Artbook reviews
Calendar Film is excellent. It has about 90 pages of color illustrations. There are a few pages of stacked images, but most of the images have a page all to themselves. I recommend it :D
Oh yeah, so DHL ended up delivering this package and they left it on the balcony/patio of my apartment :D I was very happy about that. I also recommend a Jewel Box by kaori minakami and pieces of the world by kaya kuramoto. Those 2 are also excellent buys.

Oh DHL... It's like a luck of the draw who you get shipping from with Amazon JP. Since moving back to the states, I always get FedEX, but in China it was always DHL. But you get DHL... \o/
I always thought the Pieces of the World and Jewel Box were the same artist... proving I should pay more attention to things. I should be getting my Amazon stuff Monday or Tuesday, so I'm looking forward to seeing Calendar Film :D

In my experience, DHL is the heavier shipment, Fedex is the lighter shipment. If I only get a couple of things, it's usually FedEx, but if it's a few magazines and a couple of artbooks, it always ends up being DHL :D
Scanning Calendar Film atm~ Think I'll go ahead an submit it all under the artist's name instead.

I had an order in August with 13 books and magazines, and it still came FedEX. Maybe it wasn't heavy enough... which means, WHAT DID YOU DO?! XD Oh, and some of the Calendar Film stuff is series: Mahou Tsukai Ni Taisetsu na Koto Natsu no Sora and Someday's Dreamers. I'll move the ones that are, but just so you know. Even though the artist kinda makes girls who look similar, the Someday's Dreamers lead girl always has a triple hair-squiggle thing going on.
Lol. At first I was like... triple hair squiggle? Then I realized what you were referring to. Apparently, there's 1)Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto (someday's dreamers), 2)Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto - Natsu no Sora (spin off), and 3)Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Taiyou to Kaze no Sakamichi (side story). So I guess they're all connected. They certainly all start out with the same part of the title, so I had trouble getting which image came from which story from the index XD;; That's why I decided to do the easy thing - dump them all under the artist's name :3
Thanks for moving them, nat :D
This shipment apparently was estimated to be 20 lbs. I don't think it's that heavy though. My printer/scanner came a few days ago, and it was 30 lbs., but a heck a lot heavier. I like how DHL leaves the package for me < 3

Oh Grats on the new scanner! And aww the Chocola Selection artwork is so cute! I admit I do like the style of Koge Dombo, I just don't really care for most of the series so I've never thought to buy one of the artbooks. Seeing your scans makes me tempted to get the book though. >_>
Yeah, I completely agree about how surprisingly nice Chocola Selection is (judging from your scans). I always thought those books were just Di Gi Charat, but there are other series :o
Did you end up going with Canon for your scanner?

I ended up getting the canon mx850, which is a all-in-one since I needed a new photo printer too. It is so ginormous O_o I think it took me half an hour to lug the thing to my room, manipulate it out of the box, and set everything up. Most of the time being taken up by me trying to get the thing out of the box. It turned out it's more like 40 lbs... which is almost half my weight, lol. Since then, I've been scanning everything quickly at 600dpi < 3 Love the speed upgrade. I can churn out scans much faster now.
Yeah, di gi charat takes about half the book~
Can I get a category for Kaya Muramoto? I think that's how you spell it...

Oh yeah, if anyone wants 600dpi originals, hollar~ XD
Kaya Kuramoto added. It'll take a few minutes after this post to show up. And wow, you are really petite! You should've recruited the husband for that task XD
Haha, I definitely would've put the husband to work if he was around. I just couldn't wait, lol. I picked up the box (well, barely off the ground), and pushed it to my room. I couldn't figure out how to get it out of the box though; it was so heavy. I'm glad I didn't break anything (whether it be my back or the canon or surrounding stuff) in the process
Thanks nat < 3 Haha, I guess I didn't get the name right :p I think Pieces of the World is a good buy :D I like the Chocola selection parts that aren't di gi charat. I mean, di gi charat is cute, but the huge eyes bug me after a few pages...

Hehe. I just thought it was a typo since you spelled the name right in the top post on this page ( I had googled her stuff shortly after) as that was the first I'd heard of her!
There are some really gorgeous illustrations in Pieces of the World, but so many of them are spreads, and I'm feeling lazy :x The spine is giving me a hard time too XD;; All in all, I recommend it~ with lots of love XD
For the people who love background illustrations, Studio Kusanagi's books are definetely a must purchase (they released their fourth book about a month ago, but this one mostly contains black and white illustrations, while the other ones have painted artworks). Makoto Shinkai's book of paintings is an other must as well.
As for character illustrators, my latest purchase was Shunya Yamashita's Wild Flower, and considering that I really liked it (I might even end up using a scan or two for walling purposes) I definetely recommend it.

Ok seeing as I have time before I move, I figured I would give my impressions on some of my art books before I put them in boxes ... at least the ones I haven't yet, which there are only four left ...
First off is G's Deluxe Festival which features Little Busters - EX. Full color through out, a lot of images can be scanned and with a bit of cleaning can be used for what ever purpose you may like. There are full page images, 9 to be exact, and are high quality. This book (more like a magazine in size) came with a puzzle, a deck of playing cards and a mouse pad featuring (Im not sure if this is her name or the artist name printed on the mouse pad) Kudryavka Noumi. Of course, her boobs were filled with stuffing to make them stand out. I laughed hard at that, it looked so funny. There is lots of nudity, mainly because I think the book is based on the game so I guess that's normal. (82 pages in total - also sexually explicit)
Next is ... Groundwork Of Stand Alone Complex. 10 pages of color images with line drawings and the rest of the book is groundwork drawings of the animation. Right up my alley, I enjoy those kind of books so I get 210pgs or so of insight on how the animation was made. Very nice book in my opinion. (224 pages in total)
Up next is ... Gurren Lagann NIA Portraits. Very nice art book. Half the book is made up of full page images and the other half is about Nia and her role in the anime. There's photo albums, costume and accessory for her, facial expressions, guest comments and a Nia interview. There's also figure showcase and a small package of pictures in a pouch a the back of the book like the Yoko Portraits art book. Every bit as good as the Yoko art book. (72 pages in total)
Last but not least ... Miyama-Zero Art Works Custom Made Girls. Full color all the way through the 130 pages except for the last few pages which are, I assume, descriptions of the images inside. There's a variety of images from catgirls to loli to cross dressing guys. Nudity, panty shots, Kimonos to school uniforms and others. There is a variety of subject matter to please most people and the art work is very well done. (130 pages in total - also sexually explicit)
These are all recent purchases and I'm sure there are an abundance of scans available of these books on the net already.
