[Anime Discussion] Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

Why is nearly every topic in this board locked? :S

Anyway, regarding Rei, the first episode was funny and I liked it because it somehow was a variation or change. The second episode, that i saw yesterday, promises a new exciting story. Just what is Rika supposed to do there, I'm so excited ^_^

The second episode of the new OVA, Rei, was really good. The third episode will be out soon, too, I believe. I was kind of surprised with the fanservice-y first episode, but it was actually pretty enjoyable. Most of Higurashi's first episodes don't really reflect the show well, do they? I thought the second episode's story was _really_ good and I can't wait to see how it develops. Also glad to see Rika continuing her larger role in the series, as opposed to season one, which was often more focused on Keiichi.

I just LOVE the new OP, Eiko Shimamiya provided yet another wonderful song for the OP. I wasn't too crazy about Kai's OP, but I loved season one's. The ED is kind of boring and maybe a bit too slow, but it's also quite pretty.

Originally, I heard Rei was supposed to be a regular, full-fledged season, but for one reason or another, it got cut down to an OVA. I hope too much of the plot doesn't get cut out, because I'm really enjoying it thus far.

Higurashi no naku koro ni is one of the greatest anime I have seen, the psychological a mysterious aspect of the first series really got me wondering how the things would end, and I just had to finish the series, not mentioning the Kai series, which was then a must watch... i have mixed feeling about Rei atm. but it still can turn out great

I agree with a lot of people here. I borrowed a CD from my friend then on the first episodes I almost gave up. Lol At first I was really confused as to why it keeps repeating and why the hell are the dead people alive again lol. But something about it attracted me. I don't really know what it was. Maybe it was my desire to know why it kept repeating or something. So after the first season I watched Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni Kai online and it was kind of great I guess. XD I don't think of it as the best anime I've seen but it's pretty interesting and mysterious.

Higurashi is one of my fav animes! It was a bit confusing at first with all the repetitions and not knowing why in the world it happened but after it made sense I just started being so addicted ^^
About rei.. i was hoping for something that would give a conclusion to the series and not an episode full of fan service >.< But it was funny xD
I just don't like how the drawings in the OVA are so different

I love it, personally.
It was very confusing at first, though, jumping in when everything restarted, until it was explained later.
I just wish they're hurry up and fansub Higurashi no naku koro ni rei!

Higurashi, really great series. It might have essentially represented the same exact plot device for the entire show and solved the mystery with deus ex machina, but the brilliance of what they were replaying still makes it a great show.

Higurashi is one of my favorites series. It really adds a twist to the storyline and also makes you think (especially Shion and Mion). The killing scenes were quite brutal too.
Kai made me feel a little better now that the issue got resolved ^^

I don't know if it was mentioned, but the creators of Higurashi have made a new series (only in the game form as of now) Umineko no Naku Koro ni,
Umineko no Naku Koro ni from what i have read is basically, a head of family is gonna die of age, he gathers his relatives to decide his will, things go bad ect, people die, the usual from higurashi.

any way i have a question, when i downloaded a rar i got an episode from season one nekogoroshi, any one know if there is a continuation to it? since i only had one episode, and it seamed like it was going to continue.

Higuashi is probebly one of my most favorite animes ever, but the first episode of rei was really disappointing. I was expecting a more serious episode, not a funservice one especially since it's just a 5 episode ova and not a full season.
But it looks like the next episode will be a good one, so it'll be fine =]

It was a very strange series and I can appreciate shows where not much appears to happen on surface of each episode. Often for such series, when it’s viewed in its entirety, you get to see the added story development of those episodes. Given that, whose complaint was that the first season was exactly the opposite? If it’s more the manga purist, then (I never thought I’d be saying this, because I was once a manga purist) they need to realize that telling a story via a show is much different than a book. A reader can control his/her own pace to his/her liking simply by reading faster or slower; however, for a show, you watch it at the pace it’s presented. It’s hard to find a good balance on what pace will appeal to most users, so I guess this is entirely up for debate. Personally, I loved the pace of the first season.

Well, a few things get answered actually, it's just that people won't notice them immediately or atleast they won't until they'll see the other chapters.

But anyway, as Omnidevil has mentioned, this anime is going to follow the game it derives from, which is divided in 8 chapters (7 chapters released and the 8th last chapter that has to be released this july), each of them 'restarting' from a certain point of the story/plot and showing a different ending. The first chapter, Onikakushi-hen, finished with episode 4. In episode 5 the second chapter, named Watanagashi-hen, will start again from a point of the story we've seen, showing a different ending, and will most likely cover 3-4 episodes as well, and so on. The producers have said that this anime will only cover 6 chapters, leaving out the 7th and the 8th (this last one that as I said still has to be released for the game anyway), but which should provide enough informations to the viewers to uncover the various misteries. A curious fact that I read among this sea of informations (trying not to get spoiled about the plot <_<; ) is that despite the fact that each chapter ends differently, it has been stated by the producers that each character remains the same in terms of overall personality, meaning that what happens in each chapter is due to something external. That's a pretty interesting thing as it makes you speculate of why and what things went that way. :)

I gotta say that I got literally intrigued by this anime and the whole misteries that it covers, and it's probably the best anime of this season (yes, I'm putting it ahead of Haruhi *_*). Oh, in case anyone is interested in joining me in the speculation and analysis of each episode (there are lot of details that I've found out re-watcing the first four episodes), me and a couple of friends created the channel #HigurashiNoNakuKoroNi @ Rizon, on IRC. :)
