Yina has kindly given us a few character sketches:

We are still in need of someone with animation experience, 2D or 3D, so if you know someone who may be interested, please ask them if they would like to help.

Those pictures are great.
if our animation going to be a serious one like makoto shinkai..
then the music must be serioous to eh?

Wow those are AWESOME sketches!! *speechless*
Xyrick, not necessarily serious music, can be anything depends on the story :)
Or, if you can come up with some sample clips then maybe those can help with the story.
Just a thought :)

Actually I disagree, The music brought to you by Yamazaki Masayoshi in (5cm per second) really really has a deep impact throughout the anime I think. Just the subtle music that plays in correct parts and the times of sheer silence are chosen very well. Im not sure if Yamazaki Masayoshi did all of the music, but i know he did a few. Music in this type of anime can be kinda important. EXCEPT since ours is so small i guess it wont matter tooo much. I mean She and he cat has no music lolz.
Great job on those fabulous sketches Yina! They really really are amazing! I like the 1st one, but I like the hair of the 'shingami' girl =D We need to select a style to stick with. I personally love the style used in "loveless"(but hate the story) and the style in Shakugan no Shana. I think we can all agree shinkai has pretty...Minimalistic? Characters.

HOW THE HECK ARE WE GOING TO DO VOICE ACTING!?!?!?

Voice acting (if needed) may be a something to think about..
Does anyone here have the equipment to record themselves?
Once we get some characters decided, those that are willing to lend their voice can read a few lines and we will vote.
Simple character designs are easier to animate, and allow for faster producton and/or framerate.
I would like to see characters more detailed than Shinkai's, but not so complex as to complicate the animation process.

Do we want Japanese or English voice actors? Male or female or both?
I can start searching around for recruits :3
cibo, is there anything that you can donate as prize incentives?

Yina's sketches for sure, but I'm concerned we may be getting ahead of ourselves. (Same for making backgrounds.) I know everyone's excited, but shouldn't we at least have a rough idea of where the story is going before doing all these? Otherwise we'd have to write a story around what characters and backgrounds we have, which would be rather harder.
I am presently obsessing over that song, yeah. But seriously, I don't think we need anything quite as spectacular as that. Like [ Other Worlds] we can choose some suitable classical music, fits the mood right, and use that. (No copyright problems yay.) Can't just use someone's copyrighted recordings, though, so we'd have to do it ourselves.
Xyrick, what's the level of your expertise with music? Do you plan to record yourself performing, or do you do midi, or? I used to play with midi a bit, so I might be able to help, depending on what comes up.
For that matter, what about expertise in other areas? Drawing characters and painting up backdrops are obviously not going to be a problem ;b but what about animation? I'll be the first to admit I know practically nuts there! Some idea of what our combined skillset will allow us to gauge what's achievable, to set clear objectives.
Voice? Upping the ante - Japanese dialogue? =Þ j/k. Imho let's keep it minimal, if possible.

For voice:
I suppose it depends on who we have available and what the group would like.
Might be nice to have authentic Japanese audio, no? We'd have to add subtitles, lol..
I would say we need male and female voice actors, as we will probably have work for both.
As hamster said, we need to get an idea of the story before moving too far..
(I'll be posting a few ideas shortly)
I have experience in most areas, and plan to help out anywhere we are lacking..

Hmm i was thinking as far as animation goes, we could kinda cheat like Shinkai did with "She and her Cat" If you notice there is hardly any animation in there at all. Mostly still pictures that are paned in a certian way in certian angles. I think since we are all ametures and we are lacking main 2D animator this would be a good technique to look at. Either way, The story is by far the most important thing we need to get taken care of first.

I couldn't agree more, was actually thinking the same thing. Start simple and later we can get more ambitious. Anyhow, if we choose to simplify and do this sort of minimal animation as you put it, then correspondingly the story can't be too complicated either...
Why don't we use English? I think it's much easier to ask people to do English voice acting than Japanese. O_O
I have a micro and recording progs but I have a German accent haha xDD;;

I totaly agree hamster, I was totaly thinking about a she and her cat type style for the story. Maybe not exactly like that, but you get what I mean. the sneaky angles, the dialoug, the sound effects(stand out due to quiteness of scenes). etc. I really would love to focus on a simple story, with elaborate scenes.
English language would be the best, since we don't seem to have any fluent Japanese speakers. It would be adding unnecessary complications. And, we should try to use our members before recruiting outside voice actors..
I think we will need to have a certain amount of dialogue to keep it interesting. ('She and Her Cat' has nearly continuous dialogue, only interrupted by distinct sound effects and that traditional flashing of text)
Yina- Adding a German accent to a character may give some extra background that we would not have to show directly to the viewer. Although, if our character is Japan-born and raised... maybe not ;)
In a comedy, we could add Japanese words here and there, that any otaku would recognize. 'Baka!'
Sound is a high priority for the final production, and should not be much of a problem.
I've worked the sound department before.

Hmm I was thinking that European style would be intresting, most people have seen american cities etc. So I think that showing a European based scenery would atteract more attention. Also this would open up more opportunities for diffrent variations of music(ie. violin, classical, piano etc.) Duno... Just a thought.
Sorry for the late reply.

by the way
i also have created a love song..
