I agree, layouts are much² easier i.i BUT, I really like your wallpaper!!^^ Colours are nice and Lacus is very beautiful =3 *loves her* Font is the only thing I don't like .-.

I think because thats is your first wallie.. is very good.. you did it well anyway I think you should make some improvement on the background

This is really nice. :D Though I think the extra Lacus on the left in the background is kind of unnecessary...plus it's kind of out of place. I would suggest removing it. But...that's up to you. (have no say in person's life) Also, I would suggest something to spice it up a little. Maybe flower pedals on the background? Not big pink ones, but tiny white ones, kinds with no outlines and you can only see its white part glowing? (hope you know what on earth I'm talking about ^^;) OR you can use some other ideas of your own. That's it! This is a nice wall, and your avatar is totally cool, too, btw. ;D
