G'Day,
I was just curious about this `papers' system. I have read the Papers Guide, and have a couple of questions about it; I wanted to avoid opening a new topic on this, but I could not find anywhere to piggyback it.
Firstly, I was curious just how many papers a wallpaper costs --- the guide gives a clear example of a scan, but not a wallpaper.
Secondly, do you automatically gain paper over time? I have only just read about the system today, but have been using this site for longer than that; sometimes I have not been able to get a wallpaper, but I just try again later.
Finally, the Wallpaper Guide says that limited members can download 15 wallpapers/day: is this obsolete information now that we have the paper system?
Thanks for your patience.

Read the guide. CAREFULLY. It's all there.

Perhaps I am simply stupid, but I definitely do not see any of those three points in the Papers Guide; certainly the third would not be in there, as it is not directly related to papers (or at least I do not think it does --- I could be wrong).

1) Wallpapers are free. Of course if you do not participate in the forum, doesn't matter if you've been at AP since the Stone Age, the system will automatically detect you as a "leecher" and thus, does not allow you to download any wallpapers.
2) No, you do not gain papers over time. It is clearly stated in the Guide. You only gain papers by posting in the forum, submitting a scan/wallpaper if it gets approved, and commenting on others' wallpapers.
3) That system still works. You are allowed to download 15 a day (and I mean exactly 24 hours), that is, if you participate in the forums. If you don't and you're a leech, the 15/day doesn't apply to you because you can't download wallpapers at all.

Thanks for the reply, as it clears things up a bit.
The answers to two and three suggests to me that there must be a bug in the script then. I get 0-2 wallpapers a day: even after the papers system came in, and without using the forum, I could get a wallpaper. If I were told I had no credit, then I would just wait until the next day to get the one I wanted.

Your activity is low, but low enough to trigger the leecher limit. And 1 or 2 walls a day is probably just the number you actually see - if you're clicking on walls and getting the 'can't view it' message, then that's why - it counts the number of times you click in 24hrs, not the number you actually managed to view.
I'd suggest reading every section of the guide fully - everything you've asked really is covered in there.
