What manga got u the most? http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Some manga doesn't really get u but some do so come and check out! en-us Tue, 28 Mar 2006 17:47:17 -0500 AnimePaper RSS Generator http://static3.animepaper.net/images/v5/icons/ap-logo-sm.gif animepaper.net http://www.animepaper.net/ Animepaper site syndication ~Casin http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Usually, when I hear of a manga from somewhere (boards, conversations, blah, blah, etc.) I look it up to see what it's about and usually to see reviews or ratings if it's any good. Then I start reading it. I try not to judge on looks although most manga I come across aren't really that ugly, I guess. They're just in different styles.
One exception I guess might be Alichino. I'm not used to manga with such intense drawings or whatever, so I kind of have trouble reading it (either cuz it's distracting or because it's suffocating or something, I don't really know).
But ratings and story are more important to me than looks.
Although, I guess, without realizing it, I do have a tendency to prefer the more "shonen pop" sort of style. I tried reading Berserk and Blade of the Immortal and I just got kind of bored of them. It might have just been because the story wasn't drawing me that well (BotI was pretty interesting, though, I think. Berserk I wasn't far enough for anything interesting to happen). I do prefer shonen style over the more shoujo stuff, but I can get used to things easily enough and still enjoy it (I thought the characters in Akira [not manga, but whatever] were butt ugly, but I still liked the movie - although the other visual effects were awesome, so maybe that made up for it.)
And I don't actually buy manga...heh... But that's not entirely my fault. They don't sell manga where I live, and I'm not allowed to buy things over the internet (mum's worried about security). Tue, 28 Mar 2006 17:47:17 -0500 ~andricon-girl http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Hmm. Cover art usually strikes me first. If I don't really like the style.. I probably won't look further. Then I'll look at the story to see what it's all about.. I picked up Nana, xxxHolic and Kamui that way.. Most of the others I own, are from series I've seen or been recommended.
Most of the time when I'm buying manga.. I usually know what I'm going to get when I go in. I don't really read instore.. I tend to buy a book or two of one series at a time.. then when I'm done, I start something new. I've started to read reveiws on the web or in mags to see if any other titles catch my interest. Tue, 28 Mar 2006 12:50:19 -0500 ~-Stephanie- http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Different idea is going on there!
^^ Tue, 28 Mar 2006 05:15:22 -0500 ~shiranai http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ There is several cases which makes me buy a manga :
* I know the mangaka
* I know the story (usually because saw the anime)
* The cover is attractive (not necessarily beautiful, it just needs to remind me of "something" I like)
* I don't know anything about the manga, but I read several pages in the bookstore. Usually, it's enough to know if I will like it or not.

And if, unfortunately, the manga I purchased get boring (it rarely happened actually), then I stop buying it. I just can't afford buying something I don't like. There are plenty of manga series that deserves more my money. Wed, 08 Mar 2006 07:22:29 -0500 ~Tino-B http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Me, I see the Anime first, if I didn't like the Anime, chances are, I'm not going to pay for the Manga. Anime i can rent from the videostore, or download, but Manga... you gotta pay, so I like to know what i'm going to pay for first! A really, really good Manga (and Anime for that matter) series is Saikano, I loved Saikano in the Anime, and the Manga was great too, i would recommend it to anyone, but the Manga might be a little to graphic for some younger (and immature) readers. Tue, 07 Mar 2006 05:57:00 -0500 ~-sabishii0tenshi- http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ The cover attracts the most attention, as it gives me an idea to the art style, genre and possibly plot. If its all cheap and genki, I won't pick it up unless there happens to be a picture of an extremely hot and interesting couple or guy on the cover. Then I read the back, and if the plot intrigues me, I'll read it. However, the first page has to get me as well-if it has too much to read there or bad art, I'll put it back instantly unless its extremely recommended by someone I respect.
The plot has to drag me in, touch me emotionally somehow. It also has to get to main point pretty quickly-I only got through the first 10 volumes x/1999 because my older sister first told me the line: "People shouldn't kill each other, because there would always be someone that would cry." That stuck in my head for months, but otherwise, I'm not going to bother unless there's an EXTREMELY promising air of mystery. One-sided characters make me put the book back on the shelf, as well as plots with annoyingly apparent mentalities of "good-vs.-evil".

