they are the company who did Evangelion and Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou. But for some reason they keep running low on funds. But they dont stop the series while they aquire more funds they just make cheap epasodes and it realy pissed me of with Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou. It wasnt so bad with Evangelion because i think the Episodes that showed inside shinjus head were needed, even the one with all the different white lines talking to each other. But in Kareshi Kanojo no Jijou they had some Episodes that were half some random narrators talking weird over a bunch of black and white photos of streets and walls and things and then just when you think its over and the story and animation has returned its just sketches of the characters and the narrators are STILL TALKING CRAP! then the sketches start talking but in speech bubbles so i cant read them because i cant read japanese! and the Narrators are still talking anyway. Does anyone else remember this Episode, and where they completely enraged to the point where they wanted to throw their Tv at the CEO or Ginax? bacause i was!

The EDIT button is spelt as E.D.I.T. for a reason. =\

Unfortunately as far as I know, that happens to be that particular directors style. Both animes were directed by Hideaki Anno.

I'm pretty sure that they did not run over on the budget for Kare Kano. Anno just enjoys messing with your head. For Eva they went overbudget about halfway through. Instrumentality was a pretty terrible ending, but I can't say that End of Evangelion was much better.
If you're asking what's wrong with Gainax, watch Ebichu the House Keeping Hamster.

Well, I'm not too sure about recent works but the last one I did watch from the company was "The beautiful and Ugly world" or "Konoko miniku Utsukshi Sekai" if I remembered the correct japanse....Anyways, other then that they have kinda fallen off my anime radar which is usually hard to do...

Gainax are bunch of Otakus gathered together. No wonder they run low on fund: they want perfection, and they may not aim for commercial/popular works.
I heard that anno left Gainax. Is this true?

I don't know well about Gainax, but I really like NGE and Kare Kano too. But both two endings are so poor, it ruined the hard work of entire series

gainax is doing like...only comedy now...what happend to eva-like style. well i hope they'll show us something worthy soon. :(

Hmm i agree they hit us with eva then ****off for a while. And come back with Comedys, which doesnt realy suit them. i Mean anime like Eva just lends itself to their style thats why i was so annoyed about all the whako images over and over. Maybe hws21c is right and Anno left and the new guy (whoever he might be) favours comedy and romance.
I havnt seen all of Kare Kano but that episode made me sooooo angry and annoyed. I was a big fan up until then (i mean i still am but eeeeh its just so annoying). How long does Kare Kano go for because i ve seen up to 26 and i cant find past that in australia.

Anno left Gainax when running kare kano.
There are only 26 eps of Kare Kano. Anno left on episode 16. You have to read the manga if you want to know how it ends.
The end of Evangelion is clear: Third Impact, everybody dies but Eva pilots. That was because of Shinji's decision. End.
Gainax did Furi Kuri too, that's good stuff. And Abenobashi. I hope they will surprise me with something good soon.

Considering that Eva left them almost in bankrupt I'm pretty sure they want to play on safe-ground for a while...
I think Evangelion's series ending was mostly correct; it had a mind-perspective, something that 99.9% of TV watchers don't like -to think-. But everybody thought the movie was better (of course, it has better animation and blood and eva-fights...), when in reality what Hideaki was showing different approaches of the same conclusion (aka the same ending as in the series). Although I tend to differ... the movies ending doesn't have that sweet final like episode 26...
And in the ending nobody dies, they just unite and go back to the primordial soup. Besides, Just like in Lilith, Adam and Eve's story, you have Shinji -Adam-, Asuka -possibly Lilith- and Rei -Eve-, so all in all they are the beginning of humanity all over again (you even have the red sea).

You haven't read the Karekano manga have you?! Please don't judge the series simply based on the anime alone. What you said about the paper and speech bubbles and stuff, they're all in the manga. In fact, I don't mind the producers trying to move the manga scenes directly to the anime--it suits Karekano's style. The ending was crappy because it wasn't meant to end at all, it's just the original manga author of Karekano and the producers had some argument about what approach Karekano should take--I think the author wanted a more serious approach like the latter half of the manga, while the anime producers wanted a more light-hearted one--and so they ended the series early, with an unfulfilled ending. But despite that, I think the style is pretty unique in anime, and I don't believe that was purely due to lack of funds.
As for eva...same thing, I don't believe they ended it like that due to lack of funds. I really like epi.25 and 26, because they were actually thought provoking...the movie was more "exciting" but lacks the happy ending, which I feel rather depressed for...so yeah, with EVA that popular, they couldn't have been running low on funds enough to end it inappropriately.

