Background ideas
Hey Monchi, I was thinking that instead of running around in a generic idea of design. Why dont we make categories and etc. like
~Indoor
- Selphinas EVA
-futuristic
-metallic
- mainly grey
ETC. Things like this
EDIT: I have looked at this site for over a year now and its the best for high quality science fiction/realistic space photos. GREAT for ideas. www.solarvoyager.com
Also, i had a question. Would I be creating rediculously long images like this that are abe to be panned across for animation? Would Landscape or Portrait be better. Etc. I think me and Monchi need to figure that kind of stuff out eventually. Maybe not right now, it may be to early in the stages but i am just putting it out there as a factor.
(Note: This is not a scene from the animation, but a slightly detailed doodle I did)

Hey Monchi! that is totally awesome! XD! It really does have anice feel put into it. I will try to get my style similar to yours once we get painting. Very nice for getting an initial feeling of how the scenes will probly be like. Also, I think that once we start production You and me need to share styles and use the same brush presets. This is to avoid any diffrence in shots and etc. which would quite frankly be disasterous haha!

Wow, that looks really great, monchi. The earth looks almost real although I think the stars are too blurry.
Thanks, glad you guys like it!
slaka, I have absolutely NO idea how the lead and support painters are meant to work together - perhaps cibo can comment?
I personally don't think it's reasonable to expect the uniformity that you talked about, simply because my style is still evolving with me learning new things as I go along, and same goes with you.
I can think of some ways where differences in painting styles may not be as noticeable:
- split on the interior and exterior/scenic level
- split on the underlay/tonal and detailing process
- split on specific objects/scenes e.g. the skies, planets, ship, props, flashbacks, etc
Noo idea ..
I don't remember if I used my own custom brushes or the default ones in photoshop, but I'll keep it in mind in the future.

Overall uniformity is not as important as uniformity within a scene. It is okay if the flashbacks look totally different than the rest. It is most important to keep the character design consistent and recognizable.
If, in the same scene, the camera angle changes and it suddenly looks like a completely different anime, then we could have a problem..
Supermonchi's ideas on how to split sound good. I will try to find more information on this.
Meanwhile, painters, please discuss with each other your techniques and routine.
Perhaps if you work around the same routine, things may turn out closer.

Hmm .. I'm still trying to find a workflow for myself actually, atm it's still kinda sporadic..
The way I imagine this to work is that we will take the storyboard and work off that to create the backgrounds. And the storyboard has to be somewhat in a 'stable' version because e.g. changes to camera perspective may require redoing the backgrounds again, which is costly in both time and effort. The storyboard is also used to determine the size of background artworks i.e. panning camera or a still shot, etc.
Anyways, once the storyboard is done, I'd imagine we'll mock up some sketches for the background ideas on pencil and paper, maybe with splashes of base colours and lighting. Once approved by the director, then we'll work on the detailing for the finished artwork.
That's the way I see it anyways.

Reportin in with some quick starfields I created.
Basic Starfield

Starfield added stars

My Next ones will be a GIANT star field like 4000x4000px. So that once I have that created I can just kinda change things around adding and removing diffrent elements, it would be an efficent way of doing each scenes stars.

What about the orbit painting practice I did a while ago - is that usable?
I can extend it to be more squarer if necessary.
And the ship can be easily removed.

Okay, I can cover most of the "In Space" scenes. If supermonchi is still part of the project I think that he can do the "on Earth" type of stuff better than I can. and as for Character, Is Yina able to draw out the frame animations? If so, Digitally or On paper? Etc. Then coloring comes down to an issue. Hmmm >.< Characters are not my cup of tea normally.

Created a sunrise test using multiple layers and masks.
The final version will probably use this method.

Hey, I did this really fast in Sketchup. Its a basic model of a house we could use for selphina. I developed it off of an image provided by Cibo. The reason I did this was so that for the scenes for inside the house we can move around and get camera angles and etc. needed before hand then take a snapshot bring it into photoshop and paint in detail making it look better + textures etc.

I might start with a space ship design so we dont have a few pic. drawn out of some funky ships. Anyone have any prefrence of what type? (X-wing, NASA, Circle, "The Blowfish" etc.)

I just wanted to inform you guys that Work has been in progress lately. I am currently attempting to get Finalized BG images consisting of cuts 1-5 with certian scenes only. If a scene is primarily Foreground I am skipping it, like 1.2 (or 1.3) with the ship. As a side note, i kept the animation storyboard labels that I did the same as Cibos Storyboard labels. It would be nice if someone could do the forground items, like characters and ships and what not, and if so please PM me because then I can talk to the person about the way i set up certian Vanishing points, perspectives and etc. without having them guess. In addition, I can also do these elements in the foreground but would rather not since I am already focusing on the backgrounds and Making them a good quality and geometrical which DOES take quite some time. Ill try to have about 3-5 Finalized Scenes by next week.
