Your thoughts...

I'm sure there are a lot of theories and speculation about The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. For examples...
Is Kyon really the one with the powers? Or is it they both do?
Is their reality actually just one in line of many others?
Was the world actually created 3 years prior or did it exist and Haruhi just came to be?
...and many more. Feel free to discuss some of these questions, your thoughts about them, and your welcome to talk about any that you have come up with.

Yeah...the only thing I've really ever wondered is the reasons haruhi had behind choosing kyon...but I guess if he had the power as well that might be one explanation...
anyone else have any ideas on it?

It's possible that it's because he's like her opposite, hence opposites attract. They both have relatively the same interests (aliens, time travelers, espers, etc...) yet Haruhi is far more open about searching for them despite her common sense telling her otherwise. Kyon was the same, however, already had accepted that they don't exist and thus stopped 'searching' so to speak prior to his joining the Brigade. He's more reserved in contrast to Haruhi's hyperactivity.
There have been several references to Adam and Eve in the series. In the biblical story, Adam had become lonely in the Garden of Eden so thus God cast asleep Adam and removed a rib to create Eve. From the perspective of the espers, Haruhi is believed to be God or rather a goddess and created the world. The roles are reversed here: Adam became of Eve
Their personalities compliment each other.
The coincidence of the event 3 years also opens up a floor of discussion. For the most part I lean towards the belief that the world was created 3 years ago yet that it isn't just one of many before it. I'll try to explain why later. I need food.

That's an interesting concept, I can see some of the points, kyon kinda represented the rational side of haruhi.
never really hear the biblical allusion, but now that you've mentioned it, it's a very intriguing one, did the creator put it that way purposefully, or did it just happen out of writing the story? it's very intriguing.

A specific detail about one episode has left me quite perplexed, and I was wondering if anyone caught onto it as well.
At the end of the episode entitled "Remote Island Syndrom (Part 2)," Koizumi and Kyon are conversing on the boat going home. During the conversation, Koizumi starts to stare at this mole-like spot on Kyon's neck for no apparent reason. Does this mean anything at all or is it just some random nonsense the animators put in just for fun?

It's because Koizumi wants the hot man-love from kyon...
I'm looking for a logical answer

Itsuki spaced out.
It's common courtesy to make eye contact when conversing. In this case though, Kyon was staring away. Instead of looking away Itsuki maintained a focal point.
Very strange.
It would have been more "proper" if he was talking to Mikuru or Kyon was talking to Haruhi and they were staring at the girls'...er...
... which I'm sure the animators and producers initially thought of doing.

I liked the hot man love explanation more than the eye contact one.
