Here's a little summary to get things started and for those who haven't seen the series.
Plot Summary: After losing their mother, Alphonse and Edward Elric attempt to bring her back using the forbidden science of human alchemy. However, alchemy operates on the theory of equivalent trade, and breaking the human alchemy taboo carries a heavy price. Ed loses his leg, and Al loses his body. Ed is able to seal Al's soul inside of a huge suit of armor, at the cost of his arm. Years later, Ed (now with two mechanical limbs) and Al (still trapped in the armor) leave their childhood home, each brother concerned with the other's happiness. Ed, who has a natural talent and skill for alchemy, becomes nationally certified and is soon known everywhere as the "Fullmetal Alchemist." Their true objective is to search for any information on the fabled Philosopher's Stone, hoping it will allow them to regain their old bodies. All of their hopes rest with this mythical stone, which may not even exist at all. However, the brothers soon learn that they are not the only ones after the powerful stone.
I think that FMA is one of the greatest animes I have ever seen. The story was splendid. It started off somewhat slow but the pace picked up unexpectedly with it's well thought out and elaborate plot twists. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, something unexpected happened and I was left speechless. The story also has a good balance of humor and sorrow and in most cases, it was very thought provoking. Truly a work of art.
The characters were very likable as well (although some people thought Al was kinda annoying). There was a great deal of character development and characterization, especially around the main characters; Ed in specific. I loved how Ed's personality changed from being ignorant, unsure and somewhat naive to being melancholic, resolute and downright serious as the anime progressed. Of course, it wasn't just Ed; there were many character developments among both the protagonists and antagonists (does Lust come to mind? ^^).
All in all, this was a great anime and definitely one of my favorites. I think I should go as far as stating that it was one of the few anime with a really good dubbing. For those of you who haven't seen the series, I recommend that you do; however, it will take a little patience for the story to pick up.
For those of you who have seen the series, what do you think of Fullmetal Alchemist? Discuss.

FMA is one of my favorite anime <3 The animation was pretty well done and since I am cheap and only watch my anime on TV, I got to enjoy a really good dub. There were some parts where I thought it dragged, but that's just about the only downside. I didn't really like how they developed Ed-but that's just 'cause I love the manga more than the anime <3
I got three of my friends addicted by showing them the first two DVDs and the movie xD
The Movie's Ending = HATE. When I was watching it with my friends, one of them yelled at the screen. Most of it is good-but then comes the ending and you're left wondering what the whole point was.
One of the parts that annoyed me most was Alphonse dying to help Ed get back to his world, AND THEN ED CAME BACK ANYWAY. And that they left Winry behind. Poor Winry.
I could rant on and on about the movie, but I don't think I will =3

I did not enjoy this as much towards the beginning but towards the end it was an awesome watch. I like Alphonse the most to be honest ;)

Does anybody else feel sorry for what happened to the little girl that got merged withthe dog D=
I so was like "omg nuuu D=" when I saw that, specially for a cartoon with so much funny content in it, there sure was a lot of gore.
Another nasty part was when scar was dismembered, I don't know, it all feels kinda misplaced throughout the anime, it should've avoided most of the gore, but that's japanese culture I guess...

I enjoy following the story to FMA. The development of the characters in the manga is interesting to follow. You get to see the lighter side and the serious side of almost every character. Also, if you are familiar with Machiavellian politics and issues, then this series is a gold mine for it. The struggle for power over others can be seen as a central theme to this series, as shown with the militant government and the actual attempt at power over death itself with the homunculus.

Well I really liked the anime, even better when in the movie, a pretty important thing happens at the end. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet.
I was a little sad though, my favorite character died in the series, and though we saw him briefly in the movie, it just wasn't the same.
Excellent series, one worth watching again, after you finish watching it the first time!

It's gotta be one of my favorite animes. In my opinion, I thought the movie was pretty good, and I usually find anime movies to not be very good if they had a series beforehand. The parallel worlds idea really makes the anime that much more interesting and involving.

