Why did you like Code Geass

Code Geass had a very solid storyline from beginning to end. The story is the sole reason I tune in to it every week. Apart from that, you gotta love CC!

The first thing that ever got my attention with Code Geass was when I stumbled upon a showing of it on Adult Swim. Since then I've been hooked and glad I took the time to research a bit more about the series.

This brings me to say but how can anyone not find something they can like about Code Geass? Seriously it's number one in my vote of best anime I've ever seen. Here are just a couple of reasons of why I think so. One reason is clearly the story as it is unrivaled as far as I'm concerned. For one non of the episodes didn't involve just two people exchanging dialogue like DBZ was bad to do or several other anime are. Another thing too is Code Geass wasn't stuffed full of pointless fillers like bleach and some other anime's are notorious for.

The main reason for why i enjoyed Code Geass the most however is because it presented the realization of a harsh reality by literally putting it in your face directly. Examples include main characters dieing unexpectedly, morality being often called under question under various circumstances occur, numerous demonstrations on how war can change people for better or worse are present, prejudice, greed, and other real negative qualities are presented in a realistic way, a plot that keeps you guessing is present, and lastly the main characters Lelouch and others aren't portrayed as perfect they are shown as being capable of mistakes and morale wrongs that are directly relatable to everyday life.

Other reasons worth throwing out there include that the Code Geass developers also demonstrated that a lot of thought went into every showing considering every single one of them was relevant to the plot and had something interesting to share in the episode. Character design was flawless and I can't think of one character that could of used a little more depth plot wise or dynamic wise. Music is also some of the best I've heard in a anime next to Cowboy Bebop back in the 90's. Anyways those are my list of reasons for why Code Geass was good to me.

1. Fabulous main character. Many people don't like Lelouch, but I think he's great - CG would be boring if he was a nice guy.
2. Epic plot with crazy twists.
3. NO CLEAR ROMANCE INVOLVING THE MAIN CHARA. I know he kisses Kallen and she clearly has a crush on him, but they don't get married, they don't have kids and there is no mushiness. I hate that in my mecha anime.
4. Mechas aren't all-powerful flying weapons of mass destruction. I was ridiculously happy when I started watching and I discovered that there are no flying mechas at the beginning of the series.

At first I thought it was just any regular anime when my friend told me about it in Psychology. Then I started watching the first few episodes and boy! I was hooked! The plot twists, and characters just fit in so well. By the time R2 was out, I would waiting for every Sunday just to watch it! Aside from the awesome characters & plot, what probably attracted me was the mecha. I've always been a fan of the mecha genre, especially with the Gundam series which I watched most of. So yeah, Code Geass is probably one of my favourite series that I won't be forgetting anytime soon!

Story:

I believe that the plot was brought to a relatively satisfying conclusion in terms of Lelouch's development as a character, and thus at its core the story definitely worked. Pacing problems became a real issue, especially towards the second half of R2, and that did affect the overall flow, but I never really felt lost and most of the necessary steps were taken to keep things focused on Lelouch's story. Still, certain events were dealt with too quickly, in particular the climatic confrontation with Charles and Marianne.

The last arc seemed to feel out of place, but was rehabilitated by the ending, even if unanswered questions and hanging plot threads of varying importance hurt the final result. Then again, I eventually ended up appreciating that the ending gives the viewer the ability to make up his own mind about Lelouch's fate, but I understand that's the kind of thing not everyone will like.

Animation:

The animation was generally good and, in places, even great. Some frames did lack quality, but not to a bothersome extent. The character designs remained attractive and distinctive enough.

Music and Sound:

Code Geass R2 had good music, and for the most part it was used well within the show itself. The insert songs, in particular, were quite nice.

Characters:

Lelouch, naturally, carried the show once again, and did so successfully to a certain extent. Suzaku and C.C. played the most important supporting roles, though I'm also one of the few people who would add that Kallen wasn't that mistreated either, and got some attention and closure in her own right. Granted, there were also some problems here and there, so some may find it more disappointing than others, but overall I'm okay with these four characters.

Sounds fine, but what brings down the score then? A huge cast which was mostly misused. The fact that too many secondary or tertiary characters were introduced, without giving them enough weight to stand on. Many of them didn't require too much attention in the first place, I can see that the story works fine regardless, but others, like Marianne and ultimately Schneizel, did seem to demand either more screen time or more convincing motivations.The pacing is also to blame for this, unfortunately, to a certain extent.

Entertainment Value:

Whatever else I may say, Code Geass R2 was an entertaining show, in many different ways, and I do not regret watching it.

All in all, I think R2 kept a lot of the spirit of the original, but stumbled quite a bit in practice, resulting in an enjoyable sequel that could easily have been equal or even better than the original with less characters and better pacing, but wasn't.

Overall: 7/10

Why do I like Code Geass ?
cuz it somehow resembles Death Note and Legends of the Galactic Heroes.
Death Note is my favorite Anime! Even though LotGH didn´t live up to my expectations~~

I just really enjoyed how it had EVERYTHING in it. There was something in there for everyone. High school drama/comedy, mechs, magic, battles of intelligence, etc.

OK, OK. On a serious note, one of the reasons I watch CG is because the god damn story. It's good... although I hate the last few episodes. It's so idiotic, so naive... that I think the director and script writer are trying to tie all the loose end before the end of the season.

That's my 2 cents. :)

It was exciting. That's what drew me to it the most. Almost every episode was exciting, one after the other. I haven't watched a show before that kept you on the edge of your seat as much as Code Geass did. Plus, I like shows where you have an anti-hero. Lelouch is a terrific character with a great name and his rivalry with Suzaku was fantastic.
