Commenting Strains My Hands
1 Page: [ 1 ]
Its probably not just me who's noticing this. But, a lot less people are commenting on wallpapers lately. K, yea, even I admit that I don't comment on wallpapers as much as I did before. Basically because I'm just soo lazy, and I tend not to comment on things I dont fav, except on the rare occasion where I just rly want to comment. lol
Arrghh.. but we should be commenting more on wallpapers so that wallers can get proper critiques and improve their wallpapers o__o;; No way a person can improve or become advanced at something if they never receive proper critiques xD So the more experienced wallers should take the time to comment on these members wallpapers. Though I'm noticing that most people only seem to comment on their friends wallpapers. And, because they are friends, its kinda hard to critique your friends or you'll feel bad after words xD So even on the wallpapers that do receive comments, some of them don't even receive critiques. I personally do this alot, lol! Its hard to critique friends, especially when you know they've worked so hard.
So, what do you think? :3 we need to start critiquing more O_O even though, I know for a fact that some people don't like to receive critiques. For example, you take the time to write a nice critique and even throw in some compliments, and all they concentrate on is the critique side to your comment! Then they show up on your UP and start complaining like, "I WORKED HARD ON THAT WALL! nobody appreciates my work! you dont know what your talking about! blahblahblah". @_@ arghhh.. those people are so annoying =__= yea, so I tend to avoid commenting on the walls of members who I know will react like that >_>
lol!

lol!
reizIMO SZ is for critiques; the gallery is for praise and only "touch up" comments. Plus, I usually just comment on the walls I like. And if I already like them, then what is there to critique right?
even SZ has gotten bad! xD you go into it and see retarded comments like.
Good job! Keep up the good work! xD
lol! and sometimes, for those people who do write down critiques, it seems like they dont even know what theyre talking about @_@
i dont trust SZ anymore >_>
yea but, even after people submit theres still things they can improve on so that they can edit their wall. I think we should comment on walls we might not like, so that the waller can improve @_@
reizah, that was me; sorry about that. LOL. It's true, I think after every wall I made I have gone to saku's UP and complained about nobody liking it.
*stabs*
That's a good idea about critiques, and I do notice the more senior members offering helpful comments. I always appreciate the observations that I can't see since I get caught up in the wall @_@.
I especially agree that commenting strains my hands >_>. Gotta get once of those speech to text thingies...
I especially agree that commenting strains my hands >_>. Gotta get once of those speech to text thingies...
ahaha... *angelic face* but same here. my comments and +favs go hand in hand, unless i care enough about the potential in a wallpaper to critique it. i have no motivation to comment/critique walls that do not catch my eye, unfortunately. and a look at my forum posts (99.9% in SZ) tells you that i take a very long time with critiques. xD;sakubecause I'm just soo lazy, and I tend not to comment on things I dont fav, except on the rare occasion where I just rly want to comment.
lol! a headache, n'est pas? but it's never happened to me, actually. just a random thought that's kinda out there...but maybe the length of my posts puts them in shock. >xDthey show up on your UP and start complaining
it's been rotting for quite a while. thank goodness i started walling early enough to catch the end of its "useful period". not many very well-qualified wallers drop by frequently enough to keep up the quality of criticism given in SZ...actually, a lot of times, they aren't even criticism. >__> so annoying, but i shouldn't be one to complain because although i don't make much of a difference, i've kinda stopped frequenting SZ after last summer...even SZ has gotten bad!
asajust a random thought that's kinda out there...but maybe the length of my posts puts them in shock. >xD
LOL! yea xD your comments are always sooo long! i need to learn how to critique like that. You explain things so well :3
thank goodness i started walling early enough to catch the end of its "useful period".
me to actually D: i was going through my old forum posts in SZ and i noticed that I actually got good critiques back in the day xD so different compared to now.
but i shouldn't be one to complain because although i don't make much of a difference, i've kinda stopped frequenting SZ after last summer...
i try to pop into SZ every once in a while. Like go on random SZ critiquing sprees. lol! but i admit there are some walls that i see, and im sort of.. out of words? o_O kind of like I dont know where to begin with critiques. I try to resist simply saying, "change everything". So, when I do go on those spree's i avoid those types of walls. lol
:'D i just feel like criticism really doesn't help unless the person actually fully understands what is not good, why it is not good, AND how to make it better. but ya know, to tell the truth, it has a down side too. i find that i can't help but talk about everything in detail >__< so sometimes, i intimidate myself... as in i'm afraid of spending too much time. :xsakuyour comments are always sooo long! i need to learn how to critique like that.
i know. thinking back to those good old days, i feel so fortunate. but at that time, i took it all for granted. nowadays, it's pretty much people who need help "helping" each other. there's only so far you can go in terms of improving your skills in this type of "self-help" situation.i noticed that I actually got good critiques back in the day xD so different compared to now.
lol, i know what you mean very well. i'm selective about which threads to post in. some ideas working out are just next to impossible and i don't exactly want to say that to someone who might get completely discouraged (...or pissed .__.). i think we aren't the only ones. but then that leaves just the "oh < 3 that's good!!" people to give their two cents.kind of like I dont know where to begin with critiques.
asai just feel like criticism really doesn't help unless the person actually fully understands what is not good, why it is not good, AND how to make it better.
Ah yea, thats true. Ive actually got a couple of replies from my critiques saying how they dont understand what im talking about. LOL! so i have to go back and give a detailed explanation xD so i end up spending more time doing 2 replies than just 1 big one @_@
so sometimes, i intimidate myself... as in i'm afraid of spending too much time. :x
lol! yea i guess if you make such awesome comments like that, it can be intimidating keeping it up ;3 but all of the comments ive seen by you have been awesome :3
i know. thinking back to those good old days, i feel so fortunate. but at that time, i took it all for granted.
omg thats so true o_o i rly should have taken advantage of that at the time xD but i dont think i knew how fortunate i was at the time. lol
it's pretty much people who need help "helping" each other. there's only so far you can go in terms of improving your skills in this type of "self-help" situation.
i actually think that a great majority of the people who post in SZ can do alot of self help by comparing their works with other ppls works. Like for example comparing theirs to whats in the showcase for example. If they compare it (and truly be honest with themselves) they should be able to pick out a great deal of faults and be able to fix them. But I think that theyre just being lazy. Like, for example (not going to name), theres this wall that ive seen repeatedly getting pushed back into SZ. Though the faults of the wall has been mentioned several times by different members (including myself =_=) the member doesnt listen D: I left a huge critique on their wall saying stuff like "its low quality, try vectoring it. sky looks wonky, bg needs work, etc..etc.." (of course it was worded better than this xD). But the member replies to me like. This is just the temp version and im vectoring it, something something, i worked hard on this, nobody appreciates @_@ lol! and then they posted the "vectored" version, and it was so obvious that the person had not vectored it xD

