I own an original PS and a PS2, The gaming is off the hook! I've enjoyed it so much that I was looking forward to the launch of the PS3. Then I heard about this Blue Ray Crap!
Okay, High Definition Gaming. I do not own a High Definition TV set. Why not? Well, HD TV SUCKS! Currently only a fraction of all broadcasts are in HD, nothing I really watch on the regular.
The Current Crop of TV's SUCK!
Rear Projection is a Joke! The picture is washed out and you can only view the tv at certain angles.
Plasma TV's eat up too much electricity. Plasma TV's suffer from an aweful aging effect. The color becomes Blue over time.
LCD TV's do not show the Color Black as well as Cathode Ray Tubes. LCD's have this ugly tendency to burn in images. Think CNN, SCIFI or any other cable network with a permanent logo. The LOGO will eventually burn into the LCD if you spend most of your time on one channel. The same thing happens to video games. Life meters and scores that stay in corners will burn into your $2,000 LCD screen.
Back to Sony....
When you spend $499 for the low budget PS3 you do not get HD capabilities (it does not offer the video out HDMI port) but you are paying extra for a Blue Ray DVD player, an HD DVD player???????? OKAY, I pay $500 for a HD video game system that does not give me the port to view this HD craze???
When you spend $599 on the balla version you get the HD capabilities but you still have to drop around $60-100 for the cables and another $1500-2000 for the TV that hopefully comes with a HD tuner(Not all HD TV's offer HD tuners, most are really only HD ready. Read that you have to use a cable box or purchase a box for it in order to get HD signals).
Blue Ray DVD playback...
DVD's are fine, who the fluck asked sony to include HD DVD into my game system ??? Blue Ray (BR) DVD's cost more than traditional DVD's and only add extra colors and maybe more extras (as if we really watch the stuff included on them now??) They offer larger capacity but is anyone really complaining about the quality of DVD's currently? HELL NO!!!!! They basically enacted this because SONY is a MOVIE Studio and they want to make it harder for Bootleggers and you folks that copy DVD's.
This is Sony's way of forcing us to adopt another proprietary Sony memory format in the guise of a video game machine.
Sony's past failures:
Digital Rights management that infected millions of computers worldwide! Fluckin Idiots!
Remember Beta Max??? It lost to VHS
Ever Heard of Mini Disk? Dead on arrival!
ATRAC??? Got beat out by MP3 and that Ipod format
Memory Sticks? Compact Flash spanked it
Memory Stick DUO??? USB Flash Drives killed it!
UMD for PSP??? Dead as a fish out of water in the Sahara!
Are you noticing a trend yet? Sony just keeps on trying!!!!
Talk about Next Generation, seen the XBox 360? The graphics for that monster are absolutely Breath taking!!!! Oh, they offer HD but they do it on regular DVD format which offers dual layer disks, the kind you can get from Blockbuster or buy in any media store. For $299 for the Basic set or $399 for the Balla Package I can get the BEST system on the market, HD capabilities, online play, woreless controllers and a system that runs two Pentium 4's at the core and not have to replace all my DVD's my TV's and find myself spending over $650 for a system, wires and a game.
I think they've dug their own grave here. I won't buy myself or my nephew a $600 video game system for X-mas this year while spending $3 a gallon for gas.
I use to roll with Sony, until they pushed me too far! I really hate Microsoft and Nintendo has always been soft. This time around I think Nintendo and MS are the Best Bets in Town. MS really outdid themselves with the 360. They even offer a High Definition DVD player as a separate purchase for the Xbox 360. They respected the consumer enough to not try to force us to adopt some BS technology. I gotta tip my Hat to the Machine.
Nintendo has something different altogether and they are talking about a new type of gaming at less than $250.
What are your thoughts?

couldn't agree with you more. you definitely have a point. but the society is just a victim of the so-called "industry standard" stuff... or crap to put it in your perspective.
nevertheless, i am not really subjective about how sony does their electronics stuff. but i say there is change.
i'm not really into gaming consoles. as a matter of fact, my last one was a ps one. i enjoyed it very much. i also played ps2 games back then but they did not last (maybe because of the variety of games now... or am i just too hooked up to my pc...)
we'll see...