I was disappointed at the anime karekano ending. They cut short in the middle of everything. Nothing was really resolved. Everyone who had no access to karekano maga(like me) were left hanging. That was frustrating. FLCL was a very interesting anime though. Takes some thinking though to actually figure ouy what's going on, but it was a good anime.

una de las mejores es sin duda Elfen Lied, Akira, trinity blood

The Karekano anime does a great job literally "animating" the manga, although a little more movement would be great... the first four episodes have more animation than the rest of the other 24 eps. The anime ending was made like that on purpose, because the manga didn't end (and doesn't plan too, as far as I know). Personally I would love more seasons, although is unlikely to happen; most anime from Gainax tend to end by the twenty-something episode.

The Karekano manga has officially ended some months ago at vol.21, so for those who are frustrated with the anime ending, do go and read the manga if you have the chance--don't worry, the manga actually gives resolution to everything ^^ and a very nice ending indeed, I must say.
There won't be more Karekano anime seasons, at least not from Gainax -_- I haven't really been following their series (since I don't pay attention to the production company's name unless i really like the anime itself), but from what I've seen (eva and karekano), they're...unusual, that's for sure.

I heard that anno left Gainax. Is this true?
Not true. Neon Genesis Evangelion was begun as commercial venture for Bandai and other model toy companies.
What I don't get is... who cares about getting low on funds? If it cost you X amount of money to make it, sell it for the price according to the cost.
But you see, they can't because it was already planned ahead.
Yeah but Gainax... I hate the last 2 series 25, and 26 of NGE. Also, Gainax is continually milking NGE.
They introduced countless editions of the NGE movies although they are the same things. 1 of the movies is just a summary of the previous 24 episodes.

There are a number of rumors surrounding the endings to both series.
Evangelion was Anno's release for his bout of depression. That period of his life heavily influenced how the story in Evangelion took shape, including the ending. I don't think the story of them running out of money here is true; I'm pretty sure the last two episodes were true to Anno's original vision.
Which brings up the End of Evangelion movie. The story (that I heard) behind that is the mass fan outrage over the ending of the TV series causes Anno and Gainax to go back and make a "proper" ending, though admittedly Anno did this out of spite, which is why, well, it ended the way it did. :P Total hatred for humanity.
Concerning Kare Kano, there are a couple of stories. One is that Gainax was running low on cash; something about owed taxes. This would be the reason behind the "creative" animation shortcuts and numerous recap episodes in the latter half of the show. It ended the way it did simply because there was no more manga to animate. The other side of the story is the mangaka for Kare Kano was extremely upset with how the anime was taking shape, and moaned about it quite a bit in Anno's ear, which caused him to just up and ditch the project. The mangaka would never let Gainax handle her work again.
And yes it's true that Anno has been gone from Gainax a number of years. He currently focuses on live action properties, though he still does a few things for Gainax every now and then.

I heard the same rumours about both of those series. Apparently according to some fan site I was reading in an attempt to decode NGE's ending Anno was almost suicidally depressed towards the end of the series - not my words the words of the site I was reading-. But still managed to pull off an ending why didn't the same happen for KareKano, which happens to be a favourite of mine. Only the anime had been released in Australia and you have to go on-line to find the manga. hehehe, spoiler *cough* *not* the play is really good :)
I'm glad that other people were annoyed with the animation of this great series, my complete turn off point was the cardboard cut outs flying through the air somewhere after episode 20 I think. Honestly they could have made it a nicely paced 12+ episode series if they cut out all the recaps and introductions - I think the audience can remember the last episode they watched, we're not stupid.
6 years, 1 week ago
Is not even the cardboard effect, but if you notice a lot of episodes can be considered panels directly from the manga (bubbles included) with little or no movement. I hate to say some flash animations have more movement. Even so, the anime is so good it even hooked my cousin who hates anime (she says it's diabolic, perverted and evil stuff), but that's the first 4 episodes I showed her.
Thanks for the info about the karekano manga Shirahime, at least I know someday we'll be able to read the ending in english (the licensed version is already in volume 18-19 ^^) .
About Evangelion's ending: I also read that Hideaki Anno really meant for it to be that way, and fed up with the fans whines he made up the movie.
Death and Rebirth: the two parts of the entire movie The end of Evangelion: THE movie. Selling us both versions is quite sleazy of them, since they are the same darned thing =_=... but that's what they offer, and that's what the fans want. I think it went a bit overdrive when they started selling the models base on the kinky game ^^U (talk about squeezing the cow's milk)
