Well to start off, I simply open PhotoShop and click new, change it to the size I think I want and begin creating. Do you guy's do any thing different?

This wallpaper deserves to be highlighted because of many reasons:
The fence looks so real and detailled that you can almost touch it. In many cases, wallers copy and paste similiar objects of the background (e.g. flowers). But this fence looks like it has been drawn stroke by stroke.
The colours and combination of highlights and shadows create a dark and mysterious atmosphere which suits the manga perfectly. I'm glad dolce-yasmin didn't stick to the original colours which wouldn't be as effective as the brown tone.
Not to forget the vector itself which is not only a huge improvement of the original scan, but also shows you dolce-yasmin's improvement of her vectoring skills!

doesn't any one else have some thing to say on this topic?

Well, I usually think of it in my head and when I get a big idea, I start sketching. Then if I need touch ups, I'll scan it afterwards. A lot of times, the sketch turns out bad though.

well, for me, it is like yours really.
I tend not to think about how the wall will come out first, so if you can check my harddrive, I have a bunch of PNG transparencies that are semi-extracted scans from various sources, I will test what sort of texture I wanna use for a wall, and tend to change as time goes to see where I can fit the charaacter in.
Mostly, the wallpapers that are made by me are simply attempts where there is no idea, it is a wallpaper made to appeal to myself, as long as it looks good to the eyes, I would usually not care less about the theme, or whatsoever...
which could explain why my wallpapers are so bleh.
On other occasions, my art pieces as you will call it, tend to be of a limited theme, say... food, so I will look for the most desirable picture, and then use it, for me, vectoring tends to take away the whole feeling of pictures especially painted ones, so I tend to make walls and follow the color of the characters for the idea of how the wallpaper may come up to be.

hmm.. well mine comes from any inspiration I have. I might be on the net, see a great pic, then get a great idea that goes from that. From there I just see what fits. Some times it's also because when I have a theme to go by.

My art pieces come from my music. Either music or just emotions inside of me. Whenever i hear certain music i get into the mood of expressing it in a picturesque form. I can't use photoshop so i just draw that mofo out with my sketch kit and color it later...oldschool style
(so far my art sucks, I'm taking classes in High School for both Electronic Music and Art courses, but they are sort of empty since people tend to look at more practical things nowadays. Sorta sad really. Nobody cares for creative classes anymore, same goes for really interesting classes like Web Design, and Computer Electronics...People just tend to go for classes like Marketing and Advertising. Only computer classes that people take are Computer Science and Technical Drafting, both software based. Comp-Sci is more for math geeks though.)
my ver 2.49 cents :D

Depends on what are you trying to draw. Sometimes i start on whatever the image i see the clearest in my head so i can draw it well or Other times i would start the hard part so i would not make the rest of my picture all weirded out._(._.)_

if you search closely on the net there are plenty of art softwares that are available.
Photoshop is the most mainstream and CS3 version has just came out, the latest most ram consuming for Vista, and also the most awesome in effect.
Gimp is free and can be downloaded.
There is also Illustrator which Vectorers claim to be perfect for vectors. Running in line is Corel Draw, Macromedia (for animation mainly), and many others.
Most of them have a particularly special function, and photoshop is mainstream because it can do almost everything in quite sufficient ease.

For wallpapers i usually have a general idea how i want it to turn out but it often occurs that my fingers take control and i end up forgettin my original idea ;)
Fer avatars, i jes open the picture, start cropping and brushing until i feel satisfied.
For linearts that i color, i usually sit and stare at the lineart and debate about what colors i should pick, what angle the lighting should be, the background colors/effects etc.

Art is not necessarily related to photosoft. Real art is made by human hand or nature. For me, starting a new piece of art depends on what kind of art I'm doing. If it's drawing, the first thing I do is thinking what I will draw and then take out a bunch of blank paper, a pencil and an eraser. If it's painting, I also think about the idea first, but since painting is hard to control than drawing, I would start practice to paint on white paper first. I also do origami, but origami needs instruction so the first thing will be searching on the Internet.
