Tried messing around with photoshop and colored a scanned sketch I made. Quite honestly I haven't the faintest idea what I was doing. I don't really know the basics in coloring in a digital environment. Any tips? and also what do you think?Image

It'd look more "anime-like" without lots of filter on it. As I see, the outlines done not bad and shading/lighting, too.

As for tips, I suggest you look through deviantart where you can find plenty of tutorials, tips and guides. I also recommend the tutorials by Nysha - they awesome to start with.

essentially it's the same as coloring on dry media. just apply what you know of that to this. tools that work well for coloring are blur, smudge, the liquify filter, and dodge and burn, but be very careful with dodge and burn, it's only for special effects like making a metal sparkle, or giving an eye a realistic glow. use it sparingly. do all your shadows manually, in a chosen color, never use burn for shadows. to blend use a low opacity, low flow brush, and brush from one color to the other, then sample the new color in between with the eyedropper and continue, until it's as smooth as you want. that's my preferred method anyways. less mechanical and filtered looking in the end.

really, just play with the tools, until you fully understand them, and then apply that knowledge, otherwise you're just following a predescribed method and the art isn't truly yours.
