Here's a little summary to get things started and for those who haven't seen the series.

Plot Summary: After losing their mother, Alphonse and Edward Elric attempt to bring her back using the forbidden science of human alchemy. However, alchemy operates on the theory of equivalent trade, and breaking the human alchemy taboo carries a heavy price. Ed loses his leg, and Al loses his body. Ed is able to seal Al's soul inside of a huge suit of armor, at the cost of his arm. Years later, Ed (now with two mechanical limbs) and Al (still trapped in the armor) leave their childhood home, each brother concerned with the other's happiness. Ed, who has a natural talent and skill for alchemy, becomes nationally certified and is soon known everywhere as the "Fullmetal Alchemist." Their true objective is to search for any information on the fabled Philosopher's Stone, hoping it will allow them to regain their old bodies. All of their hopes rest with this mythical stone, which may not even exist at all. However, the brothers soon learn that they are not the only ones after the powerful stone.

I think that FMA is one of the greatest animes I have ever seen. The story was splendid. It started off somewhat slow but the pace picked up unexpectedly with it's well thought out and elaborate plot twists. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, something unexpected happened and I was left speechless. The story also has a good balance of humor and sorrow and in most cases, it was very thought provoking. Truly a work of art.

The characters were very likable as well (although some people thought Al was kinda annoying). There was a great deal of character development and characterization, especially around the main characters; Ed in specific. I loved how Ed's personality changed from being ignorant, unsure and somewhat naive to being melancholic, resolute and downright serious as the anime progressed. Of course, it wasn't just Ed; there were many character developments among both the protagonists and antagonists (does Lust come to mind? ^^).

All in all, this was a great anime and definitely one of my favorites. I think I should go as far as stating that it was one of the few anime with a really good dubbing. For those of you who haven't seen the series, I recommend that you do; however, it will take a little patience for the story to pick up.

For those of you who have seen the series, what do you think of Fullmetal Alchemist? Discuss.

To tell the truth, I was not that big of a fan for the first anime installment. I think it has to do with my friend spoiling parts of the end for me. Besides, I think the ending animations were often too still and gloomy.

Anyways, I have to say that I liked the Brotherhood installment. First of all, the plot did not get spoiled this time around. On top of that, I found the plot, the animation and the soundtrack pretty amazing.

I really liked the FMA series. They had characters that were fleshed out; even the seemingly minor characters like Maria Ross and Sheska. I'm in the middle of the FMA: Brotherhood series, but since it follows the manga, I expect the differences to be there. I can definitely recommend this anime as one of the best.

I really liked the original series of Fullmetal Alchemist, the music and the storyline was just wonderful. I haven't really gotten around to reading the manga in full or watching the new series, but I am hoping that they will be just as good as the other one was.

FMA was a good anime. To be named the one of the greatest I am not so sure... I only saw the original but the anime itself gets kind of repetitive imo. But with all things said and done, the depth of the anime was pretty good, we have not seen many animes out there like this one and I really do hope in the future there are more to come.

It's really good, a good series or movie for me has always been defined by the message it leaves for you to think. Full Metal Alchemist was an interesting anime. It was good, held my attention through about 15 episodes, then kinda went south. I stayed with it, saw it till the end and regretted it badly. Point is, the anime sucked. The manga however was amazing, and something definately worth the time to read. So yes FMA in the end is another anime that should have waited for the manga to finish before it was made, because the whole story of the anime after like 30 epsidoes is just a giant WTF happened to my anime.

fullmetal alchemist great story Fullmetal Alchemist is one of the wildest stories and creative I've ever had the pleasure of reading and watching only creativity to create something by using something equivalent was a stroke of genius, was an anime that does not happen, but of good scenes a good story, if fullmetal alchemist has not only the first two fullmetal second as well. fullmetal part of my childhood is an avid anime recommend.

I think FMA is a very very good anime, Ed and Al try to find their way to get back the things they lost, but they still care for someone else. And I really like the idea of the equal exchange.

It is a great anime, is in the first 3 posts of my favorite sweeten, after ONE PIECE and CODE GEASS, the truth that it is worth, is full of lessons and reflections, a very good Shonen, in addition to having a final EPIC. :')

I liked the second Anime release of FMA (Brotherhood). Story is different, although there are some similarities, and I kinda liked the Brotherhood's story. Effects and smooth animation also captured my interest.

I loved the series, even though it was kind of emo, but that is because that was what made the story. I think FMA Brotherhood was a little better though.

I only read the manga and I gotta say that I really love it. The ending is very satisfying too. It teaches us that nothing is truly free in this world.
