Subs is the way for me. I just can't stand them talking english in anime.

Japanese with subtitles would certainly be the best way to go, although sometimes the English version could work as well. I'm pretty much split right now. Neutral.

i wouldn't go near a dub, no thanks to scarred experiences as a child watching badly dubbed anime on tv. initially made me dislike anime, having unable to comprehend the incongruity of an american accent on asian cartoon. and they sometimes go waaay off in depicting a character as opposed to their original counterparts

i really dont care.....if it has subbs (when its in japnese) then i dont care.....but japnese is proubably better...cuz they change wut they say when its in english tho so yah...[]-(-_-)(XD)

i just gotta watch it in japanese.. well, im no japanese, but it helps alot, u even get to learn sum words, phrases, and stuff.. i dunno if its only me or anything, but i think its really nice.. the voice is way cuter (way cooler) too..(9+_+)

I watch it in Japanese, but sometimes I play it in English when my nephews/nieces want to watch it, especially on Azumanga Daioh, they love that anime ^_^

Definitely Japaneses! Thank goodness for FANSUBS!!! Please don't get me wrong, not that the dubbed ones are bad but somehow things get a little lost in translations, i have tried watching quite a few series in both languages(either in english or chinese) but somehow the jap ones always has a little something extra that a lot dubbed ones seemed to lack. While of course even with subs, you can never get 100% pure perfection but it is close enough for me.

Subbed... definitely subbed. I've tried watching dubbed anime both on animax and on some dvds I've bought as well as the locally dubbed series and all I can say is that the dubs don't do the anime justice. Somehow, they just don't get it right. Dubbers, I suppose just aren't as dedicated. I mean, the seiyu industry in japan is huge. They even have schools that teach the trade. The people who do this are professionals. The english dubbing community just hasn't caught up.

I only like the japanese verison with english subs sinc I don't like the americanized voices in dubs, I can't get my head to get it to sound right. And I have always been a fan of original things, it is the same when reading books I prefer reading an english book in english instead of translated.

El manga se sigue editando en Japón desde 1997 y lleva editados un total de 48 tankōbons (volúmenes recopilatorios) a finales de septiembre, mientras que el anime se transmite desde 1999 y cuenta con 343 episodios hasta la fecha.

Cabe destacar la gran aceptación japonesa respecto a esta serie, ya que el tomo 24 del manga ha conseguido el récord de mayor número de ventas de la historia del manga en la primera tirada, superando al récord que mantenía los tomos 21 y 23 de Slam Dunk. También cabe contar que por parte de la versión animada existen 8 películas emitidas y 4 especiales de TV de una hora cada uno.

Editado en papel, aparte de los tomos recopilatorios, podemos encontrar 3 art-books (libros de ilustraciones) sobre el manga (Color Walk 1, Color Walk 2 y Color Walk 3 LION), 3 guías del manga (Red Grand Character, Blue Grand Data File y Yellow Grand Elements) y 13 novelas que narran las partes del argumento exclusivas del anime (no relatadas en el manga), aparte de múltiples dōjinshis escritos por aficionados a la serie, algunos de larga extensión.

I watch anime in both English and Japanese, but I prefer the Japanese versions better because most anime in English aren't that great and it's so much better in the original. But since I don't speak Japanese, I have to have subtitles.

The Japanese voicetrack is (emphasis) usually ample times better than the English version. As with all things, it's not entirely black and white. Ghost in the Shell had a pretty good dub, and the Vampire Hunter D movie was excellent (though, the English version here was made before the Japanese). However, what needs to be kept into account is that while Japanese anime seiyuu have more of a tendency to be really popular, stars, etc. On the other hand, anyone and their mother (exaggeration, but you get my point) can be an English dub VA if they show reasonable talent at the appropriate place. (ie, you don't see Johnny Depp taking any roles in anime, and you probably never will)

WEll,I prefer subbed version where the voice were still real Japanese,with an english subtitle.I don't know,but hearing the voice of the real voice actor makes the show far more fun to watch then watching that of a dubbed version where the voice is already changed.For some people,there was this strange feeling in which they don't feel comfortable or can't enjoy an anime if they voice were not that of the original voice actor.Like Sumeraji above stated,they just like to hear the Japanese voice,and in their opinion changing the voice kills the entire show.

Although sometimes,people might chosee sub over dub because the voice actor in the dubbed version aren't really fitting for the role they're voicing as.For example,the voice actor of Suzumiya Haruhi in a certain dubbed version,cannot match that of real Aya Hirano,and it feels like thats not Haruhi at all.

You do realize that all Sumeraji is doing is repeating a post I wrote down back on page 3, right? He's done this three times now and its kinda getting anyoying. Anyways the original purpose of the post wasn't to say that voice changes kill a show but to illustrate that there are those who would rather watch a Japanese sub, even in bad quality, than in a language that they hear everyday. And by quality I mean everything from translations to actual voicing being both good or bad. I have heard bad Japanese voicing but when I pointed it out to someone they couldn't tell. One example is on Ruruoni Kenshin. In one episode, despite the clearly angry facial expressions, in the Japanese audio, the actor for Kaoru was speaking in an almost monotone voice. Even closing my eyes and ignoring the face I could not at all hear the anger she was "Supposedly" having. Yet there are people out there that believe this kind of low-level acting ranked is "superior" for some reason. Go figure.

I've never understood the notion that voices need to fit a character. It's like telling a professional live action actor "You're acting is the best but...I just don't like your voice so we wont use you." While people can try to change their voices somewhat in the end they can't help having the voices they are born with. Should they automatically not become an actor just because some people "don't like their voice"?

@ sandumirabela: Before I make any farther comments on your post back on page 10 I need to ask first. Are all the dubs you watched and compared the network broadcasts and not the straight to dvd anime? I know the Saloir Moon episode was a network broadcast (there is no unedited dub of the first season) But I was wondering if all the dubs you referred to were also the network televised broadcasts as well.

Although I understand only a little japanese (the subtitled versions helped a lot!), I still prefer the japanese dubbed versions since it gives this more authentic feel to it.. We'll its just my opinion so I respect those guys who prefer the english dubbed version since clearly is easier to view since you don't have to read the subtitles and enjoy the anime at the same time. |(n_n)|

i totally agree w/ hugs08 ... when I watch the subbed version,I really believe the emotions heard from the voice actors. In English version, they tend to over react and thus ruining certain moments.

The only anime that I that have a superb English version, maybe even better than the subbed one, is Full Metal Alchemist. Kudos to Vic Mignogna as Edward Elric.

Of course on Japan seiyuu and english subtitle, because the character voice is has more "Taste" when some japanesse do it... I don't know why, maybe is just don't suitable, the character with english voice, sometimes it's weird. But I had watch that some anime is more great on english voice.

i actually like to do both for many reasons. For watching the subs, yeah it fantastic to watch them in their intact way with the original emotions and storyline. Plus the voices are heaps good as well. Dubs though, except for the really bad ones, i watch too so i can see it in my own language, so i don't have to always read the subtitles. Plus my sister, who is the only person that i know that wants to watch anime with me, will watch it in.

Also, you get the most out of your anime DVDS.(9+_+)i actually like to do both for many reasons.
