Ok so, I decided to try my hand at doing a chibi vector, for one because they're a bit simpler so I can mess with stuff and tweak around to try and improve my skills, and two because chibi's are adorable and there aren't enough around.

So, I'd love any comments and advice/constructive criticism. Honestly, I'd like to submit it to AP, but I still don't think my skills quite meet AP standards, so if any of you think it'd be a good one to submit, lemme know.

Real quick, I tried some different techniques on this one to try and make my vectors look better, and to improve my outlining. I did the basic vectoring in Illustrator CS3, trying to play with curving the pen tool for the outlines a bit more, and then I ported it over to Photoshop CS3 and used the burn tool to create the shading in the leaves, and some soft fluffy brushes to create the small blush under her eyes and a bit of highlight in her arms. I then set a pattern at low opacity in her clothing to give it a bit of extra flair. My version has some slight differences to the original, but that's because I liked how the colors went with the vector.

Vector:Vectored Version

Again, any comments at all I'd greatly appreciate. I'm loving vectoring so far, but I want to get better and so outside opinions are always the best, especially with graphics haha. I have both the .psd and the .ai for revisions

I think you are too undecided whether you want rounded or pointed edges. You should pick one or the other and not mix in both.

Eh, I did that because in the original, some of the edges were pointed and some where round, so thats why I did that. If its better to stick with one despite that, then I'll give that a try.

If youre talking about the bangs, the parts looked rounded, so I went with that. I can change it to pointed if it would look better that way.

Edit: Changed the ends of the bangs to pointed and it looks pretty good. I'm not sure if I'll change or should change the outlining of her eye since it's rounded in the image and I like how it looks. Linked image is updated.

Another Edit: Taking some advice from someone, I also changed the color of the blush and skin highlights, fixed some minor color overlap errors, and added a low tone pattern to her hair to try and bring more "life" to it. Also added her eyelashes, which I forgot D=

The shapes need to be smoother.

The linework is kind of wobbley which means some inconsistency between the sides of the line shape. It's better to make a straight path from corner to corner. Then add nodes and bend the shape's curves. It will lessen the amount of nodes on your shape making it smoother.
