I've walled before but never submitted to AP, so I was wondering if I was up to par. This wall is of Jin from Samurai Champloo. I wanted to give it a kind of "film noir" feel, so I made it entirely in grayscale. It was originally in a 1280x800 resolution but resized to 1440x900 for the sake of AnimePaper. So, what's the verdict?

hi there... well this wall looks nice.. the main problem here is that it looks blurry... this could be because of the resize that you did... so i think the only solution is to vector the image.. also the yellow glow around the character doesn't look so good... maybe you can change it to a gray color... and soften it a bit cause it is too visible right now... goodluck!! kisses..

Never, never resize something from a smaller dimension to larger size. It really trashes the image quality, makes it blurry, that's why Clarings up there is complaining about the blurriness.
I've seen the original scan and indeed it is only large enough for 1280 width if you crop it. In which case I sould suggest exploring the possibility of vectoring it. Might sound a bit daunting especially since this is your first, but it'll be worth it 'cause you can then make it in much larger size. And since you're going for b/w, it won't be as hard as vectoring full color.

Wow. I didn't think anyone would reply that quickly. Okay-dokey, I took clarings advice and toned down the glow with a more grayish colour (thanks for the advice). And instead of vectoring the resized image, I took the original scan, vectored that and used that one instead in a document that was meant to be 1440x900.

mmm it still looks a bit blurry but better.. the glow around looks as a stroke instead of a glow... make it soften and less visible..
