No restrictions, just be sure that your work is your own and has high quality.

Rules

The submitted entries must be just a character vector/vexel, no full wallpapers are allowed.
The submitted entries must fulfill the requirements for vectors in AP's FAQ.
The submitted entries should be posted on AP.
Only one entry per person.
One character only. Full or close-up, depends on you.
No limitation in style, you also can use colored lines, gradients or light effects. (but vector-masked painting is not allowed, it goes over the term of vectoring)

The vector/vexel needs to be a close-up.

Rule description

The vector/vexel must be a close-up, which shows the upper part of a character. Basically you cannot go lower as the groin. (we will not make a fuss about a few milimeters, but try to not include legs, and if the character wears a skirt or similar, use your x-ray eyes to guess it right xD) Anyways cropping a full character scan is not acceptable, AP has enough scans for this. If you're unsure about the validity of your scan, feel free to pm @Akiranyo or @Kamlotton for confirmation.

No need to write here who will or not will join, just submit your entries in this topic and we will take that as participating. Be sure to post a link to your entry on AP. Vector downloading is now free on AP so there is no reason to upload them somewhere else.

Prizes & voting

After closing the contest a voting topic will be created. Everybody can vote, who is a member here at least for one month. Prizes will be badges with the achieved placing with papers reward, and also everybody else will got one for just mere participating (papers included too). 1st place will receive 500 papers, 2nd 250 papers, 3rd 100 papers and participants get 50 papers.

FAQ

What's VectaDesu?

It's a vectoring/vexeling contest which strives to showcase the vector/vexel prowess of AnimePaper's members. It's also a good place for people to increase their vectoring/vexeling skills.

Who can enter VectaDesu?

Anyone who's a member of AnimePaper. Members, scanners, wallers and senior members are treated the same. No need to become a group member to enter the contest but it's mandatory if you want the badge and to add your vector to the group pool. Be sure your entry is not full of flaws though.

Is there any restrictions on the scan used?

It doesn't have to be on AnimePaper but be sure the scan you used for your entry respects AP's FAQ (except for the resolution and quality part.) You have to vector/vexel only one character. Missing parts of the character can be added but it's not mandatory.

In which format should I submit my entry?

Your entry should be submitted in AP's vector section and follow the FAQ. The entry resolution should be large enough to grasp easily all the details and eventual flaws. SVG are fine too.

My character is seating on a chair/bench/wall and or surrounded by objects, can I vector/vexel them too ?

You can vector/vexel small objects which occlude the character and supporting objects (chair, bench, etc...) The character should be the main part of your entry not the surrounding.

What are the styles/techniques/effects I can use ?

You can use any styles (grayscale, halftone, colored outline, etc...) BUT techniques and effects should not make use of brush works or raster filters/effects. Vector-masked painting is NOT allowed (an tutorial from @Nysha is available here as an example.) Textures aren't allowed either. The only exception is Gaussian blur. You can use Gaussian blur as you want but you can't emulate it using brush works. We trust you and thus we won't ask you to prove that your entry respects this rule.

I have question about the rule and/or the validity of my scan/entry. Who can I ask ?

You can post your question in the call-for-entries topic or send a pm to Akiranyo or Moutonzare. You will get an answer as soon as possible. If your question is general enough, it will be added to the FAQ for future reference.

VectaDesu Championship 2011

The overall winner with the most points on the end of the year will get a banner as the VD Champion of 2011. Second and third also should get some nice title.

Okay, I'm definitely in for this round. Just need to choose another scan as the one I started apparently isn't quite close-up enough. No matter... I can do two =P One for VD, and one for the fun of it =D

I'll either be going for a Dmyo scan or a Midori Foo scan though.

To make it easier, and cause we got too much questions how much is acceptable,(ppl are fighting for each milimeter) I changed from belly to groin.

Wiki: In human anatomy, the groin areas are the two creases at the junction of the torso with the legs
Guess with this will be still inside of the no legs rule.

Above I included a scan showing a example what is acceptable.

I was thinking on faces, up to shoulders or chest at max. And now "try to not include legs" why not tell us "try to not include shoes" ? i mean, the focus of the close up is lost now, trying to make the target easier is not the best for everyone else, and yes, we chose our own difficulty but even for VD i think is weak against the contestants and the contest quality itself. This is almost like a pose vectors. Whatever.

I can get your reasons, but probably we will get less entries to begin with, so therefore is better to make the requirements easier. Also if you make a really close detailed close-ups, I bet that even your voters will acknowledge it as well.

And to define close-up is also a challenge, since I have seen scans where the character practically looks into your face and you can see even her knees :P

in my mind close-up can be any part of the body, but to focus on it 1/7 (or 1/5) of the whole body... but seeing the example 1/3 almost a half of body and character bodyparts all in the same distance from your sight is close-up??? it really gives freedom for scan choosing..

aki's comment "the character practically looks into your face and you can see even her knees" is more like it's close-up... cause face in the focus and it's 1/7 of the body.. but you can see its body but in small size, perspective.

I think the easiest to choose face to vector XD