I pretty much agree. However, Sony gets most of the third-party vendors and their games, so we're forced to buy PS.
5 years, 11 months ago
I have never liked Sony either. I doubt that the PS3 will sell very much since it is so expensive, like six hundred dollars that is so much!!!
Althought I have my issues with microsoft and they are a peice of crap I own an xbox 360 becuase i dont know why.
Nintendo is the way to go the wii will be awesome because of its cheap price and great games like zelda and super smash brothers brawl and the new controllers will be so tight.....

It would help your argument some athozoan if you spelled Blu-Ray correctly.
5 years, 11 months ago
Well said although I don't have any Playstation and would like some of the games. The argument youposed is pretty much why I still haven't got a playstation unless it becomes really cheap which I can't see happening(I'd want a ps3. I'm in Australia and we saw the Gamecube drop to $99 brand new with controller. XBOX drop to $150 (these are au $) With the new consoles coming out. PS2 decide to drop but to $189 which isn't that bad but could go lower. Maybe when the ps3 drops to that price (...10 years later). A friend of mine does have a HDTV and unless you know what your doing it can really ruin your time. The settings are quite complictaed and while playing Halo 2 we got a lot of bluriness and delay over a simple lan connection. Also once we were playing and the Delay was a good 2 seconds. We then realise Zoom was enabled!!!WTF. so yeah it isn't that great.

one comment on that. nintendo isn't that much good as far as variety of games are concerned. actually it got very boring for nintendo ever since they started that "kids friendly" stuff. they did too much censoring back then on nintendo games (around 1999 or so) that's why the market shifted to promoting the PSone.
i don't know what's exactly going on right now but nintendo has good games now then that's a breather.
5 years, 11 months ago
Actually, the market shifted because of Nintendo gaming policy, not just because of censorship. They made it so that only Nintendo could manufacture games for it's console. Fortunately, games aren't really a big problem now. Consoles used to monopolise games, for example, Sega had Sonic and Nintendo had Mario Bros, and they were pretty much exclusive to that particular console. Since the PS however, 3rd party game developers have been given a whole lot more leeway, and a lot of good games are actually released acrossed platforms. (eg Resident Evil)
Although some are still exclusive to a particular console, it seems more likely that the industry will gear towards uniformity, where games will be released for all consoles. This was the direction the video game industry was heading when the competition for 2nd gen consoles were coming out. Sega couldn't keep up, so they decided to scrap their console project and start concentrating on producing games for other platforms.
I'm not entirely sure if this applies to the 3rd gen consoles, but it would seem that eventually, third party companies will realise that it might well pay to release a game for all consoles, making "which" console to buy actually more a preference rather than a prerequisite for a certain game. I haven't been monitoring the situation lately, but I'd hope that WHICH console we buy shouldn't be that big an issue as opposed to WHICH GAME to buy...

to be honest from my point of view i never bought a system for the reason of graphics or how powerful the system was it had more to do with the games. i know $600 is a little pricey and even i don't know why they add what they did but Sony is still loosing money from what the specs say it will cost $1000+ to make each system with a $400 lost from each system they are estimating a 60 million dollar loss. but i guess that doesn't really matter to most people, I'm just going to be an idiot and buy all three systems because i hate times when their is a game i really want but it's only released for a specific system.
5 years, 11 months ago
Doesn't matter to them tho, their still gonna be costing so much money. Atleast the Wii will be cheaper, but I'm still gonna get a PS3 (the GoodA one)
5 years, 11 months ago
dude, i agree with you. it´s truth that sony seem to be interested only in gain money (well who doesn´t want ¬_¬) and it seem that this company is having problems, but put a console a price like that it´s just absurd. video game console are ment to play, to have fun, to enjoyed but sony don´t care about that at all. they just put the blue-ray to get an excuse to put that price, i doesn´t matter how much space you have, you don´t need 50gb to make the most beautiful game ever. look the 360, they don´t have blue-ray and they have beautiful games.
but, like satoru iwata said before, it seem that third parties are only interested only in graphics and thats way wii it´s different from the others, to made a change in the minds of those who creates games, to put the imagination to another level. i just say that sony will have problems with its console, beacuase not only the console is expensive but also will be its games, and paid more money for something to have fun it´s a problem, i rather prefer go out with my freinds and play basket or soccer or play wii XP.
not only that, the idea of two version of ps3 is even worse. one that have everything and the other that don´t have anything, it seem that sony think that gamers are stupid. of course will try to get the premium one if we want enjoy the game to the fullest, and even if we get the cheaper we still have to spend more money to upgraded, because there will be games that required those specification to be able to play.
the ps2 was great becuase of the large library of games that have, but if they think that they will still have the same support like the ps2 they are wrong. if a console is difficult to reach the audience then they will not get the same support as the previus one, let´s be serius who doesn´t have a ps2 in these days, that´s why they get so much third parties support, every single human on earth (well not all of them) have ps2. but what will if the ps3 is not very well welcome in the world, what will happen if not anyone have a ps3, will the third parties support a system like that? will they make games for something that anyone have? i don´t think so. put as example the game cube, the game cube didn´t have the same support as the ps2 becuase it was something that anyone like it, let´s face it, if i have to chose between a ps2 and a game cube i will chose the ps2 for its games, and please lets not put the x-box here, the only thing that the x-box had was sports games and games without a plot, only bloody games.
i think i will wait for a year and see how the ps3 its recived, if they have a huge sale then i will get one and if they don´t have then i will still get it because of final fantasy XIII and metal gear XP. sony its risking so much that if they don´t expect the result they want, then they will lose a HHHHHUUUUUGGGGEEEE amount of money.
GOOD LUCK SONY!!!!

