Since The day the net was invented, people used it for file sharing (I guess) media, books,...etc but that is coming to an end.
Well You heard the news about closing megaupload and the owners went to jail. Soon after other file sharing sites start to close fearing the same fate
And then a wise man said (we still have torrent!!!)
Not for long
One of my favorite torrent site has closed with the last state
****This is the end of the line my friends. The decision does not come easy, but we've decided to voluntarily shut down. We've been fighting for years for your right to communicate, but it's time to move on. It's been an experience of a lifetime, we wish you all the best!****

What? When the internet was invented it was used for information exchange, not file sharing. The internet didn't come into existence when you started using it. It existed before and it will continue to even without piracy enabling sites.

I always use whether there's filesharing or not. Information exchange is better than file sharing

Nope, no one would.

I don't think it's possible for them to stop torrents, so that's always an option. The internet would still be used, but not near as much.

Of course yes , internet is not only file sharing , the main goal of internet is education , that's how internet was born as a net for Universities after arpa net , but internet needs to evolve and file sharing is part of that , but yes people will use the internet at least if it means to read only page with text without images lol .

You better be careful what you talk about here, especially with new Internet laws threatening the United states lately. Or otherwise everybody here gets into trouble.
I vote for this thread to be closed...

I'm not really sure...I Guess YEAH!! even though people can't share they can still communicate right? But on 2nd thought...Ethernet is really about Sharing & Communicating so you can't call it NET is it's not sharing... That's my opinion anyway...
And regarding Torrent? yeah some did shut down... but there are plenty of torrents site... Like Demonoid , H33T , Isohunt , PirateBay , etc . . . Well i visit almost every Torrent Site whenever i Download Anime . . . BTW I'm an Anime Collector

First of all, you are kidding right? I mean, people end up in jail and you are worried that you will never see naruto to the end? XD anyways. Yes, I think that people will use the net no matter what, I don't share any files and yet I use the net for lots of things! like ordering things, buying, sharing art (it's not the same as fileshare because usually fileshare is about sharing files that you must buy, e.g. music or something) and right now I'm studying via the net, so there are a lot of things to do on the net, besides filesharing. But when I think about it, even if they do shut down many filesharing sites, I think that new ones will be created, and even better, perhaps with better security that no one can find or whatever. I think that closing filesharing sites is a wrong thing to do, instead of making us pay for using a site or something, they close it. I bet people still won't buy anything, I mean, if you like one song from an album, would you buy the whole album for one single track? and yes if I don't live in Asia, how the heck am I supposed to watch anime? :P then again, I could order the dvd:s or something lol, but maybe I want a preview? ah I don't know, I just think that they are making things hard, especially at this time when all those sites have been running for ages... one thing I agree on is that, filesharing has improved the net in many ways, I'm not going to list them up, but I believe that everything should be possible to do via the net, if we limit our options, what are we supposed to do with the net? read the news? They talk the same about social media and youtube because you can comment everything and listen to songs whenever you want (better than radio) , I mean, that you can make your voice heard is an improvement, why limit it? you can listen to songs from iTunes too, the only difference is that iTunes provide samples, not the whole song.

First, Sorry everyone, I know that I always get myself in trouble because I don't know how to express what i want to say. So that you know, I do follow the latest news about megaupload case every day, well, they have been more than supportive to everyone not only me. and the naruto was a side joke, I didn't think that anyone will take that as a serious NIGHTMARE for me . Second, following the news and reading article, I heard that there is new that law restricts the sharing of any information without the permission of it's owner, that means not only file sharing, but info exchange as well will be under restrictions, and that is why wikipedia stopped their activities for a day as a protest. Third about the internet is about file sharing, I mean ONE OF MOST IMPORTANT USES NOWADAYS IS FOR FILE SHARING ,otherwise, why the speed of the net keeps raising, I mean why would I need 100mbs speed if all i can do is surface the web. There is other uses like communication and stuff, but all of that can be replaced with other means, i don't know if i said that right. And finally just to rephrase what i said in this thread , (what do you think of the internet without file sharing?) I know people will still use the net, but you know it'll be much less than before, I know I'll still use it, after all, I need it for my studies, in my country the libraries are poor, and that's what i use the net the most, study, so if there is no books in the libraries nor on the net I'll never graduate or at least I wont go far in my studies. I really want to know how people feels about this, but if it leads to misunderstanding in my first days here, then i rather this thread to be closed, I don't want to get myself or anyone else in trouble, so it's up to the administrators in this site to close it or not, and I apologize if I offended anyone with this thread

The internet exists for file sharing. That is the whole raison d'etre of the whole internet as it allows millions of users all over the world to share and collaborate with data. I doubt file sharing will ever come to an end but there will be ever increasing restrictions as politicians finally come to grasp with the vast power held online. This is all alien territory as the internet has literally erupted from the standalone computer of some 50 years ago into a territory so vast that it has more users than the population of any country. Maybe people are starting to see the internet as no man's land but want to start taking over it. Obviously, there will be uprisings against this type of thing but if the governments are sneaky enough, they could limit the internet slowly over a period of time, and before we know it, the internet is no longer a sharing centre. This reminds me of the anti-Semitic actions taken by the Nazis to eliminate jews but obviously not to that extent.
All inall, the internet is so vast and unprotected, those who seek will always find in the cyber and virtual world.

I doubt there will ever be an end. Most of the people in the countries that this bill is attempting to pass in has a great chance of revoking against it. It could cause a riot in fact. Yes, people are that hostile when it comes to various freedoms, and threatening that freedom runs a great chance of a revoke and a rebellion.

I don't see that day coming, though, for the record, THIS site is doing a lot to limit file sharing by charging members to download images that were, presumably, not made in order to turn a profit. Also, from a technical perspective, the internet is defined by the ability to share files (e.g. every time you go to a website, you download an HTML file). If you want to talk about the disappearance of MegaUpload type file sharing (i.e. the type that can easily be used for questionably legal/illegal activity), I think the best comparison of the future of the net would be a bunch of Apple users all going about their lives happily, without knowing about the possibility of systems that aren't run by some profit-seeking corporation. I don't like the constraints that this would put on legitimate uses of file sharing, but I'm sure that many people won't care.

File sharing is not always piracy. As we see in animepaper, it would be illegal to share a picture here if file sharing was illegal. But i dont think i would like it very much. This is like a paradise for me with all the content floating around(the super demon ninja nerd)

I loved Megaupload, (could not afford a premimum account), but with its toolbar was enough .. Never gave me trouble of any kind (save that exceeded the number of downloads allowed for free users) Now use any server from Sendspace to DepositFiles .. In my case that sometimes I have to send things by mail to my teachers, being heavier than files as attachment is allowed, use Mediafire or 4Shared
