Brand New 8800GT

I've just seen a review about 8800GT. It's a brand new nVidia 8 series video card. It's still not launched yet, but a benchmark from nVidia's released. Here's the comparasion chart of 8800GT:

As you can see, 8800GT is outperformed 2900XT quite far. And it's price is about $200-$280, sure it's quite far cheaper than 2900XT. Beside, it's size is quite small, it only take one slot of PCI slots. ^^ Here's the image of 8800GT:

So, how do you think about it? Will nVidia start to show its victory against ATi? ^^

I think it will be a good vga and they even had to increase the number of stream processors (96 -> 112) for 8800 GTS in order to avoid it being in the shadow of this one :p
I think that 8800 series are very good but 8600 and under series are really too limited ...
Their middle range is only the minimum they need ... it's a pity.
Just a remark : Bench are not really trustable since they depend on various things like drivers, game, ... -> so you always should wait the launch to see the vga in actual work ;-)

It looks like this will be an underclocked version of the 8900GTS, which should hold Nvidia over until they're ready to launch the NV92 (GeForce 9). Rumor has it that the ATI 2950 is pretty beastly, which is probably why Nvidia needed a revision of the 8800 to counter it. Either way, it looks like it's going to be a phenomenal value for the folks who have been waiting for the 8800's to drop in price. I may buy my dad one for Christmas...
Anyway, I've actually got a grand put aside for the 9800GTX; I plan on getting one the day they become available. :P

The 8800GT uses the G92 chipset, which is evolved from the G80 (the one used in the older 8800 series). As you can see in the benchmarks the G92 has an excellent performance, while the costs are relatively low. It is therefore a very, very interesting card. Especially when you want to go for SLI.
The problem though, is that the 8800GT doesn't support DX10.1. This might become a disadvantage in the future. It's also still 'backwards compatible' with PCI-e 1.1, which imo means it isn't optimized for PCI-e 2.0 yet. So it's a bit of a gamble whether or not this card can survive long enough. I'm personally not going to take the gamble, even though the 8800GT looks like a fantastic card, but like Orchid, I'm waiting for the nVidia 9 series.

Also the reduced die shrink (65nm) will allow for some insane overclocks while producing less heat and the single slot cooling solution rocks! Looks like thats my next upgrade!

So you don't need to worry about that for now ;-)
