Hum actually we haven't seen negi fighting in shipudden while shikamaru already shown his ability against hidan

so i don't know but negi may be stronger then him however shikamaru can find a way to defeat him with difficultes i think

Man I like your thought process Leiram, because it akes alot of sense. And you back it up with things that happened in the show or manga whatever came first lol.

But lets think on terms that the shadow requires chakra to be used, if Neji cuts it the shadow os no longer extendable or at least its reach is cut down. Im not trying to shoot anyones idea down here lol so dont attack me haha. But I would still go with Neji because he too knows what Shikamaru is capable of. The only advantage I think Shikamaru has is the Byakugan blind spot.

Also to kinda clear that up with the whole thing with Shikamaru rescue Sasuke mission, he really didnt pick these guys to stay back and fight. They kinda just said "Forget the mission, Im fighting this guy to bide you more time." Shikamaru really didnt have any say so.

In my opinion, Shikamaru will win. I see lots of reasons why. Shikamaru is the type of person who adapts to his oponent quickly (Contrary to this, is his fight with Tayuya) Shikamaru know Neji for quite some time, thus Shikamaru knows what Neji can do. He was the team leader of the "Rescue Sasuke" episodes. And he was able to determine what job is best for each member. (Even though most of them got beaten up, all survived but nearly died) I some scenes or battle, Shikamaru shown one great weakness... which is shear power. He is unable to bind Tayuya (when she used Cursed Seal) and the part when he is up against "some ninjas" and saved by Asuna. Neji is a speed/technique type of user thus he will not be able to free himself like the other's. He *can* however use his Chakra cutting ability if Shikamaru manages to bind him. There is a law that "Chakra can cut chakra". (to be continued) I'll get back at this (promise) its time for work. This is my first post and its not an intro, I'll do that later

Contrary to my post of Shikamaru winning (We had a discussion of this with our group) Since Shikamaru's techniques contain chakra...
Here are points of interest.
• Shadows does not have physical form (they are merely abscence of light)
• Shikamaru provides chakra to give his shadow a solidity.
• Neji can produce chakra cutters from any opening of his body (shown in his battle against Kidoumaru) which "can" disable Shikamaru's ability to bind Neji
If that's the case then Shikamaru will only use his wits and trap to beat Neji.

Let's not forget that the battlefield also play's a great role for Shikamaru.

My opinion is that Shikamaru would win.

Reasons, he is more adaptable then Neji is, but Neji is a genius we have to take that into consideration.

Even so i still think Shika would win, since he is smart as heck, and would eventually figure out a way to beat him.

Man who cares, they are both unique ninjas with unique abilities. Shikamaru is definitely a strategist, but one thing I can say is, that he has improved his physical combat abilities as well. His Shadow binding technique has become stronger and more effective. Of course he does not have any overwhelming super powers, but... he is unique in his own ways..

I would suggest to close such threads talking about character's comparisons...

It is very difficult shikamaru neji is good but it takes ténica so I never thought I would be inclined to neji but surprisingly

I think there are honestly some gut points. However shikamaru is quite good thinking on his feet but becomes an A class ninja when he has time. Unfortunately this fight would be a one shot and I believe neji would win. Shika is very much a person who still needs to focus when he fights so any distraction or evasion helps him. But as you all know neji sight extends to a 1000 m and any smoke screen or the like wont be a suitable distraction. As well as the byakugan being able to see chakra and im sure rotation could defeat any attacks shikamaru has from all angles.

Don't get me wrong i dont think it would be an easy fight for neji but shikamaru has shown that his best strategies are ones when he is given time. Against neji who could easily defend and attack at the same time and can see through most techniques with his eyes its only a question to me at least of how long shika can distract him before neji finds and dominates him with his superior taijutsu.
