In a small and fairly isolated island country, monsters have mysteriously appeared in its forests. Over generations the monsters have multiplied and are starting to attack villages for food. Many of the country's people have now become warriors. The search for the origin of the monsters continue. Wow, I write like an elementary student...

It's just a general idea for anyone interested to build on :3

I've found an awesome scan to work with for this project. But the detail in it is pawnsome. So it may take a really long time for me to actually finish it. Haha and when i say long, it's really long. o__o

Morka Skogen

Location
Morka Skogen is a never-ending (or so it seems) forest located in the North, separated from other countries by vast grassy planes that are mostly referred to as Kallt Omrade.

Climate
The northern weather keeps the earth frozen for the most time of the year. While summers are nice and warm the air still feels uncomfortably chilly around Morka Skogen.

Appearance
The forest appears to be nothing but dead: thick bone chilling fog covers the surrounding grass that never seems to grow and hides the wall of dead pines and moss from anyone who passes by.

Forbannad
Forbannad is a village located on the edge of Kallt Omrade. Most of the houses are old and have sheltered quite a few generations. The community is tightly knit and unfriendly to newcomers most of time.
Children are strictly forbidden from getting near Morka Skogen.

Stories and Myths
There are no actual facts about Morka Skogen. The residents of Forbannad tell that the forest protects itself by keeping up the cold fog and sending out vicious creatures to slaughter any intruders.
According to the oldest stories that have turned into fairy-tales to scare the kids, the forest is filled with monsters that can look almost human on the outside but will feed on human flesh and blood if it presents itself willingly… or not. However, these "fairy-tales" came to be after many people of the village disappeared and the fog around Morka Skogen thickened.

Also, does anyone have any scans with horned characters? Preferably male *_* I always wanted a character with horns but when it comes to anime I can't draw without a ref and that wouldn't be good when submitting to OAA...

P.s. I'll probably use this scan for my 1st wall.

cool WIP 8D a forest scene will be pretty tricky though. Imo ruins are easier. Of course it depends on how much focus will be on the BG... you might be able to get away with blurring it, ohoho. Like this! If you wanted something sharp this is a good ref... but detailed trees take ages and ages to do >>"

it's straightforward, and it immediately produces ideas in our heads so it's a good descript imo. I really like the stock you picked as an example, and maybe you would like this and this.

As for scans, I'm afraid I don't know any ._. ears yes yes yes but not horns. Well... I don't think ref would be too bad as long as the result doesn't look too much like the original.

Location
Inside, and on top of, Mount Iusuv, a live (but controlled) volcano. The area was originally off limits to anyone, but a few decades ago an ex-military engineer, fleeing the war, was denied the right to settle on any piece of common land. He then announced he would settle on 'uninhabitable land' and, working with fellow refugees, applied an experimental heat control system to lessen the heat inside the volcano, and make it habitable. Though at first the small village was ridiculed by the general public, over time (and after the war) they gained a sort of respect, because of the residents' unusual skill working with junk and steam power from the volcano to create machines.

Climate
Hot. But tolerable. A phenomenon called 'plume squall' occurs every 30 minutes or so, announced by colored smoke signals and the warning bells. An upward gust of warm air is released as the cooling generators switch to alternative power. It is not deadly, but tourists have difficulty adjusting to the frequent clanging of the bells. Some teenagers came up with the idea of making steam-powered gliders out of discarded airship parts to ride the squalls, and now it is considered a typical activity.

Appearance
Rock walls. Suuv is located quite close to the mouth of the volcano. Steam is the primary energy source, and most buildings have several chimneys. The houses are mostly made of junk metal, but this just gives everything a unique look.

Since I missed your WIP last time... why not ruins in a forest clearing? :D That kind of background might kill your brains but think how pretty it would be!
Personally, I would love to see a forest. Maybe not detailed but still.

I like all of your concepts so far, we're certainly on the right track.

@luna, if you are going to draw a forest let me know and I'll give you all the reference material that I have at disposal, the forest+ruins was one of the possible scenarios me and asa were considering to do for our Arus Fantasia collab wall, so I gathered a couple of images to use as reference/inspiration.

Speaking of which, I haven't really told you about the wallpaper me and asa are going to work on. We still haven't decided on the "story" that describes the place yet, but one thing we know for sure is that it'll be done using this scan (the left side with the girl). There were a couple of concepts I thought of with asa, in the end we decided that we'll have the girl walk on a sort of path of floating stones in the sky between the clouds with other ruins surrounding it, leading to an ancient structure (still have to decide if it's going to be a castle or a temple, right now I'm more keen on doing a temple though).

An other concept I thought of that I want to share with you is one of wild region, one that rarely gets crossed by travellers, where one can't almost tell the difference between living creatures and plants and where these "plants" are somehow shaped like monsters and mythological creatures. I got the inspiration from this artwork of Cry-On (a JRPG that got canceled during the production phases). The idea that I have for the background is to have a sort of enormous long tree that is bent towards the horizon, shaped like a dragon (and with the terminal part that resembles a dragon's head). I still don't know if there are scans that could fit with it though, but I thought I'd share the idea if anyone wants to give it a try.

We are chasing the same idea of foliage being shaped like creatures. I was thinking how to hide my lack of drawing skills and was planning to use this as a reference so I wouldn't have to draw a full body. Maybe Morka Skogen could be placed somewhere near the wild region?

Why not? We could make it so that Morka Skogen is the northest area of the region, and the only civilized part of it as well.

By saying "civilized" I hope you mean nothing more than a small human population xD I don't plan on giving them electricity (go get your candles people!). I'll add more info about the village in my first description post.

Never knew that describing a village could be so difficult. Would be easier to show an old Russian movie or something :p
