Here's a little summary to get things started and for those who haven't seen the series.

Plot Summary: After losing their mother, Alphonse and Edward Elric attempt to bring her back using the forbidden science of human alchemy. However, alchemy operates on the theory of equivalent trade, and breaking the human alchemy taboo carries a heavy price. Ed loses his leg, and Al loses his body. Ed is able to seal Al's soul inside of a huge suit of armor, at the cost of his arm. Years later, Ed (now with two mechanical limbs) and Al (still trapped in the armor) leave their childhood home, each brother concerned with the other's happiness. Ed, who has a natural talent and skill for alchemy, becomes nationally certified and is soon known everywhere as the "Fullmetal Alchemist." Their true objective is to search for any information on the fabled Philosopher's Stone, hoping it will allow them to regain their old bodies. All of their hopes rest with this mythical stone, which may not even exist at all. However, the brothers soon learn that they are not the only ones after the powerful stone.

I think that FMA is one of the greatest animes I have ever seen. The story was splendid. It started off somewhat slow but the pace picked up unexpectedly with it's well thought out and elaborate plot twists. Just when I thought I had the story figured out, something unexpected happened and I was left speechless. The story also has a good balance of humor and sorrow and in most cases, it was very thought provoking. Truly a work of art.

The characters were very likable as well (although some people thought Al was kinda annoying). There was a great deal of character development and characterization, especially around the main characters; Ed in specific. I loved how Ed's personality changed from being ignorant, unsure and somewhat naive to being melancholic, resolute and downright serious as the anime progressed. Of course, it wasn't just Ed; there were many character developments among both the protagonists and antagonists (does Lust come to mind? ^^).

All in all, this was a great anime and definitely one of my favorites. I think I should go as far as stating that it was one of the few anime with a really good dubbing. For those of you who haven't seen the series, I recommend that you do; however, it will take a little patience for the story to pick up.

For those of you who have seen the series, what do you think of Fullmetal Alchemist? Discuss.

Yup. Some of the homonculus have a sad but with good teachings attached to them. 1. Greed - just want to have friends 2. Wrath - a life... a normal life... 3. Lust - love...

-- ehhh... this is what I think and what I remembered from the series. I didn't really get pride, gluttony, sloth and envy

I have always keep an eye on Fullmetal Alchemist series. To be honest, I was a little bit disappointed with the first season. However, when the Brotherhood came out, it was totally another story for me. The plot line is just so much more thought out. I was really impressed with its second series.

Gorgeous, perfect, lovely, thrilling, emotional. Loved it and loved Brotherhood, both as different beasts.

I find brotherhood the best anime ever! really! Arakawa must be a very inteligent person... fullmetal alchemist has a lot of things to be discovered, just like an alchemy text =D well, I think so! Have you ever read about alchemy? I've recently read something about calcination... It's something like... well... you have to burn to ashes your old you to reborn again or even burn your problems... or something like that... And I thought about the moment when Ed and Al burn their house... and we can see a wooden cross in the background... Am I imagening things.......? =P lol

Fullmetal Alchemist, it looks like they could do a lot of things through alchemy! In fact from what i have read in ancient folklore and books, I doesn't mention bringing people back to life, i think the producers got it confused with another kind of magic....anyways it has a good storyline so i will definitely check it out! thanks!

FMA was great. But Brotherhood was fantastic. For those who haven't seen it yet, you should. FMAB have the ending that the original animated series didn't. The one that it deserved.

I thought it was absolutely brilliant, showing throughout the love one can hold for a brother. The characters were pretty memorable and here I'm especially referring to Coronal Mustang and his one goal of rising through the ranks to the top! The talks between Edward and Mustang bring some humor relief before the epic drama continues again.
