Vectoring/pen question http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18387/ How long should each pen segment be? en-us Mon, 06 Feb 2006 17:59:18 -0500 AnimePaper RSS Generator http://static3.animepaper.net/images/v5/icons/ap-logo-sm.gif animepaper.net http://www.animepaper.net/ Animepaper site syndication ~LadySaotome http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18387/ Well, I did about 1/2 in one continous line &, after reading everyone's suggestions I switched to shorter line segments & naming layers according to section. I have finished my quick outline & am now going around cleaning up - merging points, adding curves, etc - and it is so much easier to clean up little lines where I finish one & move to the next and feel like I accomplished something versus the nasty, huge, looong line that is going to take me forever! So, I've learned my lesson from this one. Mon, 06 Feb 2006 17:59:18 -0500 ~genobee http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18387/ I got same problem here using photoshop but here is my solution :

With the pen tool selected, either press the + key, or press the “Add to shape area” button on the top of the screen. But make sure your previous lines are visible. If not, simply press enter to select them.

All you need to do now is repeat till you have done all the outlines. Make sure the pen tool is still in add-mode. Like I said, it sometimes resets.

Hope that's help Mon, 06 Feb 2006 09:23:58 -0500 `Meth-anE http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18387/ Well, I prefer keeping them in smaller portions, lke until the line intersects with another line. If you do it all in 1 line, it's gonna be pretty confusing. :S If you can, by all means, do it.

I dunno if Paint Shop can merge layers, but that's one thing you can do to reduce file sizes and the numbder of layers. :P Wed, 01 Feb 2006 02:44:27 -0500 ~LadySaotome http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18387/ Thanks! I hadn't thought of it but I bet I can do the multiple folder thing. Here goes! Wed, 01 Feb 2006 01:51:09 -0500 θtrismugistus http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18387/ Do whatever is most convenient for you - it's the end result that matters in the final analysis :)

I'm not familiar with paint shop pro, but photoshop allows you to stick layers in little folders it calls "sets". These are a very useful way of managing things as you can have a set for the the left leg, a set for the right leg, a set for the face, a set for the left eye, etc, etc - as many as you want, really. They also help with clutter as you can expand/contract the folders so that they do/don't display the layers within. Tue, 31 Jan 2006 09:59:18 -0500 ~Yulaw http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18387/ Everyone uses different software applications to vectorize scans etc. I'm current busy myself on working on a scan and doing it in Photoshop. I gues I already have about... 40 layers or so? Its my first time doing though:P I dont know the deal with Paint Shop Pro but I think its all personal preference. I like layers because if something happens you always can go back to that part to edit it etc. Goodluck! Tue, 31 Jan 2006 09:49:53 -0500 ~LadySaotome http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18387/ Ok, I'm working on vectoring a scan but have a question. Do you recommend trying to have one continuous line all over the scan (with lots of whatsumcalled points) or lots of little sections of lines? My problem is, every time I start a new line, Paint Shop Pro wants to create another layer & pretty soon I've got 50 layers. So I've been trying to keep it all one long line & I figured, once I'm finished I can go back & break the line up into segments so the layers thing doesn't happen. Plus then I can change bits of the line to 2 versus 3 pixels, etc.

So how do you all deal with it? Or is it all personal preference? Tue, 31 Jan 2006 09:25:55 -0500
