most of the bums on the streets are mental health patients that have been thrown out of the hospitals due to budget cuts. Yeah I feel sorry for them because they havent got a chance and they dont have their med and are usually brutalized on the streets.

Most of the bums on the street are too lazy to get a real job. So no, I don't feel sorry for them at all. I think that most of them chose to be where they are, or they're too lazy to do anything...so they end up with a bad situation. Most of them have no one to blame but themselves.

No, I mean why should I? I had nothing to do with their lives.

Most of the bums on the street are too lazy to get a real job. Where have I heard this before? It was something like "The poor peasants deserve to be poor because that is the role of the peasants." Then there are the corporate chiefs who think that they deserve only the best, thus there is no room for lowly dirtbags like the poorest of the poor... What I mean with this is that not all people have the means to get a "real", well paid job. In fact, to get stuck to no-career jobs requires you only to skip the expensive university grades, usually affordable only by the richer people in western countries.

This to say that not all bums deserve it, but then there are a lot who do. I have seen people who did not know when to stop drinking or heed the advice of not testing drugs. Then there are the people who simply see no way out or can't take it (missing quality, missing charisma, missing wits, missing life, missing everything). What should they do: look and look and look for a real job that doesn't exist? That's BS and many people know this. That is why nordic countries like Finland, Sweden, and Dennmark have a social security system when compared to a place like US. This way no one needs to fear for his daily bread and although this is expensive, it's one of the few things that I would be glad to pay.

Most bums are either mentally ill, or have addictioon problems. Alot of the young kids on the streets are run aways from abusive homes. But then there is always a few scammers. Thats why in the summer, you see like four times as many teenagers begging. Where are they when the weather is bad? In the suburbs playing video games. We need to help the people who are really in need, and get rid of the scammers.

some choose to live that way... like i said about two weeks ago... my dad went all over tucson and asked every bum to work for him as a roofer at 14 an hour. Non said yes and all said "they made more money beggin"

i think bums who choose to beg absolutely do... they are adults .. they made the choice... let them live with their choice.

now those who are homeless for other reason.. should get off their mat, get into a shelter for a short time, get a job and make their way up rather than say "woh is me"

It depends on the bums. Some of them simply can't manage...They may be from the countryside and don't understand enough about city life to live normally and well enough in urban centers. Some of them can't live normal lives because, as $sabella mentioned, they're insane and have no one else to look after them. These are the bums who don't deserve their lives on the streets. Others really are too lazy to get a job. Now, these are the people who deserve to live on the streets. Too lazy to get a job or work, so they brought it down on themselves. It's kind of sad, really.

I can't say that all bums deserve to be where they are. it alll goes back to family life. I read a article for some street kids that are on the road because their parents either could not care for them or they where abused at home and had nowhere to go and no one to turn to. Sometimes it takes so muich out of you to look at them and walk away. I think the key thing is that if you really want to help them give them food, clothes. NOT MONEY. If they want money and not whatever else you are offering them then you know they don't want to helped really they just want to live off others.

It sucks you cant tell the difference from a bum thats out on the streets due to circumstances not fully under their control, or lazy bums that are just out there to get extra cash. There are alot of con-artists out there, even people that dress up AS bums to get more money.

A good way to tell them apart, tell a random bum you'll meet them at McDonalds and buy them a meal. If they accept and appear very grateful, you've probably just brightened up a poor person's day, if they say "just give me the money", leave =P I feel I cant really be sorry for them unless I know that they're really poor or just poor because they're so friggen lazy.

I feel sorry for female bums because its harder for them to go places and its more easier for them to be assaulted by men. Especailly a female bum with children.

Male bums i don't really care because most were/are idiots whilst growing up and made bad choices by not studying....

Its hard for us to do anything though...unless we were supa doopa rich and made an organisation for particular bums

^Actually, female bums have it easy especially if they are good looking. In fact, I doubt a good looking woman could ever become a "bum" when she can earn something like 50 bucks of 15 minute BJ. How much did a regular guy earn in a day again? 50 bucks.

And, of course, they can always just hook up a with a gullible enough person to have all the bills paid for her. Something almost every woman does, by the way. ;)

The only bums I like are the Japs living in communes. They're clean, presentable, and choose this lifestyle as a form of rejecting materialism for the most part. They don't beg for money or anything, but do with what they can do for a living, minus the housing. Theres even a trend of white-colar workers living in the same lifestyle: living in a cardboard box. They sleep in them at night and come morning, shower in the public bath and go straight to work. I despise "professional" beggars.

It really depends on their reasons for being a bum. If they choose to be a bum and become a burden to society, of course I wouldn't feel sorry for them. But for those who didn't have a choice, that's who I feel sorry for.
