i always think to myself if all the things we do for our planet really will change the world. i mean, don't get me wrong, but it's obvious that you want to fix a problem that started like a hundred years ago, it's pretty much a battle lost. however, i just follow the regular standards, like putting the trash in the respective container (it's funny, because in my college, if you put for instance a plastic bottle in the can container, your friends start yelling at you, i guess many people is in favor of this), i shut down the light if i'm not using it and stuff. Just, how well do you think we can do in this battle?

just for the record, i'm not the pessimistic type, just want the opinion from others, but personally, i think this is not looking good...

well you can't do anything about it,cause you just one individual and the things you do won't effect other people's behavior but if a group of people are trying to change the world, that could effect some people, but not on a large scale.we're not doomed by the way,the people will notice at some point the planet is getting worse(maybe an acid rain will help people notice).it's a good question you asked,I think people might be interested in this question.

so you say, it's not worth it doing this one by one i also think that, but you know, all the things start wth an idea, and if no one have this idea, and the will to proceed to make it happen, then it won't never see the light... maybe i think it is not enough one people, but i like to think so :)

If we discovered how to change energy into matter like from star trek, we could cool the earth and reduce global warming. IT CANNOT FAIL!

I think that something is possible. For instance, there are people that start to use sun, water and wind energy, there are electric cars and there are small things that we can do that means a lot, like putting the trush on the right places, respect nature and most of all respect ourselves.

it have to be a phenomena. all those energy you saying is great but the cost is stopping those who want it. businessman is all about profit making. with this we will not make it. but hey who's abusing the earth resources ? we human. we change everything into paper money.......it have to be a phenomena where everyone, is aware everyone is willing to step out.

It is very sad to see people like phoenolf who has a pessimistic and totally hopeless sense of reality. Of course we can do something! We, in plural, is composed by a group of individuals. Many masses are moved by a single person (religion, politics, social groups), and with enough people a change IS possible.

The power of one cannot be underestimated, if a single person makes a change nothing will happen immediately, but with time other will learn and change too. I know that there's a big obstacle: the powerful people, those who make money destroying our environment and who'd never change. Powerful people has money to buy some souls, weapons to kill others and politics to suppress everyone else, but not for a long time.

You, as an individual, have the power to change everything, all you need is perseverance and time. If you are strong others will follow your actions, and then a "you" becomes "we". We can create consciousness, we can start a change. Of course a single person won't save the world, but we are social creatures, we join together under common interest and fight for common causes. If that's too hard, you can teach your children to do the right thing, and in some generations we'll see a change. The problem is we don't have that time.

Though we cant really do anything by ourselves as we are now but we can work together as a community to make things better. This doesn't mean that by not recycling one piece of recyclable trash is okay because the reason for recycling is to make sure things don't get any worse than it already is. Check out this site it tells u 100 ways that can keep the environment from getting any worse. 100 ways to help the environment

The power of one is only the start. If we work together and get more people. something may happen. but if it doesn't work out take it as a lesson learned? I just record the daily news and how the world is degrading day by day in my journal as a sign of how i lost all hope for the world, the government, the society itself and religion. The world is beyond saving, we can only discuss and have no action. that's how i say it.

We live in a cruel, cruel world. For most people the glass is half-empty. Unfortunately for us, it is human nature that causes us to always want more than what we have. I myself want to become an actor and you can imagine how I feel about that world.

We COULD fix whats going on but there isnt a lot of people doing it. We have so many ideas on how to save energy and nobody(it looks like it) really cares!

You could stop complaining. Get off the internet. Volunteer in some community service and make something of your life.

There is a simple answer.

We must do something in this world, after all is not to blame, we're hurting, I think the planet would be better without us in it ... We do much damage, they hurt everyone here, even though I recycle is that I hurt you, but I still try to redeem myself from that fact ... Although it is obvious that this is not going to save global warming and climate change, for good or bad but we will all get affected by this.

I'm under the impression we have to try. It is unreasonable to ask anything from others but you can control what you personally do, and hope others also live the ideal. When we die (and we all do), you want to go out thinking to yourself 'I did as much as I could'.

Check out this lyric: Carrie Underwood - Change

What's written in that lyric is an idea that I believe in. That every single thing you do mean something. Why? Because a bunch, a million, billion of small things that people do will pile up into a big thing, not only for the earth itself but also for all beings that live in it. Besides, some small simple things could be inspiration for others to start and join a movement. Real practices in our lives sure are a better way to set an example for others :]

Regards, Yuki

Edit: Regarding your question, there's a lot of things we can do for the planet. I believe that some people here have point it out. Starting for throwing the trash in its respective container to joining a real organization. I believe that there're a lot of people fighting and making changes for our beloved earth all around the world. What's important is to start doing it. Probably start from small things and start it now .

