So, I started reading this manga recently. I'm curious: What do you all think of it?

When I started reading it, I couldn't help but see reference after reference to One Piece in it, but now that i've been reading it for awhile, it's started to stand alone. Does anyone else find the similarities to One Piece? Or is it just me?

i want to see this anime, but i know that there are some OVA in the series.. someone know the right position of these OVA in the tory of the anime?

i have never read the manga, for i do not partake in the manga of any series, i perfer to stick to the anime. im not sure if that makes my an anime fanatic fraud or not. (it doesnt btw) but i really enjoy fairy tail the show and the ova.

I started watching the anime, and in the middle of the first chapter I say "this is the best anime in the world" XDDDD

I will say that the Manga is entertaining to read - but it sort of goes on and off with me. Some arcs are pretty solid, while others are pretty so-so. Overall, I can't really bring myself to care about some of the characters. And some of the build-ups are hit-or-miss too. The build-up with the Dragon Slayers battling each other was satisfying, a bit one-sided but good nonetheless. Then you have battles like Rufus and Gray (rematch) which were pretty disappointing. I know it's nit-picking, but the overall story is just not as cohesive and rewarding like One Piece. I can hardly remember some of the earlier story arcs in Fairy Tail, as they were either not that significant, or interesting. For One Piece, every arc had some significant contribution to the overall story line, and gave readers a consistent sense of progression. The humor mirrors One Piece, but it doesn't seem as authentic, which sometimes turns me off. Don't get me wrong, I like Fairy Tail, but solely for entertainment. I personally don't think it holds a candle to One Piece. Then again, One Piece has been around for a while (aging really well might I add), while Fairy Tail is something more recent. Some might call me out and tell me I'm a fanboy, but I believe that my points are valid. On paper, Mages, Shinigami, or Ninjas seem much cooler than Pirates - so for a pirate Manga/Anime to be my favorite, it's pretty deserving of the word, "solid." Still, I like a lot of Fairy Tail's characters - Mystogan and Laxus are my favorites. Mashiro can really draw up some attractive characters as well (Lucy, Erza, Ultear, Kagura). ;)

Fairy Tail is really good! It shares the same spirit as One Piece: both series are very focused on the power of friendship and camaraderie.

I prefer Fairy Tail over One Piece, simply because the setting feels more fun.

At the beginning the only similarity I felt was that the main character was similar to One Piece. But after I continued reading I started seeing the charm behind Fairy Tale. Definitely one of my favorite manga series.
