This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

I'm not a programmer but i enjoy mounting my computer part by part and changing parts in it.
I'm also an adept of overclocking; but not extreme, only within certain limits.
If you want to know something else just ask me, don't be shy ;-)

Hi everyone,

Well what to say...

Computers are one of my hobbies, I've been messing around with computers since I was about 6 years old. I'm currently studying Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at a University.

As for overclocking, it's not something I tend to do (I'm far more concerned with the amount of noise my computers make), though amusingly I have overclocked two PDA's.

Well here's my computers spec
------------------------------------
Processors:
- 2 x Dual Core Intel Xeon 5150, 2.66GHz (Woodcrest)

RAM:
- 2GB (4 x 512MB DDR2 FB-DIMM)

Graphic Card:
- ATi X1900XT (underclocked)

Hard Drives:
- 1 x WD Raptor 150GB (OS's)
- 2 x WD SE16 500GB (storage)
- 1 x WD 250GB (used as scratch and storage)
- 1 x LaCie 160GB connected via Firewire 800 (backup)

Optical Drives:
- Nec DVD-RW
- Sony DVD-RW

TV-Tuner:
- Elgato EyeTV Hybrid

Screens:
- 20in Apple Cinema Display
- 17in Sony CRT

Speakers:
- Logitech Z-5500

Mouse:
- Wacom Graphire Bluetooth (tablet, prefer it to a mouse)
- Logitech MX310
- Bluetooth Mighty Mouse

OS's:
- Mac OS X 10.4.8
- Windows XP Professional
- Windows 98se (Virtualized environment)
- Linux Fedora Core 5 (Virtualized environment)
- Linux Ubuntu (Virtualized environment)

Oh and yes it is a Mac.

Hello everyone!

This is The Firestorm. Call me 'Fire' or 'Firestorm', without that 'II'^_^ Please, please don't use the 'II'^_^
I am a totally total Anime fan(Who isn't?!). I love anime! And then i am a gamer. I want to become a pro-gamer one day but now i am having some second thoughts........
I have always been awed by the power and capability of the technology in today's world of gaming and computers. It's just amazing but hard to keep up with at the same time!! They build Graphic Cards faster than the speed of light nowadays!! It's like if i order a 8800 now then by the time it is installed in my com, the 9900 will be released!! With more power and more memory!!

But that is also good actually. More progress means more potential for games. Better cards, better games. And i like that.

Besides anime and games. I also love cars, supercars to be more precise. Supercars come first for me and then come the streetcars, which are also very, very good. Especially the Evo IX (9) I love her!! ;)
And i like aircrafts, mainly the ones seen in the defence forces. Not the commercial ones.
Then i like.......well i like a lot of stuff! hehe!!

But sadly, where i am living, the latest in technology is not available easily. Not just in computers, in most of the things. You might not believe this but....The XBox 360 was released over here just this month!! (January 2007!) Most people here haven't even heard about the Wii and/or the PS3!!
Even the games, they are released here after almost 1 or 1 and a half months of the original release dates for the U.S, U.K. and or Japan.!! Funny and sad at the same time.

I am going to place the config of my PC here but please don't laugh. I could not do more than this....(Atleast for now!!)

Here i go embarrasing myself.........

External Hardware:
Cabinet/Tower/Case: A simple, lame aluminium case by Frontech. Named 'Xilo'. Only has a side extra supercooling vent. T_T
Monitor: A Plug and Play monitor by LG Technologies. Model name: 700E. Maximum Display resolution supported: 1280x1024 at 60 Hz Refresh rate T_T T_T T_T
Keyboard: Logitech keyboard. Nothing fancy. Just 104 keys. Standard types. T_T
Mouse: Another standard optical mouse by Logitech.T_T
Speakers: 4.1 speaker system by Creative. Model name: Inspire 4400. That is perhaps the only good thing!

Internal Hardaware:
Motherboard: Intel D915GAV motherboard. Has LGA775 socket. No SCSI support. One PCI Expressx16 slot. 4xPCI slots. 4 DDR 400 System Memory slots.
Processor/CPU: Intel P4 with HT at 3.0 GHz (3000 Mhz) T_T. No overclocking whatsoever.
Graphics Card: Integrated PCI-E 915G graphics. 128 MB GDDR RAM.
External GC: Nvidia PCI-Expressx16 7900 GT with 512 MB GDDR3 memory. ^_^ By BIG. Not custom overclocked yet. Factory shipped settings only, at 600 MHz. But that is perhaps the only good internal hardware i got*sigh*
Sound Card/Codec: Integrated ALC860 Audio Codec on Realtek HD Audio sound drivers/device/card. -_-
HDD: One 80 GB SATA HDD by Samsung. T_T
CD/DVD drives: One CD-R/RW/DVD-R combo drive at 52x. By LG. T_T
Memory: 1024 MB DDR RAM at 400 Mhz by Hynix T_T
Power Supply: Frontech 350W PS. T_T
Peripherals/Add-ons: One Pinnacle PCTV T.V. Tuner Card. Four extra fans for added ventilation and cooling. But that is all.

Operating System:
Windows XP Media Centre Edition.

....................................

Oh well, that is everything that is there. *sigh* Nothing fancy or great. But it is so difficult to get good stuff here!
But i strive to have the best gaming PC there is!! The most powerful and the very best! And i know i will get it someday! MWAHAHA!! ;D

....................................

Warm regards,
The Firestorm

Hi,

Welcome to the group @ you 3 : Orchid, DeepDragoon & Firestorm.

To Orchid : Amazing video card; have you tried it on a game. Is really so asthonishing ?
Raptors rocks. I always choose amd but with core2duo i'm starting to change my mind, i heard the 6600 is very good & i can see that it's easily overclockable too.

