Wallpaper Competition #8
theme of the contest
Right Down To The Letterthe script refinery is all about text. text, text, text. but what is the basic constituent of a text? why, letters of course. so for this contest, pick a scan and choose a letter (or keyboard symbol) that is meaningful for the character(s) and/or plot to wall. please ensure that the character(s) interact(s) with the letter (or symbol), which should be big and visible (around character-sized)! special thanks goes to zazou for contributing this idea. =]
clarifications & stuff
--> the usual: giving the okay to collabs, suitable old walls, walls not submitted to the AP gallery, and replacing entries before the deadline; one entry per member--> what do "letters" and "keyboard symbols" encompass? in terms of letters, that is open to mainly the english alphabet. although others, if applicable, will be accepted. as to keyboard symbols, stuff like!and & are included, but not something you can't type. [details about pictographic characters tbd.]
--> what do you mean by "interact"? the character(s) and the letter must be incorporated into the wall with thought towards each other. so you can't have a person stand next to a letter. instead, you might have someone sitting on a letter, or lying on it; stuff like that. unsure? contact either me or august or post an image in this thread.
--> how meaningful is meaningful? an obvious example: L for L is meaningful. do take note, however, that using the first letter of a character's name is not a great idea if that letter isn't exceptionally significant. for example, using M for misa is discouraged whereas and for near is fine.
--> Please note that abbreviations, such as ROD for Read Or Die, are now permitted with this rule revision.

Hummm... Only letters? I didn't think of SUCH a hard contest! lol
Anyway that's a very cool one for sure! :p
I would love to join...
But sure we can't use a short word?
PLEASE! lol
Okay I'll have to reread some manga to come up with an idea of letter...

Oh... I hope I can have more than one character... Cause I'm already working on a wall... And I have two characters interacting with two letters... :D
I'll think about it

I'm in if I can slot anything between my uni work and the Christmas break. Good luck everyone!
Hmm... DOA could work [for brainstorming, as it's an acronym for Dead Or Alive].
Would GUNDAM count as an acronym? ._.;; I mean, technically it is...

@ motogp: too bad that life is like that sometimes. >__<
@ xyrick, rukawa11, deto15, umbody: yay for participation! :D
@ pi: i have to talk to august about it. but personally, i would permit single hiragana/katakana characters, since they are phonetic. (our approximate standard regarding these things is that we want to avoid pictographic characters that are the equivalent of english words. it wouldn't be fair to people who wall letters only; at the same time, you can't deconstruct, say, a chinese character, and wall one of the strokes. xD;)
@zazou: no words please, regardless of length. as to your idea...while we don't want to make the contest too challenging, we don't want the whole "significant letter/symbol" concept to be lost. so unless it is an existing abbreviation (as in it is commonly used), then i might have to say no.
@lily: *sigh* well i suppose gundam is allowed...even if it is so commonly thought of as a non-proper-dictionary word.

Well my first idea for this contest was of course to have a letter having some sense but regard to the way you put it, it seems that we all gonna have to work on ROD, H, L, X (as the name of the manga) and some few characters that have only one letter as a name.
Not a lot of manga use abbreviations and as we don't read them all in the same language it wouldn't have all sense in english...
So if you don't allowed acronyms (that still have meaning... The point could also be to add a little description that would explain the acronym and its relevant sense here) of any kind I'm not sure there will be lots of original walls.
Anyway I understand that you don't want people to trow any letter in the wall just to fit the character.
I'll manage to found something else...
