In a future world there are new ways of committing crimes. No longer is a person connected to his body. Cybernetic implants, cybernetic brains and even full cyborg transformation offer new ways of living. Accessing the internet can be done anywhere allowing new ways of criminal acts. Hacking/destroying other persons data/hijacking other persons/manipulation it is all possible.

As a countermeasure the government has created “Public Security Section 9” an elite counter-cyberterrorism organization. There goal is to prevent and stop cyber-crimes with any means necessary. There specialties vary from hacking and retrieving information to planting viruses and stopping information from leaking out to stopping a criminal cyborg that has taken several humans into hostage. Not many people know that Section 9 exists since there acts are top secret and highly classified.

"Major" Motoko Kusanagi

Head member of section 9: She is an expert on criminal activity, intelligence gathering and demolitions. Batou and Togusa are under her command and she receives orders from Chief Aramaki. Except for her brain she is fully cybernetic and enhanced with the best body parts. Her age appears to be around 20 but her brain-age is unknown..

Batou
Before joining section 9, Batou was in the army and had a history as mercenary and special forces. His eyes have been replaced by digital enhanced eyes. Batou has a strong connection with the Tachikoma's.

Togusa
He is one of the few section 9 members that has not chosen to have physical enhancements. He is in his late 20's and is married and has a daughter. Togusa was before joining Section 9 a police officer.

Ishikawa
The oldest member under Motoko's command, he is specialized in hacking and information gathering. He is not often active in the field and is more the outsider that takes actions through the net or other digital paths.

Aramaki Daisuke
The chief of Section 9, gives out orders to all members and is responsible for all actions that Section 9 takes. He is the oldest person in Section 9 and makes up for his physical condition with mental knowledge.
