Intel or AMD Processor

Yes, the Intel Core architecture is leaps and bounds faster than the Pentium 4's.

Ok i just setup my rig its AMD everything seems smooth and quite pleasing on the performance side. My only concern is that its FRIGGIN HOT i need to buy extra case fan to cool it down or else ill be sweating sitting next to it.

so like i need to get a new computer soon too ... originally thinking AMD was better since it was for a while now and all my other comps are AMD powered + i really like ATI cards over Nvidia. But now i dont know what to get Intel or AMD? I guess it would depend on my work load too, this one is gonna be mainly for high end gaming so which one should i get? btw AMD isnt really cheaper than an intel rig it would depend on what your buying

I don't see how your video card manufacturer preference should factor into your CPU decision.

Yes, ATI is owned by AMD now, but that doesn't have any bearing on who your CPU should be made by.

it depends so that the PC is used, Intel is stable for almost all class of application, it administers all the resources for each thing, but they are most expensive , the frequency of the clocks is superiors to those of amd, I prefer a processor intel for my mac book, since as I said it takes well with several applications, however, if the PC is only used for videos games does not dig doubt that I recommend the processors amd, these are stable for games and graphics and they are cheap (this it is very important ).
in summary; if we enumerated the pro and cons intel it owns better benefits than the amd processor. That is my point of view.

I'm using AMD now changed from P3 a long time ago ^^

Although Intel may be better, AMD not that bad imo and it's cheap =p

Just wanted to clear something up, as to the comment regarding this:

Windows XP, Vista, and 7 all support multi-cored CPUs. The windows licensing is per socket. So if you were to use your i7 with HT enabled with Windows XP it will see 8 cores. However it is a matter of if your software is written to use 8 threads or not.

But I digress, the point I was making is that it isn't only supported with windows vista ultimate, or 7.

Ive stuck with Intel for the longest time.
And the CPU im using is a Q6600 G0.
Which is the best for overclocking.
You can easily OC them to 3.0ghz on stock cooling without any heating troubles.
Ive only heard good things about I7s as well.

As far as I know, all versions of Windows 7 will show the eight virtual processor cores, as Windows only limits the number of physical processors for home editions.

I have a Laptop with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and it works really good. :)
And my older PC had an AMD processor which often crashed down. -_-

I'm using an Intel i7-920 processor right. 2.66GHz overclocks to 4.0... Intel hyperthread allows the physical 4-core processor to run 8-cores (only supported with windows ultimate or windows 7). I must admit that AMD processors are well-known for their overclocking capabilities... I used to use them myself. But nothing compares to Intel's i7 >.> I'm just waiting for AMD to make their move...

If you don't believe me, just go look up performance charts for the i7. AMD's x4 processor might beat Intel's C2Q... but i7 just owns o.O

On another note... Processor's don't really mean as much when it comes to gaming... Right now, I only have a 9800gt =.= I should have got a c2q and a gtx 280 =P

As of today Intel is the best choice, AMD gotta get something going. I have to experiment more with AMD but Intel seems so much safer

I've just purchased a computer with an AMD processor and it's working fine! I have no complaints. I've even played games and it's still good. I'm not sure about the long run yet, but I'll get to that when I get there. xD