If its funny, then no questions asked, I'll read it, ignoring any empty plots (like XxxHolic). Characters that jump out at me can make me read a manga (like Sasuke or Kenshin). All in all, characters are the most important thing in the manga for me. If I can relate to no one, its out of the deal. Sat, 04 Mar 2006 23:58:26 -0500 ~chronokidd http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Wel full metal alchemist on the moment and digi charat i can make a good laugh with it ^^ when im feeling sad Sat, 04 Mar 2006 08:03:27 -0500 ~sparky-chan123 http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Fullmetal alchemist, fruits basket and one piece are catching my eyes

I want the real stories with fullmetal alchemist and fruits basket because I heard froma very reliable source that they left out a bunch of things in the anime of fullmetal alchemist... and I already knew they were leaving out a bunch of stuff from fruits basket cause they didn't even show the rooster and the horse...

one piece I'm just getting into... I know I know, why a kids show, right? Personally it's the subbed verison I like best cause luffy doesn't have that stupid laugh in the japanese verison... and the anime in my opinion isn't going fast enough (I especially hate they way that 4kids butchered the show by cutting out so many episodes) Sat, 04 Mar 2006 01:03:58 -0500 ~EpoxElypse http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Naruto and Bleach. I got some of thoes Shonen Jump magazines too, that have a bunch of different manga in them. ;) Sat, 04 Mar 2006 00:45:41 -0500 ~azuki88 http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ I usuallly do a bit of researching on the web first, if I have a book I wanna buy. This saves me time in locating the book whne I go to the actual bookstore, since it gives me an idea about what the book looks like and an estimate on the expected price of it. Other times, I just browse through the cover or title of a book at the bookstore. If it intrigues me, I then go on to read the brief synopsis or description at the back of the book. I'll only buy it i I like what I read at the back of the book. Upon reading the book, and discovering that it is an enjoyable read, I'll go back to buy the other related books /works of the author. Otherwise you'd find it hard to get me to buy another book by the same author. As in you'd have to praise her work and really cheer it on... Fri, 03 Mar 2006 16:31:28 -0500 °Tias http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ I dont find any i like at all, since the manga's they sell around in the book stores here are like mew mew tokyo or shaman king -.-
the ONLY one that COULD be interesting in love hina, but it's in danish and it sucks and ordering it will cost almost the doppel of the price -_-
but they mostly just come with those mangas where a girl gets magical power or somthing?
they just make anime and manga for a idiot in front of everyone, the only think that is stupid is DB(z)(gt)
and pokemon, and kinda digimon to -_- Fri, 03 Mar 2006 08:23:38 -0500 ~liddokun87 http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Cover come first i guess...but usually i read manga that was suggested by friends..^^ Fri, 03 Mar 2006 02:10:48 -0500 ~Wonderbread http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Hmm... well yes drawing does attract me first but not necessarily. Usually I look at titles first and then reading the summary to decide whether it's interesting or not. But usually the mangas I read are suggested by something or someone.

Then I usually read the first chapter online or in the bookstore or something to clarify that I will want to continue reading it. :] Thu, 02 Mar 2006 23:36:33 -0500 ~zankoku http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ What, how, and if I buy depends on my mood and who I am with while shopping.(For example; it's hard to sit down and flip through a book when you have a group of antsy people travelling with you. Money, unfortunately, also tends to be a problem when buying) What I love about Border's and other such bookstores is you don't have to buy the books that you read there. However, if a book or Manga that I read has a great enough impact I will save (if I have to) to buy it.

More than plot; I find that well developed characters, dialogue, and artistic style are what draw me in. An excellent example of this (In my humble opinion) is the Blade of the Immortal series. I find that everything about it is enticing and what makes it even better is that after the 14 volumes that I've purchased thus far; I've yet to become bored of it. Thu, 02 Mar 2006 23:13:38 -0500 `chichiri1907 http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ I actually saw Hana-kimi on the store, and i loved the book cover so I decided to go ahead and buy it, and oh my gosh I was the lcjiest person ever, it became so clear that hana kimi was a great series of 28 volumes and its one of my top five favorite mangas :) Thu, 02 Mar 2006 21:03:54 -0500 ~Pokute http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/18630/ Dorohedoro, not many know it, but its my faivourite. The front cover: This really got me excited. Seemed like the perfect manga for me. And now i am hooked, the only bad thing is, the translators take a while to translate it (about 6 or so months for one chapter -_-) they are busy with other more popular manga i guess.