Most people who watch anime would consider this anime to in thier top 10 or 20 list. This anime shows the unity between brothers who have lost everything but their bond themselves and have alot to gain.
As Ed and Al continuse their study on alchemy and start a journy to restore their bodies by finding the legendary Philosopher's Stone, they meet many people that are good and bad and that influnce Ed and Al. The story has few plot twist that will effect the viewr thought on the show.
Overall, I believe this anime is great peice of work. Very nice art work, great story and charcter, and very unique.
My favourite character is probably Alphonse Eric. I like him as a character, but I don't really know why ^^

Fullmetal Alchemist's my FAVORITE anime of all time. It has a GREAT plot that makes you laugh, cry and nervous. Although the storyline maybe a little dark for some but I still think that it's worth watching. REALLY WORTH WATCHING.
The story deviated quite a lot from the manga but the storyline that it formed on it's own was still excellent. It often got me mixed up with the story in the manga. HAHAHAHA.
However, the ending got me a little disappointed. Even the ending in the movie was less than wad i expected. But i'm still satisfied. XD
So all in all. Fullmetal Alchemist's a MUST WATCH. XDD

A great anime I must say. Especially with the bishie, Edward. He he he he. But I also do like the action and seriousness of it. The mysteries too. ^-^. I watched the whole anime about 2 years ago, and I don't own it. So, now I don't really have the muse I had to talk about it. Um, but it is a nice anime. And wow, the manga, I read a part of it where Envy showed his true form. It was so cool, and the mangaka, really, she knows how to add light comedies into the parts even though they're serious. ^-^. I haven't really watched the movie, but I heard from people that it has a lot of talking and it's boring. But, of course I won't listen to them. My brothers said that they would let me watch, but until now, they didn't do anything. ^-^;. [sigh]. Fullmetal Alchemist was my favourite anime when I watched it 2 years ago. It was soooo nice that time, and I can't really recall all the feelings I had about it that time. ^-^;.

Terrible anime. They started out good, and it was on par with the manga, then decided to go off and make their own storyline which sucked horribly. Cut your losses short and read the manga, because the manga was really good, but the anime itself sucked all hell.

Another amazing anime that made its own way to my personal top of favorite series. As most people here said already, this is one of the greatest series from the last years. Even though the plot is not original but adapted from a manga series, I think BONES did quite a glorious work.
The characters are all charismatic in one way, makes you like them for real. And you better grab yourself some tissues, because when people die here you will cry buckets. And contrary to some rather popular animes, here each character has his own way of seeing how the world revolves. Very distinct people appear through this series, and each of them has a strong personality. I personally love Edward - really deeply built - and Roy - also was brilliant. Both are really important in the plot and the way they interact with other characters is amazing. The plot itself is something totally new (I've never seen something like this). Arakawa-san is way too creative for her own good. The way homunculus are born, history from the story line itself, automail... Even though it got quite screwed on the anime version, I kind of like it. They didn't ruined it way too much as everyone else says. I also loved the movie (I think they did quite well actually...). The soundtrack surprises me in much ways. Classic music adaptations and nice calm touching tracks, Michiru-san did a truly beautiful job. I swear, this anime wouldn't be what it is if it weren't for its soundtrack. Who doesn't listen to Bratja these days? That song is purely awesome. Usually they're really - really - depressing songs and they fit the video so damn well. The seiyuus also helped tons - they were always super in character... It kind of locked them into those characters. Paku Romi will always be Edward - always. The animation quality was also splendid. From the very start to the last episode, BONES improved their animation and made it so that you would cry tears of joy. Super good in action sequences, the movements came out really smoothly. Maybe you won't notice half of these things (even though the soundtrack, it is impossible not to...) but all of this together make of Fullmetal Alchemist what in fact it is.
I think that everyone should go ahead and watch this series (even if you already did it! XD). It's such an amazing story, it's impossible not to like it at the very least.

A great series no doubt about it. Great premise, great characters, excellent plot. I think it's a good example of an anime that starts off great and the viewer is in for a ride that they're not sure what the outcome will be.
Nothing is too over done, like the way they take the mick out of Ed and his height. Also it's a series with heart.

Well i never read the manga so i don't know how the manga series differs from the anime. However i really liked the anime series, it's so sad and interesting especially the ending. The ending at first didn't make sense to me but because it kind of just cut off. Then I discovered there was a movie after the anime series that finished up the where the anime left off. After that i felt a little bit more complete but it ended kinda of cut off again. I think that it should of continued to show how their life was after the series ended.

This series intrigues me. I only saw one episode of it on Adult Swim a year or two ago, and I liked it. Do they make any DVD box sets of FMA?

Can't compare with manga because i haven't read the last. But on its own this anime is one of the best i've ever seen. Can't but mention the great music and good graphic of it.

There is no one who can't not like Full Metal Alchemist. It's funny with action and a deep plot. The movie was completely awesome
