This is my first anime wallpaper (second wallpaper overall, but my first one was an original work, so I can't upload it here). Started out as just a colorization of a doujin page I found, but I liked the image so much I wanted to make a wallpaper of it. The background image is just a fun image I made in photoshop a couple years ago by smudging an abstract image all to hell (it was originally pink).

I'm not sure if it's up to snuff for Anime Paper. But I'm just a beginner as far as wallpapers go (and only intermediate in photoshop). Any help on the matter, critiques, words of encouragement, or specific ideas/methods to improve it would be greatly appreciated.

And if someone would be willing/able to vector the original for me, I'd really appreciate it (and would be willing to redo the wall from scratch). My vectoring skills are not the greatest, so any help would be appreciated.

PNG format isn't accepted for wallpapers.

The colour palette used is questionable. The characters have been coloured with desaturated, pastel hues (red aside) whilst the background is a heavily saturated primary colour. Overall the polarity of these two schemes clashes. I'd suggest choosing one or the other.

Regarding the need to vector the characters; I've no idea why everyone insists everything must be vectored. Vector tracing a scan is a technique for rebuilding detail or scaling a scan. It doesn't make other methods of cleaning and extracting an image redundant and is not the best solution for every scenario. Seems to me people just get on the bandwagon. The scan from what I can see is clean and well extracted. There is no need to recreate it via vector tracing unless you intend to enlarge it beyond its native resolution.

We also have an "Original Anime Art" category in the wallpapers gallery that it appears you have overlooked. Perhaps if your first attempt fits the definition of original anime art, you could look at submitting it there.

Ah, thanks so much for the quick response. And yes, the request for vectoring was merely for scaling (and possibly getting the image completed so I don't have to leave the girls in the corner there).

I have one tiny question about the description of the colors you gave. What if one was, say, a bit color impaired? I'm slightly colorblind, and have trouble with shades of colors (mostly shades of red). Hence most of my color selections I run past my friends, but none of them are really into graphic design, they just like pretty pictures.

Honestly if anything I'd change the background. The colors I used for the characters I pulled from a screenshot from the game, so I don't want to fool with them too much (though I have considered just redoing the colors from scratch, if only because I do feel they're too blah). Especially the hair...God the hair bugs me. >< It also occurred to me that I hadn't done any kind of color highlighting or anything (this again goes to the color issues, I'm always afraid of messing something up).

If you have any recommendations for good tutorials for making backgrounds I would love to check them out.

You're right, I did overlook the original anime art section. I will take a look at it and if I feel my other wallpaper fits it I'll start a new topic here to show it.

Thanks again for the quick (and comprehensive) response. Also I'll be sure to use a jpeg next time. Thanks for the heads up.
