This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

I thought since the purpose of our group is to trace and re-cg images for the gallery that we could have a project thread! The thread could be one of two things. You could either post what you are currently working on for the gallery or you could take requests. That way we all can see what each other are doing or maybe have something to do if you are bored ^_^

As for me, I am doing the following at the moment! (Links lead to the medium images)
45% complete - Raimuiro-Senkitan
01% complete - Bleach

Yeah, Im working on Zero no Tsukaima scan, about 75-80% done. Im new to vectoring manga scans, so its really hard! There are no set boundaries for shadows and light, so It looks kinda crappy right now. p(ToT)q emoticon If anyone has any advice on how to do that well/or anything on how to better vector manga scans let me know!

Many of my vectors have come from manga.

What I normally do is impose shadow patterning that would be more similar to an anime style than a manga screetone thing.

For example, as I look at that zero no tsukaima scan, I would have three levels of shading--first off there's bits with quite widely spaced "light gray" screetone, then there's like, denser spotted "medium gray" screen tone, and then there's bits where it's solid or "dark gray".

You have two choices for doing these areas--you can either layer up the shapes on top of each other, setting the blend mode to something like overlay or softlight or whatever and therefore each subsequent layer creates the more darker bits corresponding to the light gray, medium gray and dark gray I mentioned. If there are more gradient like areas than hard edges, you can do that with the layer effects, but it's easier to just "flatten" everything.

This whole method can be quite easy, but can sometime look weird if your underlying colours go funny with a gray overlay layer on top. I used this technique on this manga vector - http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/scans/tagged/item112368/

Alternatively you can specifically colour in the areas in the shade you want them to have. This has the advantage of more control, but does mean if your shaded bit goes from say, a shirt to an arm, then you have to match up those different shapes perfectly, which can be an absolute pain. Not sure I have a manga example of that, but it's what we all normally do on vectors.

---

Anywho, I'm normally working on load's of stuff, most of which sits half finished until I suddenly have a spurt of interest.

Closest to completion are some vectors of some screen caps from the opening title sequence to an anime called 'mouse'. They're very simple and easy, but also a bit too echii for AP too.

I'm also about half way through vectoring this - http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/scans/Ah-My-Goddess/item85566/ . I'm walling it mainly cos I have a thing for hild :). I dunno if I'll upload the vectors, as they're a bit big and they're the sort fo thing that restrict what you could usefully do with them for a wall (I'm just recreating the bg that's already on the scan).

I'm also nearly done on a vector of this - http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/scans/Heroic-Age/item119551/ - similar sort of thing to the omg wall, I doubt I'll upload the vectors, and I'm mainly just doing the wall so I can have some fun making a nice space bg.

I'm doing this one - http://www.animepaper.net/gallery/scans/Dirty-Pair/item28198/ - of kei and yuri which will definitely make it into the scan gallery as a vector, although I'm actually vectoring my own scan of the arbook this is in, rather than this scan. Not sure if I'll wall it too.

That's sort of a "top three" as it were, but there's other stuff too :).

Wow, thanks a lot tris! Haha, didn't think anyone would actually help me! Ill try it out right away. The hardest part is easily Louise's hair. I could have done the basic anime style shading with hard boundaries between colors if it weren't for her (frankly, awesome looking) hair. I would also like to try and take this opportunity to try to use different blending modes and see if I can't experiment and make some more 3d looking vectors like Ive seen. We will see what happens.

I can't wait to see BC's Raimuiro-Senkitan scan, and Tris' Dirty Pair scan completed!

Outlines are done but my computer don't follow 8)E emoticon so it will take some time to finish it.

@ Hageshi - I would say most of us use Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Illustrator.

@ trismugistus - your Urd re-cg turned out awesome ;)

@ Hageshi - I use Inkscape. It's free and not really hard to use but it's a little buggy sometimes. You can found it here: www.inkscape.org

@ fullmetal21 & bcmcgee - Thank you (n_n)/ emoticon

This is the second vector I make for an anime DVD cover project.
(I'm a "Coversmaker" from ACF. Moutonzare too. ( []-[])9 emoticon)
There is my first vector for the cover:

@ Hageshi: I use Illustrator CS3.(n_n)-b emoticon

Good work from everybody.(^3^) emoticon

Hey Razorgirlx, great vector I love the way you meshed the two together to form something unique. Is CS3 all that great or is it just going to suck up more of my memory and processor usage?

I am almost done with my bleach vector/re-cg I just can't seem to find a spare hour to finish it >_<

Hi bcmcgee! thanks for your kind opinion of my vector.

Passing to another topic, the CS3, it uses less RAM than it's predecessors, and the rendering on the effects is much better, I'm very pleased with that because now I don't have to use photoshop that much >:3 emoticon.

There's many other features that I love, the selections filters (depending on color, opacity, outline color, etc.) and the color guide, and some others ripped directly from corel (XD) emoticon, ok I know I shouldn't say it but corel is better for placing objects (don't hit me please). I only have a few problems with this new version: the fusion tool has customizable steps no more D:, the spanish version is weirder than ever (downloading that was a BIG mistake (XD) emoticon), and the new logo >_< (XD) emoticon.

I wanna see that bleach vector! I'm sure you'll find a spare hour soon ^.^b

Edit: New project (started today) I just saw this today and couldn't resist it.

Eyes already finished (like the 15% of the image)
