I'm not a girl, but survey after survey for the past decade have shown that women as a whole tend to really dislike full beards and/or mustaches. Five o'clock shadow is alright, but a full beard is a massive turnoff (according to surveys I've seen). Obviously women aren't monolithic in their likes and dislikes, but a majority are anti-facial hair, at least in the United States.

I wouldn't say most twenty somethings have beards and mustaches either; Most of my friends keep a five o'clock shadow going, and none of them have a full beard and 'stache.

I think it depends a lot on the person, that is, what kind of style a girl likes on guys. But it also depends if the facial hair suits the guy. I have seen guys that look really hot with facial hair, while others look very awful. If you have facial hair, be sure to make it look good, don't only let it grow, it's one thing to have hair, another thing to let it look awful.

I think it depends on the guy and how it looks. Sorry that's not too helpful but I think facial hair really suits some guys and just doesn't suit others. Personally I don't like it most of the time, only in rare cases. And it definitely must be short. I don't like it because it often makes guys look so much older than they are, guys often let it look scruffy and messy, and it's not so nice to kiss a guy with a prickly or fuzzy face. lol I'm from Australia btw and I think most guys in their 20's don't have facial hair here. If they do, it's hardly any.

It all really depends on whether or not it suits the guy, as well as on a girl's taste. Personally, I like stubble a lot. I don't know why, I just do.

I don't know. If it suits the guy then I would say it's okay. Various girls have different tastes though, so it's hard to say from one point of view. I personally don't mind, as long as it isn't a full on beard like Sammy mentioned. But, there are exceptions.

I'm not really for or against facial hair. If it looks good on you, then OK. If not, then I would want you to cut it off. And if you have facial hair TAKE CARE of it! Don't have crap in it because that would probably turn a woman off.

stubble is fine with me and even a goatee (especially if it suits you) but beards and or mustache's as a general are not a turn on for me :| I prefer a clean shaven face or a five o clock shadow

Well your right it's a yes and not kind of thing. Some guys just can't pull it off and some can. It depends on the guys facial structure, personality, and how course or soft the hair is. Normally I don't really mind. I think goatees are awesome, but it depends on the shape. Mustaches are ind of hit and miss with me. It's either really good or really bad, no in between. My dad finally grew a mustache and it suits him really well. It's thin an just goes to the edges of his mouth. Some times he grows a full on goatee but accidentally shaves on side off. and then we remind him he has half a mustache. it's rather funny.

In the end though it's about upkeep and cleanliness. Out here guys are dirt monkeys and so if they don't shave you had better think twice.

I'd quote a number of the above posts, but there are too many - yes, facial hair suits some guys. BUT my yay-or-nay opinion is: even if it suits said guy, I still don't like it. I prefer looking at clean-shaven faces.

i personally hate facial hair on a guy >.< sry to say....everytime my bf starts getting lazy on the shaving i beg him to get rid of his lil mustache. idk, it could be becuase when i try to kiss him it either stabs my face or feels rly weird. plus i just think most guys look way better without it.

It's not that I don't like a guy with facial hair but I like a guy more without those thick line of Mustache and heavy beard. Well it's very important for a guy to take care of his facial hair other wise it make them look unclean (at least to me). Beard & Mustache actually look good on some guys if they cut it in a well style manner. But me personally like those more without any facial hair. At least it shows that they do care for their face too ha! ha!

I think that women prefere shaved men. Not a "bear" or something. Just like us.

I'm a guy, but I wanted to add a couple things. Well, first, I think this is largely a cultural issue. I think facial hair, especially heavy facial hair isn't generally big in U.S. culture but I bet you find a very different distribution of opinions if you were to go to, say, the middle east. But I think this also applies in different areas of the U.S. I wouldn't be surprised if mustaches were quite a bit more common in the south than they are in, say, New England. The OP says "as most early 20's american guys do" but it's probably a bit more common WHERE HE LIVES than it is for the U.S. overall. I wonder if heavy facial hair might be in disfavor in the U.S. because it might be associated with vagrancy...? That came to mind while reading this thread. I think where it's more common that commonness will likely be self-sustaining as girls who grow up with father's who have mustaches or beards are more likely to be attracted to men who have them. So if you are in an area where they are more common then heck why not give it a shot for a while.

Also, facial structure can come into play here. Sometimes, if a guy has, for example, kind of a small or under-emphasized chin he might look quite a bit more striking and carry more a presence with a fuller beard.

Wow, I didn't think I could have so many opinions on beards.

Seeing as I am in my teens, facial hair isn't really on top of my list when looking for guys to date. However, I do believe that it is kind of attractive as long as it's kept to a minimum. A stubble would be fine but a mustache and a beard is just not that attractive in my opinion. Of course, it depends whether you can pull it off or not and whether it's a weird-looking mustache/beard.

women love a manly man, and nothing is more masculine than some rugged facial hair. just find the right style~

Nope, facial hairs a no go for me personally. The clean shaven look is more attractive to me. Stubble can be cute.

Questions like these are reserved for men of confidence in self. no matter who you are, if you carry yourself proudly your own sense of fashion, let no one tell you how you should look. Facial hair is great.