That would save a lot of time for the ones which take their time to comment in Session Zero. But I'm sure that most of the users think that their work is good enough to be submitted. They aren't honest to themselves or don't want to be. "It's so much easier to ask someone for help instead of doing something on my own" That's how some of them might think about this. (Same goes for the stupid questions about papers, wallpaper downloads and so on. If they would just read the guide such really stupid questions could be avoided.)

I can imagine which wallpaper you have in mind because I've noticed it too (and commented on it).
sakueven SZ has gotten bad! xD you go into it and see retarded comments like.
Good job! Keep up the good work! xD
lol! and sometimes, for those people who do write down critiques, it seems like they dont even know what theyre talking about @_@
Yeah, noticed that too. I think Session Zero has become "the place" to earn papers but just giving this sort of critique like you mentioned. It's hard now to become a really good critique about a wall.
Critique is the best thing to improve your work. You can't get better by only receiving comments like "I like it", "Keep it up" etc. It's hard to write something bad (bad critique if the wall really looks bad) about a wall and sometimes even harder for me because english is not my main language. But I always try to take some time to go through Session Zero and leave some comments. I'm not a top waller myself but I can say that a scan is bad extracted or of bad quality.
sakuAnd, because they are friends, its kinda hard to critique your friends or you'll feel bad after words xD
It is hard but to be true I appriciate a tough comment with critiques from a friend. I've gotten them and I would never be mad about such things. Friends are sometimes harder in their critique because they know what you can do or what you have done already. I mean if you, saku-chan, would upload a wall which really is crap (this would never happen *LOL*) I would comment on it and say that I don't like it and that you have done much better ones before. As a friend I wouldn't hesistate to tell you the truth!
asamy comments and +favs go hand in hand, unless i care enough about the potential in a wallpaper to critique it.
Same here ^_^
I don't really look at the name of the creator. I browse the walls and comment on the ones I like and add it to my favs. But normally it's all I comment about: only the ones I fav after that. It shouldn't be this way but I can't get myself to comment on walls I don't like.
voicy"It's so much easier to ask someone for help instead of doing something on my own" That's how some of them might think about this.
omg, thats so true D: though, im trying now to write a good description in my critiques, and if they reply to me asking something like. "could you explain this part a bit more" i always reply and explain. but if they come back to me like. "i just reposted my wall in SZ could you comment again?" and then i go to see the wall. and nothing I told them to do was done, i just completely ignore it xD lol its like, if your going to ask for my help thats fine, but atleast listen to what im telling you because it feels like i just waisted my life explaining it all xD
voicyI can imagine which wallpaper you have in mind because I've noticed it too (and commented on it).
oh, you to? xD lol i know asa did a good comment on it aswell *stalks* 8]
voicyI think Session Zero has become "the place" to earn papers but just giving this sort of critique like you mentioned.
and people are willing to work that hard just to earn papers D: i always say, if they want the scans so badly, they can go to another site like MT or maybe a site meant for distributing scans to get them. It requires no work and you can usually get the same thing xD and, you can get more papers by writing longer comments, instead of "wowz, i likes *-*". and i hope that those long comments consist of good critiques ^^''
voicyIt is hard but to be true I appriciate a tough comment with critiques from a friend. I've gotten them and I would never be mad about such things. Friends are sometimes harder in their critique because they know what you can do or what you have done already.
argh D: your so right! i need to learn from this xD though ill probably wont be as harsh on friends. LIke, ill say the same thing, but in a rly nice way.
insert alot of smilies to make anything sounds nice! loL! i swear it always works!
look..
*ahem*
"omg! this is hideous! it doesnt look like any effort was put into this at all. how could you submit this?"
now, *inserts smilies*
"omg! D: this is hideous! @_@ it doesnt look like any effort was put into this at all. 8] how could you submit this? x]"
lol! i think the smilies make it sound less harsh xD
