cost a lot of greens.. It's damn expensive..
It does look like the one in i.Robot, but a little different though...
Btw, nice Supra.. The style is great..

Oh well, actually, compared with this, the C6 Corvette ZO6 model can be well enough to challenge the Le Mans, it is far greater and cheaper actually since it is potentially and always limited.

The le mans is going to production btw, it would be the lesser Mucielargo LP640, it would share same engine, tranny and 4wd, the difference would be chassis & accomodation
since the le mans would probably be a grand tourer


the supras are great car in respect of the technical achievement, but various comments / rumor has it, it rides poorly and its fit and finish are far from toyota's standard. poor sales and lack of public interests kills it
