This is a really cool concept. I'm not sure what I can recommend except trying to clean up what seems like a bit of "artifacts" form either the scan or optimizing it as a jpeg.

the big thing I was thinking of was to trim/blur the edges of the "pics" with the square edges. Maybe round them off a lil. Maybe, just maybe play with the saturation of the color a lil to make it a bit more vibrant. As opposed to brightness.