so true. if everyone approached learning to wall with the same productive attitude (as in willing to suck up some pride and listen to good advice, willing to sweat and maybe bleed...LOL), then SZ would not be like this. but i don't think it's fair to blame it solely on laziness. x__x i have observed that my sensitivity to what makes a good wall and what doesn't has sharpened considerably from the time when i just began walling till now, when i have more experience. (certainly, my critique posts have gotten pickier and pickier. xD) it's just that much harder for beginners to see what needs to be improved and differentiate between viable and poor ideas. nobody can help that really; i think it's a stage in the eternal learning process. i feel so weird using the word eternal here, lolvoicyThey aren't honest to themselves or don't want to be.
oh noes, stalker! D: and i'm clueless as to which one that is. i can think of a certain wall where the user did not address many of the problems i pointed out, but i don't remember having seen angel-voice's comment on it in the forum SZ.sakui know asa did a good comment on it aswell *stalks* 8]
omg so true! >xD i think that way too, so i try to stick in smilies in my critique posts, to break up the chunks of text. :'Di think the smilies make it sound less harsh xD
I always love to comment at wallpapers..
when i think it's crap then i said it was
when i think it's awesome then i said so.
is it prohibited to critique on someone's work when the work's already accepted at the gallery?
there's some people complaining me about this.
but after all, comments are made for the development of the waller itself isn't it?
though so, still, some of the people hates me when i jump into the critiques.
though at the end of my comments i still said that it was a good job, and put so many smilies on my comments, they're still think that i'm harsh.
man, this wore me off. and i'm confused on what should i said to these kinds of people. they said that critique on the already accepted wall is..rude...
How about you guys..?

If you do a bad critiqe people hate you >_< lol.But if i think the wallpaper isnt good i usually dont comment on it.But if i do a see a little way it could be made better i certainly comment on it in a nice manner and in the end state what i dont like :)
Fave sz comment ever
this is said in every post that this member does in sz, and it drives me crazy.
this is one of the farthest from artistic point of views ever. this is the view of someone who knows little about what makes art, and they put it in every sz post they make. before they post that they say something about the wall, but unrelated to the quality of it. is it just me, or that spam?
not only is it spam, but it confuses those who are trying to make art, and if they listen to that point of view, limits their creativity.
it actually bothers me so much that i took the liberty and left a comment on the user's page explaining why the reasoning is faulty. if i see it again i will report it as spam.
bottom line, don't comment in sz if your not willing to be constructive, and put effort into it.
i've been posting less in sz now-a-days because their have been so many walls that are clearly not thought out. i blame the flood of such walls on the nonconstructive comments that people are making. if they don't see that the walls really do need work to be good, then they think, hey i can do that. i'll just pick a couple things i like and throw them together, and perhaps make it look nifty with a plethora of filters.
i also place part of the blame on the multitude of image with brushes walls. using brushes is fine, but more than some pretty brush with a decently extracted image should be used in a wall. there are very few exceptions to this that i have seen. just because the colors look pretty doesn't mean it's art. and what bothers me most, is so many of the people making these walls are not improving at all. it's the same thing over and over again. if your wall gallery looks almost the same throughout, your not really talented. you've just found a niche and exploited it for all it's worth.
i know i'm ranting now. but i just hate to see people abuse an art community like that. if your not truly here for the art, be active in the forums and leave the rest to those who know what they're doing. of course, with my current wall, i have little room to talk about contributing to the art of the community, but hopefully i'll get around to fixing that, and never making something that low of quality again.
Please Remember:
* Colors are always necessary, colorless art is nearly nothing...
* Effects makes it look impressive, it removes the simplicity of art...
* The Character in the art is the most important thing...
* The Character gives the emotion to the theme of the wallpaper...
* Please Choose Wisely...
* Please Don't Over Do It...

dont comment here if your not a member ~_~ though that is a very good response xD
I don't like brushes because its sort of using other peoples work. Also, a lot of people use brushes without giving credit to the creators.
plus, this thread is locked D:
darn bugs xD
