I like to go on fact and reason for thoeries and this is what we know for sure, so keep it in mind while you determine for yourself who is right and wrong.

-The mangekyou Sharingan can only be obtained by those who are willing and able to perform a certain task.
-The correct task is not set in stone, only that Itachi was able to aquire his by killing his dearest friend.
-The rest of the Uchiha clan was killed because Itachi wanted to be free of imperial duties that is Uchiha. (This has something to do with the hidden scroll under the Uchiha temple that only Sharingan users can read. Maybe)
-It is also stated by itachi that his killing spree was a test of his powers.
-Sasuke lives on, because like all omni-powerful people are, he wants to be able to test his full abilities against another. Sasuke has the potential to be the third Mangekyou user of the Uchiha, and therefore is spared and informed of how to obtain it. (prob. cared about his little bro too to some degree??)

In truth there is a greater motive to all this and it probably involves the one other unknown mangekyou sharingan user. but since that is outside your question amerie-chan, I will leave it at that. ^_^

There is probably some kind of connection between the obtaining of the Mangekyou level and relationship between best friends.

Most already know from previous posts that Itachi obtained his from the death of his best friend.

Kakashi on the other hand trained for his using methods unbeknowst to anyone. It's quite possible the fact that the Sharigan eye was from Obito helped contribute to reaching the maximum capability of the Sharigan without the necessary death of anyone close to him. As noted by Kakashi, everyone close to him was killed (though the whereabouts of Rin are still unknown and its possible she is still alive since her name, assuming, is not engraved on the memorial stone, and he's only protecting her) and as of then the only closest ones to Kakashi is Team 7.

It is also noted in the manga, I read somewhere, that the Kyuubi warned Sasuske not to kill Naruto or else he'd live to regret it. This could also be a tie in between obtaining the Mangekyou Sharingan following what Itachi wanted him to do or a tie between the Uchiha's and the Nine-Tailed Fox or just for the Kyuubi to protect his existance, althought it can be assumed there is a deeper meaning to such message.

The entire Uchiha Clan was killed by Itachi, Sasuske's older brother. If you watch episodes 83-84 they'll show the events of what actually happened.

The reasons behind Itachi's actions are still somewhat uncertain despite Itachi telling Sasuke that he killed them all to test his powers. There seems to be something more to that, which hopefully will be revealed as the story progresses further.

Not sure what exactly your saying here, but if your implying that kakashi can use the Mangekyou Sharingan as well, I believe this to be false. I will double check my sources, but because kakashi is not blood/body related to the uchiha, he can't use the Sharingan higher-levels. Also Obito could only use the Sharingan at one point:

I believe it was the final battle where he lost his life saving kakashi.

It is mentioned that there is only be 3 Mangekyou users alive. Sasuke is one of the 3. the other 2 are Itachi and *******. <- Won't ruin for ya, but he left the village a long time before Itachi did if I remember correctly.

Also there is a bit more reason for itachi killing his clan. but I will explaing another time if it is so desired.

Not quite actually. If you Wiki Kakashi, it states he can use the Mangekyou Sharingan and developed it during isolation training after Sasuke turned. It is however only in the Manga that he has it and most likely will appear in the anime sooner or later.

Sasuke does not have the Mangekyou Sharingan, although he has the potential too. Also stated by Itachi is that he and Kakashi are so far the only users capable of weilding it.

Considering Kakashi can use the Sharingan at all is a marvel which defies the kekkei genkai. From what the series states and what is implied, Obito gave Kakashi his Sharingan eye while it was activated hence why it will never deactivate for Kakashi.

If you Wiki Kakashi Gaiden, Obito\'s activation of the Sharingan eye before his death only had 2 tomoe. Kakashi, however, was able to mature the eye fully to 3 tomoe as well also noted by Itachi\'s comments on how he is able to weild it so skillfully. With only 2 tomoe, the Sharingan would have been limited even for Kakashi to use so well against his opponents. Only a fully matured Sharingan would prove to be useful against Jonin level and higher.

Kakashi does however lack the Uchiha\'s stamina to maintain the eye and use its powers nearly constantly hence where the kekkei genkai restriction comes to play.

Considering the circumstances of having an already activated Sharingan, it is correct to assume that the user (although they must be exceptionally skilled: both Itachi and Kakashi were extremely gifted: Itachi being able to become an ANBU squad leader at 13; Kakashi attaining Jonin at 10) is capable of maturing the Sharingan to its full potental despite not being part of the Uchiha clan, yet cannot maintain its powers like that of an Uchiha.

Itachi as well commented to Kakashi that despite his mastery of his clan\'s kekkei genkai, he would still be no match for an Uchiha solely on the basis of their stamina with it activated.

This conflicts with what you say.

AS you say, when kakashi does learn his higher sharingan levels, its during the 3 year skip. And unless Itachi states it elsewhere in the manga (after the gaiden arc) The quote you mentioned above sounds like the one Itachi says to the Sasuke during the clan murder.
If that is true, how can he talk about him and kakashi being the 2 out of the 3?? It doesn't work story time-wise.

Your correct on Itachi telling Sasuske, that if he were to obtain the Mangekyou, there would be 3 users and like you stated, with the exception of the Kakashi portion, there is a possibility of another Uchiha who had or has the Mangekyou. However that is open to interpretation considering the vagueness of what Itachi said and during the time it was said.

Several have speculated that Itachi was referring to Kakashi as well at the time since he had the Sharingan, although it was not a Mangekyou, and that he, Sasuske, and Kakashi would seem to be the only ones capable of attaining it considering the rest of the clan was dead.

This theory is plausible since Itachi could have predicted Kakashi's capabilities. However, he only stated that if Sasuske were to obtain it, there would be 3 which implies that a 3rd user, like you said, could exist and left the village and whose whereabouts or status is unknown.

Also I need to make a correction on Kaskashi's age obtaining Jonin level. He was 13. Itachi was 10 when he was Chunin. I got the -nin's and -hi's mixed up there

I only rather recently took a real interest into Naruto. I can only catch up on what I can read from sources while working through the slow process of watching a new episode each week on Toonami.

You are right, when everyone heard itachi speaking of the 3 survivors everyone assumed it was kakashi. It really wasn't. The word usage is most likely referring to someone else. Most likely the one who tought him the "God of Sun" technique. <- unproven theory mind you)

errrhhmmm... Yea, even though Kakashi will learn the higher lvls. I don't think he is counted as one of the 3 since Itachi does not seems to want to acknowledege kakashi ever. A threat, possibly; but one of the 3 he refers too, most likely no.

Actually i can't wait to see the unknown Uchiha in action. Wonder if he knows even stronger attacks then Itachi's "God of Sun"? Oh won't that be sweet!!!!

If Naruto were to become the Hokage, assuming that Tsunade is still Hokage up until this happens and that no one succeeds her until then, he would be the 6th.
