- The IDE standard will disappear in just a few years. Basically all HDDs have a Serial ATA (II) connection nowadays and more and more S-ATA DVD drives are released. Motive is ofcourse the higher speeds of S-ATA and smaller cables improving the airflow.
Edit (01-23)
-Pricedrop for many AMD X2 processors: Most 3800+ to 5200+ AMD Dual core processors are lowered 10 to 20 dollars in price since yesterday.
-Edit (01-25) There were rumours about Plextor stopping their DVD production due to competition. Today, Plextor announced to still continue with their production.
-Intel is going to make high-end graphic cards. After Intel's succes with the on-board graphic chips as we know from notebooks, it is said Intel is developing high-end (PCI-E) videocards and also works on a more integrated system with the processor, like the Fusion-project of AMD.
-802.11 is becoming the new standard for wireless networking. Especially now Intel has produced their new 4965AGN adapter, it'll be easier for notebook producers to include this new system in their future laptops.

Put that thing in SLi and you just lost a load of money and you're stuck with a giant overkill... Sick.

This OEM version of ATI's new R600 is 31.4cm! Pretty sick. Then again it holds a giant cooler to keep the DX10 compatible GPU and the 1GB of GDRR4 at a nice temperature. Prices and more specs are still unknown.

Very interesting indeed, especially the price for that 8900GS, which is about the same as a 8600 Ultra (as speculated). It seems nVidia is producing a really wide range of products in order to maintain their advantage on ATI. Which is, in my opinion as nVidia fanboy, good news.
VR-ZoneNVIDIA is set to launch mainstream 8600GTS (G84-400) and 8600GT (G84-300) as well as 8500GT (G86-300) on 17th of April. GeForce 8600GTS and 8600GT will have 256MB GDDR3 memories onboard and sports 128-bit memory interface but no HDMI yet. GeForce 8600GTS is meant to replace 7950GT and 7900GS while 8600GT to replace 7600GT and 8500GT to replace 7600GS.
No 8600 Ultra, but the 8600GTS does kind of speculates an upcoming 8600GTX! Anyway, 17th of April is the releasedate of the new nVidia vidcards, so benchmarks will come soon!

Yes, i heard that too but i think i'll go for 8600 since 8500 is a limited gpu and it's not worth at all :p
To keep this topic alive, here is some news again:
-High end videocards take a lot of power, so nowadays you'll have to plug in the extra PCI-E power cable(s) from your PSU. Though, with the coming of PCI-E 1.1 and 2.0, they try to raise the PCI power given by the motherboard. The aim is to provide 300W through the PCI-E bus, which means you won't need attach those cables anymore.
-Auzentech is the first to create a third party X-Fi soundcard. The Prelude 7.1 is based on the famous soundchip of Creative and is therefore an interesting product to keep an eye on.
-Uncle Bill's company came up with something new: Microsoft Surfacing. You can watch an introduction movie here: Right click and save as

Since USB datasticks are getting cheaper and cheaper, you see more and more companies trying to make their stick more attractive. Corsair came with waterproof ones, Sandisk with a Ducati one, etc. Though, the Japanese go a little further, as you can see in this vid

A new USB.A lot of them are coming now a days. Some people call them keychains or USB keys, and others just call them USB drives. There is a contingent of people that calls them thumb drives; then there's whoever made this thing, which takes the thumb drive idea literally.
Give your data the thumb (sorry, we couldn't find one that looks like a finger) and carry it around with you in a manner that should, by all rights, cause people to fear you. I certainly would wonder about someone who sticks a thumb into a USB port, and I'd be really uncomfortable sitting in the next cubicle. That's why I stay in my basement. No one here to hurt me except the rats.