To DeepDragoon : Did you underclocked the video card for the purpose of reducing noise and/or temperature ?
Why do you need so much sorts of os ?

To Firestorm : Don't worry, look at my computer. It's still an nforce 2. The bad is that i got vista upgrade for free since i recently bought my laptop and i can't even install vista on my home pc since vista is only supported starting nforce 3 ...

See you all.

Well the card came underclocked, supposedly to reduce heat/noise, though I intend to replace the stock cooler with something better sometime as it's rather noisy. I rarely play games that are graphically demanding, though I have been playing F.E.A.R and Oblivion a bit recently, and both run without any problems so I see no reason to change the speed of the card. Amusingly the hottest part of the system is usually the RAM modules.

As for the OS's well...
Mac OS X: Is my primary OS
Windows XP: I use for playing a couple of games ocasionally
Windows XP/98se (virtualised): I use for running a couple of pieces of Windows only software and for testing.
Linux (virtualised): I have for testing and messing around with things.

Really when it comes down to it I spend most of my time in Mac OS X and a little time in XP playing games. Ocasionally using the other OS's virtualised when I need to (cross platform testing of programs, websites etc...). I like having the choice of different OS's. I also like running in a virtualised environment as you don't need to worry about messing anything up.

I am fluxbox (yes, named after the window manager - a native american ritual where you are named after the first thing your father sees - he was a Unix guru... j/k). I'm into... a lot of things. I play games, play the bass guitar, watch anime, study Polish among other things. I also spend a lot of time cleaning my beloved Acura RSX (with the crappy 2nd gear syncro problem) all the time because my woman demanded I get a black car.

If you added up the total time I spent on computers in high school it would add up to about 4 hours. I typed all my reports on a 1954 model Royal Typewriter (yeah, non electric). At my job I do various computer stuff, one of which is assembling computers for a high dust / high heat environment. I've become quite versed at under clocking, and do so with just about every PC I build. As for PCs, I have a few:

SPOILER (click to view)

SPOILER (click to view)

SPOILER (click to view)

My main PC has a full black full ATX tower made by Lian Li - that unfortunately mounts the main board upside down. It has two 500Gb Segate hard drives in a mirror off of a 3ware 800x Raid card. 1Gb RAM. Some sort of MSI main board with SLI. A Geforce 6600 (I think) with a heatsink that can be rotated up, although I modified it to rotate upside down. Two Samsung 19 LCDs. 300W Silverstone fanless PSU. Process or is Athlon64x2 4200. No speakers, goes into an old Sony amp I had laying around and usually to my headphones. Can by daisy chained into my regular stereo for external sound - I have bad power in my apartment so this is necessary. It runs FreeBSD 6.2 / Gentoo Linux. I also have another junk hard drive with Windows 2000 I plug into it every now and then if I need to.

The best feature of my computer is the Unicomp Buckling Spring keyboard.

Hi fluxbox,

Welcome to the group.
I think i see which vga you're talking it's the one with passive cooling.
It's cool you've got an Acura RSX; it was my favourite car on nfs (i know it's only a game). I wonder if the real one has such a good behaviour and amazing acceleration than in the game. Anyway, i think it's a good car.

See you.

I also have a Mac Mini. I opened it up myself and replaced the RAM and hard drive. I was planning on using it to watch movies on my TV, but due to the fact that my TV is extremely old this turned out to not work very well, and became a pain in the ass. I've run NetBSD, FreeBSD, and Gentoo Linux on the machine just to see if I could. It runs MacOSX again now. I'll get back to this computer when I get a new TV... someday

I have a 1.42GHz G4 Mac Mini, which is usually attached to an old CRT TV (15in I think) via an DVI to S-Video to Scart adaptor, in my flats communal area. It gets used for playing DVD's, streaming video's and music via iTunes, playing old emulated games and occasionally browsing the web. So far it's worked out rather well though it can be difficult to read text on the screen without enlarging it. Though currently it's residing on my DVD rack and is being used for downloading stuff and for sharing it's iTunes library.

Deep dragon -> Yeah, that's mostly what I was trying to do. However during boot the mini attempts to set the screen resolution. The mini can't seem to figure it out so it sets NO resolution. VNC then doesn't work. I couldn't find a way to force the resolution so that's where I got stuck. Now I can go through this drill of hooking up the mini to a monitor then leave it on for the rest of eternity, but I'd rather have it off to save electricity and wear. I also wrote a web interface for all my movies so I could pick them using a web browser, but had a hard time getting mplayer to actually fork. So after that I just moved on to other stuff and haven't gotten back to it. My mom says she wants a computer some day so she might end up with it anyway... good excuse to get one of the faster Intel Mini's if I can afford it I suppose.

Saka4Rob10 -> Um I can't really attest to the good behavior since putting a RSX Type S in my hands is like putting a GTO Judge in the hands of an old lady: a total waste. Orchid has an Aspec RSX though, and I'm sure he could better tell you about it as I'm sure he's a terror behind the wheel =P Despite the fact that the suspension is supposed to be a step backwards, the RSX handles much better than my Integra ever did. But the 2005 Type S is hell of a lot more aggressive than a regular 94 Integra for that matter.

Saka4Robo: Yeah, the card is a monster, though it's really more than I need, to be honest. I was basically like "Oh, DirectX 10, why the heck not?" It churns out Oblivion at 1920x1200 very nicely though.

fluxbox: That sucks that you have the synchro problem; did that petition ever get anywhere? I signed it, but never really followed it as I didn't have the problem... anyway, I'm told GM Synchromesh transmission fluid helps stave it off a bit, but it seems like more of a band-aid fix to me than anything. However, I do know of a product that I'd be interested to see if it would fix the problem, if you're up to hearing about it.