I usually am very optimistic, but when it comes to the planet... I can't make any promises at all. We are such fools... the majority gathered on the same side. Just look at us, our politics about governing a country, our society about "being nice to each other" and then putting skinny beauty models, all the stereotypes about our races, or how about all the nice news in every newspaper about how we kill, steal, betray each other, for money, status, power, whatever you can think of. Not to mention that we keep blaming each other for the outcome of this generation when we actually should remember who raised it this way. We expect everybody else to act but ourselves, we expect everybody else to change but ourselves, what for? it doesn't work that way. And I can promise you that if we keep on going this way, we will surely reach the bottom sooner than it perhaps was planned. We are our own worst enemy, destroying our own happiness, world. We keep searching for happiness as if it is a thing, a goal to be achieved. Do you think that money solves every problem? or having the highest status? being so skinny and having anorexia just to fit among all the models they professionally edit in photoshop so they will be infallible? what kind of messages do you think that all of these things bring ? We should cooperate with each other, but instead we fight against each other, we are all the same, what does it matter if we are black, pink or yellow skin-coloured? does skin-colour discern what kind of people we are? but then again, of course, it is difficult to be stupid... competition is huge!

I know that it's not what you would want to hear, and it's bad news for me too, I hate being aware of the fact that our world is like this, but it's the truth, and we are the ones behind it, which I'm not proud of but anyways.

Well, the only thing we can do for this world right now is.. Go Green! Don't waste papers, Tissue, Waters, Electricity Reduce plastics and metals usement Recycle what you can recycle Reuse Things you have (such plastic bags for shopping) Don't buy toys ,journals and notebooks, Make it your own! This will help our creativity, our pocket money, and save our planet! As for the manufacturer, use used products to make your own product. Don't throw away waste to river, lake or seas this will make fishes poisonous and dangerous to be eaten.

Do you know about the case happened around here? Hundreds of villager died because of eating fish that contain too much arsenic. thousands of them were sent to hospitals. That's because the fish lives in the seas that a factory throw away their waste to. and fishermen caught fish there , sold them to the villagers. Then the director of the factory was forced to close his business by the villagers.

So, Save our Planet, Go Green, Don't harm fish! (n_n)-b

One thing to understand about the world is that they have proven that in the past the Earth has gone through massive cooling moments and warming moments. It's not unusual for the Earth to have a "global warming". I think they've proven that the Earth has gone through 7 of these massive temperature changes from cold to hot being one change (or hot to cold).

The real question is: Are we, as people, helping speed up the process of this natural event? Yes, we are. Are there things we can do to help? Yep. We can recycle our electronics correctly, our cans and bottles correctly, conserve energy when we aren't using it, carpool so we aren't emitting so much of a footprint in regards to our carbon monoxide output.

Find out your footprint here: http://www.conservation.org/act/live_green/pages/ecofootprint.aspx

Mine is 56. :)

The thing we need to realize is that the Earth goes through these phases. It's natural. The world also wobbles on it's axis so the stars that we see now in the sky at night will not be the same stars they see years and years and years (hundreds? thousands?) in the future.

Personally I believe that there isn't anything we can do to stop the global warming since it's just a part of the Earth's life. If we were smarter on how we went about with the energy we use I'm sure it wouldn't be to the "extreme" measure people are making it out to be. A lot of people say that there may not be any point in trying to better your individual habits to conserve, but the reality of the matter it only takes one person to start it: you. If everyone shares the same opinion of, "I can make a difference by starting today" then we have a lot of people suddenly deciding to make a difference. But if everyone says, "Eh, what is one person gonna do?" nothing gets done.

we are humans . it is in our nature to act like this, plus it's pointless to try to change our way of living from one day to another.

But you know, we are getting better; it's not as bad as you think. Think about it...if you pick up a history book (out down that remote control and go to the library) things were a whole lot of worse centuries ago there were many things most nations have learned not to repeat- the hard way: inquisition human sacrifice mutilation as a payment or punishment complete oppression of women complete oppression of the non-white human races ethical cleansing prohibition of education to those who weren't part of royalty or the elite medieval torture chambers human guinea pigs for scientific studies (though, without this; modern medicine wouldn't exist) ....and many more...

I want to point though, that many of these practices are still being used in parts of our planet (those countries who haven't passed through the "learning process" that most occidental nations have passed, ending with WWII and the atrocities of the holocaust) but maybe in the future, we will learn not to repeat the mistakes of the past.

About the ecologic affair, I'm afraid nothing will change. Would you be able to give up to your lifestyle for a caveman-type of life in order to save this planet? The fact that you are using your computer is the proof that it will be harder than you thought.
