Harry Potter banned?! http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ what are your thoughts? en-us Thu, 30 Mar 2006 19:58:02 -0500 AnimePaper RSS Generator http://static3.animepaper.net/images/v5/icons/ap-logo-sm.gif animepaper.net http://www.animepaper.net/ Animepaper site syndication ~serpico http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ I also think its stupid...harry potter is fantasy which means it shouldn't be taken literally...and if people are actually believing this stuff then its their choice and their problem..and its not like everyone thinks the world of harry potter is real. anyway...that's my opinion. Thu, 30 Mar 2006 19:58:02 -0500 ~draken http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ Don't like that one bit!!

I love that saga and anyone who thinks it promotes witchcraft is reading WAY too into things. People usually think of bllod sacrifices and what not, but in all six books, yes there are deaths (and OK, a hand was lopped off for one potion) you won't find a single pentagram or satanatic refererence or the other fun stuff people don't like much.

Personally I think the California sun is getting to those people who'd ever want to ban this series. it's an amazing, magical world and if I belived in souls, I'd probably sell mine to live there Thu, 30 Mar 2006 19:07:20 -0500 ~LenasLover http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/

resjes

I've heard about this before, we discussed this in English. It's banned for talking about fictionous things and such. You can't learn anything from wizardry. So, it's understandable that it is banned.

You're right, but HP has a lot of morals inbedded in it, too. Then, kids in middle and high school would have most of their morals set by then anyhow. I don't agree with banning books at all. We shelter our kids too much, if you ask me. Other countries don't do that. Heck, look at anime. In it's japanese form- before it gets molested by the english dub- it has cursing, nudity, violence. Anyhow.. I don't see anything wrong with having fiction books for entertainment in a school library for kids to check out and read on their own time. I don't think these types of books should ever been assigned at that level of education- it would just be busy work. Sure, it's important to get kids reading by using entertaining books at an early age- but the Harry Potter series is aimed at an older crowd mostly (by older I mean older kids- even though I am an HP loving adult). ^_^ Thu, 30 Mar 2006 01:37:51 -0500 ~resjes http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ I've heard about this before, we discussed this in English. Wed, 29 Mar 2006 21:46:25 -0500 ~Sacred-Eternity http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ That is just wierd. I mean don't you think they are getting a bit overboard with banning things now?
I mean they might as well ban everything. I mean how about Cinderella. A pumpkin can't really turn into a carrige right? And no one really sleeps for 100 years and still looks like a beautiful young lady. But that's just my own opinion.
I don't think it's fair. Wed, 29 Mar 2006 21:30:49 -0500 !Shiteru http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ That.. stupid? and interesting xD Wed, 29 Mar 2006 15:01:25 -0500 ~gotrice http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ I don't like Harry potter but I wouldn't ban it. Schools ban everything nowadays Wed, 29 Mar 2006 12:12:28 -0500 ~teh-saber http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ I believe that countries would ban Harry Potter because it conflicts with their beliefs and values, not necessarily because of the witchcraft, although that could be an important factor when taking a ban into consideration. I don't think that all people that ban these books are narrow minded, just admant in what they believe. Wed, 29 Mar 2006 09:47:38 -0500 $NeonNinja http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ Promoting witchcraft? Ha! There's no such thing as witchcraft, now if you excuse me I need to curse all the people who ban arrtists work. I you don't like it, don't read it. You can say you don't like it and those who feel otherwise has equal right to say they DO like it. Wed, 29 Mar 2006 03:43:07 -0500 ~dualstriker http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ Hay, schools always tends to ban things that students like... dont know why but i hate it when they ban something just because it is a fad!! grrr... this just makes me very furious!grrrr!! Wed, 29 Mar 2006 03:21:24 -0500 ~alias1 http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ Wow, thats crazy. Im glad they havnt banned over here. Wed, 29 Mar 2006 02:08:11 -0500 ~LenasLover http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ It's stupid to freak out about it. You have a public library and book stores.. and the internet. You can get the books anywhere.. and read them in places other than school. Back when I was in school they banned The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland. People are going to start crap and raise arms against anything and everything.

Oh, and whoever said Harry Potter was a weak fad was a right git. You can't call a book series sold as much as this one a 'fad'. Look up the definition. Er, not trying to start a war here.. just saying.. it's a silly comment. Wed, 29 Mar 2006 02:06:50 -0500 ~Riniel-Silima http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ I think thats stupid!...but people have their own opinions. Wed, 29 Mar 2006 01:57:02 -0500 ~thewoundedsoldier http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ I'd probably swear if disgust of their sheer stupidity and ignorance if didn't respect the rules here. Its so bloody stupid. Why are some people obsessed with the term occult?!
I suppose that whinne the pooh is promoting the honey occult and that this was preached against in the bible and is one of the signs of the coming od judgement day.

Rubbish, its a movie we're talkin about. Don't get me wrong I'm happy with my religion, but I just have to hate the kind of people that do this kind of thing.

Lets look at the argument:

Harry potter promotes witch craft;
1.No, it is a story, I don't see you protesting against Merlin.
2.Young people are always infulenced by their favourite movies/ interests. For example when I was young I was always prentnding I was a transformer, does that mean I was in a transofrmer cult? No!
3. Witch craft was a thing feared in medevil times. Their has never been a reported act of witch craft and there is no proof of its existance, its the same with religions in a way. Do the people saying this want to get into that argument? I think not, it can't be won.

Harry Potter is a Harmless story, and a damm good one depending on your interests.
1. Harry Potter (and some other stories) have gotten more people in to reading than any religion ever will, this practice of literacy helps their education.
2. Stories of such imagination and fantasy expand the mind and help people think outside the box.
3. I amoungst millions of others have watched/read and enjoyed the harry potter story (up to this point, its not yet finished) and have no interest in trying to learn witch craft or get into any occult. If you are having problems then clearly something your school is doing is responsible for all of this. Thu, 23 Mar 2006 06:03:49 -0500 ~LCRIVELLER http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ It is incredible how people can complain about something.... boh... I like H.P. a lot, and I don't really care about this kind of stuff.. Thu, 23 Mar 2006 05:37:55 -0500 ~Pinkandblackcat http://www.animepaper.net/forums/rss/20443/ Why Cant People Leave Things Alone Oh Thats Right They Cant! It's Just Like The Book To Kill A Mockingbird They Banded That Book And I Realy Liked That Book.

People Are Going To Read What They Want to. The Bible Wicca Books And Other Fantasy Books.....

What Is The Difference Between All These Books Nothing They Both Tell Stories. About This That Never Happened In My Opinion. Im An Aethist So The Bible To Me Is A Bunch Of Stories And Harry Potter Which I Love.
Well That Might Not Of Made Sence ...
Wed, 22 Mar 2006 20:53:42 -0500