I to agree with you. To much money for these things....
5 years, 11 months ago
Hm. Yes, I own a PsOne and I just love PS2 but the PS3 price is way expensive. Especially in Argentina where a dollar cost 3 pesos. So if it's expensive for you imagine paying the triple or bit more.
5 years, 11 months ago
You have a point, but the society is not going to wait with you. Either you get a HD TV to be compatible with PS3 or you don't buy. That's the sad reality, that is.
5 years, 11 months ago
You know, if you get a PS3 you don't have to own a HDTV, get one right away or even get one at all. I can see why a lot of people are complaining about the price since this site is mostly of the younger group. Just get a job, save allowence and you should have enough to pay for the PS3 if your parents don't chip in.
5 years, 11 months ago
just get a job!?, how easy is this for you to say this. why don´t try to think if others have problems getting a job, don´t say things like that. you sound like money doesn´t matter, you know how expensive are the books for the college, i could spend like 400$ or 350$ just buying used books, and top of that, i have to spend like 5000$ for my classes in the college. you sound like you have so munch money that things like that are nothing for you. you know how expensive this console will be in latin america, only in venezuela will be like 5 million bolivares, and i am not kiding becuase in venezuela i have freinds and i lived in venezuela just while ago, the 360 was like 3 million bolivares and if we pass that to dollar will be like 1400$, things like this pass in the world you know?. there are things more important than cansole.
just get a job!!!???, man!!
5 years, 11 months ago
The whole "get a job" solution isn't very good. $600 is a very large chunk out of the average paycheck. Not to mention that Sony also expects the PS3 to be upgraded in the future like a PC, which will mean extra csots and such. For $600 one could easily get a Wii AND a 360 and have a much more varied and interesting library of games. After all, having two systems yields different game libraries, and one being the Wii guarentees you innovation and new ways of playing games. Sony seems to be pushing their agenda down our throats, that graphics = good games. While Nintendo is doing its own thing and reinventing the way we play games, Sony and Microsoft are just creating the same games but with a graphical boost. The difference is that the 360 is $200 less.

I, for one, am ready to spend over half a thousand dollars on video games. On the other hand, I can buy the Nintendo Wii and play The Legend of Zelda, possibly the GREATEST game series ever created, for less than the cost of the PS3. Hm...this is a tough decision...
5 years, 11 months ago
I
ve always been a fan of sony... have the ps1,ps2 and psp too but their recent actions have left me like "WTF are they smoking???" I just cant believe declarations like "we could sell ps3 with no games at all, and people would still buy it" and "if we labeled ps3 with an apple logo people would pay even $2000 for it" which are pretty much translated into "we have the consumers in the palm of our hands, we can tell them what to buy and they will do it just because it comes from us" they are pretty much biting the hand that feeds them...5 years, 11 months ago
Well if you can wait a while...... the price will have to go down some day (year-ish)
5 years, 11 months ago
Er, Blu-Ray is not just about HD graphics. The Blu-Ray discs hold more data, so you can get games with more levels, more cut scenes, more music etc...
