Budget Headache
Well it was a day that started good. I went to the medical staff on campus and got the clear to throw lightly until this weekend in which the nurse said that my pulled groin should heal within the week. Then it was heard that the Phillies won. Then came time for Student Government and the vote on the Budget for the 2008-2009 fiscal year. It went downhill from there as I quickly found out that the California University of Pennsylvania Japanese Anime Club (CUPJAC) which I help oversee got allocated the same $1000 last year, when we requested $2900. The fact that we didn't gain any disappointed us, but then there was the fact that 11 of 13 new clubs got allocated more than us when it took us 6 years to get allocated $1000 in the first place. Then of those 11 new clubs that got allocated more than us, 7 of them got allocated at least double what we got. Someone argued how some of these clubs go to competitions, but then we've helped the rising Tekkshocon in Pittsburgh by going every year. So a club that at least is found in 2-3 charitable events each year and donates to events like the Relay for Life and the Fight Against Heart Disease, as well the Prevention of Domestic Violence is less important that a club who is barely old enough to walk on its own two feet? Then there's the issue that our membership continuously expands and that more and more people want to go to the convention every year and that now our budget can't afford to keep them going at a cheap price and that now our members next year might be forced to pay more out the ass than in three years? I hope we can veto this budget next Monday because in all recollection it is very unfair to small yet outstanding organizations like CUPJAC who spend a lot of time each year to help out and give back to the community.
