I personally like the fact that it has TWO parts to it's name. NORTH. DAKOTA. It's like it has a somewhat human quality to it. Also there is it's brother/sister state...South Dakota. What other state has an accompanying state?? Well I'm new here so I thought a little bit of the 'ol SaguraKirux randomness should help me meet new people and start an interesting topic.
*Please Note* I am not in anyway making fun of or dissing either of the Dakotas. Just looking for some random opinion. And my pet emue Gertrude...here Gertrude...c'mere girl...where are you Gertrude...time for snacks and alcohol...

I went to North Dakota one summer--Grand Forks for an aerospace program at the University of North Dakota. The only thing I hated was the drive up there--imagine driving from Tennessee, all the way up to within 50 miles of Canada. It was around 67 degrees in the morning--in June, so that was pretty nice, except there were a crapload of mosquitoes, and it was very windy. One very odd thing about it, was that the sun didn't set until around 11-11:30 PM. I would definately hate it there in the winter though.

Hey, a topic I'm qualified to post on =P
_ Good stuff _
* Georgeous Summer - Hot enough to go swimming, but not humid to make it disgusting. Nights cool off to a perfect 65 degrees (F) * Neglagible crime rate (homicide went up about 1000% one year tho) * People still friendly enough to wave to you on country roads even if they have no clue who you are * Clean air!
_ Bad stuff _ * Winters are ... severe * Very bad job market
_ Interesting Facts _ * First state to issue weapons permit to a blind man * Don't have to register to vote * Comic Junction (Fargo) is an awsome place to rent anime ^^
Depends on what you mean by "accompanying state" The Dakota Territory was split into North Dakota, South Dakota, and Montana. Other states have accompanying names - Virgina, Carolina. Some states have also had splits like Pennsylvania but they don't have similar names.

wow. . . just. . . that's all I can say. . . wow.
Like my home state, Tennessee. It was split into Tennessee and North Carolina. Can't remember whether the original was called Tennessee or Carolina though.
