After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!
Man I have this really good vector I made like two years ago and I want to make a wall from it but I can never make a wall good enough for the vector AHHHHHGHH
Vector is not smooth. Areas where the lines should be smooth curves are angular and sharp. Use bezier curves rather than plotting the curves dot by dot. Outline thickness is inconsistent as the lines have varying thickness. Don't try sticking to the screencap lines but instead, use your own judgment to ensure that the curves are smooth and maintain consistent thickness.
Vector also suffers from color bleeding. Color from one area is spilling over to another area that has a different color.
BACKGROUND
Trees and leaves look low quality and filtered. Overall design is rather dull/boring and uninspiring. I suggest either vectoring the leaves/trees and add in some vectored clours or coming up with a totally new design." View

"Not bad. Very "pop-art"ish. But I feel that it would have been better if the vectored image didn't use solid black for its outline (i.e. using darker hues of the surrounding areas).
Having larger text on lower opacity spreading out of the solid opacity text could balance out the symmetry aspect as the left and right feels a bit empty when compared against the middle area which is crammed with texts." View

"Old school FTW!!! BG design seriously brings back nostalgia to the old days of LSE's AnimeBGX and Red Lee's MixedMedia. Don't see people pulling that kind of BG anymore. Maybe one day I should try Red's grunge style. Always loved her grunge walls.
Image seems to be in need of some cleaning up. Scan grain can be seen on Deedlit's dress. I think the images need some sharpening as well since their faces have that blurry effect.
SFX is classic but needs some cleaning up as well. The light ring FX has that anti-aliasing effect (due to resizing?) and some of the other design elements are kinda jaggy. For the jagginess, I'd just maybe use the pen tool to smoothen out the edges. As for the anti-aliasing effect of the ring, maybe re-creating it on a larger canvas and then downsizing it would do the trick (that's how I do for my lightwave effects). Maybe apply some gaussian blur on the zoom FX as well to remove the grainy stuff.
Not really into heavy pink even during my early walling days. A softer shade of pink or some alternative soft colors might be a better option." View

"Rather than texures, I'd prefer to use smudged patches of darker hues (on a separate layers of course) to give that wall a more rocky surface feel.
Blood splatters I think is generally well done but I don't think blood will shine under any lighting. The highlights of the blood on the wall makes it feel as if it is pooling up and sticking to the wall without dripping down." View

"Other than a clean vector job, there isn't really anything else that is impressive about this wallpaper. It is because the wallpaper is essentially just vectoring over a scan and cropping it out to wallpaper size. From what I see, the clouds in the background are lifted directly off the scan itself. That in the end when looked at, gives a rather generic feel to the overall work.
It would have been much better to at least incorporate some original ideas into the background to spruce it up." View

"Impressive. But a few quirks which I noticed:
01. Her lips are not exactly symmetrical. Even at an angle, the peaks of her upper and lower lip should be closely aligned.
02. The highlights/shadow boundaries that runs through her lips area needs to be made more subtle. The transition from lit area to shadow is a sharp jump." View

"Just to correct, the image you are using is not a vector. It is just a normal scan.
To summarize for easy reading:
01. Image quality is lacking. You can see off-color blotches on her thighs. Scan dirt is also noticeable. There's also that off-color stip of lines that runs along the black outlines.
02. Image extraction needs to be improved. Scan residue can be found around the hair area.
03. Signature is best placed on the bottom rather than on the picture. The era where signatures are displayed prominently on the main canvas area is long gone.
04. I think the image has been downsized too drastically. Try downsizing the image in small stages so that the image does not lose too many data.
Background-wise I think it's somewhat decent but I'd prefer more dynamism to it." View

Anyway, retro looking and very hip. Nice use of desaturated/subdued color tones so that it does not overwhelm the visual senses.
Character feels a bit too close to the bottom boundaries and might get cut off by the taskbar." View

"Design sense is good, but there are areas which can be improved on.
Character
Extraction of character can be improved. White residue can be seen on her hair (left side of the wallpaper). Image character is too blurry. If you are going for the wet look, keep the main base image sharp. Just duplicate layer and apply gaussian blur. After that, reduce gaussian blur and set blending mode on Darken (reduce opacity to taste). Image quality seems to also suffer due to the blurriness. But the grey cloth at the base of the wallpaper really needs manual cleaning up.
Wings
Again, the blurriness is rather excessive compared to the main image, resulting in a disconnect between the two. Would benefit from a more sharper look.
Mist
There seems to be a subtle scanline on the mist." View

"The vectors look well done but the one sticking point would be the moon. The realism of it breaks the natural flow of the whole wallpaper feel.
Not sure if it works, but by playing around with duplicate layers, threshold level adjustments, opacity levels as well as channel fill, you'd probably be able to remove the realism of the moon so that it matches the vector style image better." View

"Nice composition. However, the extraction side of things still needs a bit more improvement.
Looking at her hair on the right side of the wallpaper, you can see some dark pixels jutting out from the curves. And on the left side of the wallpaper, you can see areas where the outlines disappear at one point and reappear at another.
Similarly, her right sleeve's outline seems somewhat eaten up.
Simple solution that I can suggest would be to do a subtle thin stroke and then play around with opacity and layer mask to make the stroke look natural, thus blending it with the existing outline." View

And the white swirlies do not really fit in due to its blurriness. Keeping it sharp and placing a silhouette behind it would be a much better option." View

"The scan actually came from Kei Kurosu's website, Dokuganryu.com ( Persona 4 category)
Anyway, vector is nicely done and the soft subtle wet effect (I assume it's gaussian blur + darken blending mode) pleasantly adds to the overall image feel.
Background split between brown and beige colors together with the inverted colored texts gives a classic old school feel. Rather retro. Text size and positioning is quite well placed to cancel out the empty space without the whole thing being too cluttered.
The only thing that I feel you might want to look into would be the texts on the bottom of the wallpaper. On the right, your signature username would possibly be partially blocked out by the taskbar should anyone choose to use it as a desktop wallpaper. That means the tip of the "d" and "l" of your username will be sticking out above the taskbar while others are beneath it. On the left, the "never surface again" will be covered by the taskbar as well. Increasing font size might be an option. For those who only collects wallpapers as collection and not as desktop decor will not be bothered by this though (eg: I use only MS Windows' default desktop walls and my wallpaper collections are for admiring the art and skill only, so the texts at the bottom is not an issue for me)." "The wallpaper is currently having a large contrast image quality. You have characters which are vectored crips and clean but at the same time, you have a background which is excessively blurred. The eyes are having a hard time trying to adjust. This is a huge pulldown on the overall wallpaper quality. To simulate object distance, nearer items should be sharper and the further it gets, the more blurred it will be (but not that blurred).
Personally I am of the opinion that the whole brush and smudge/blur approach doesn't work well here. The background needs to be sharper and cleaner.
From a perspective aspect, it feels a bit awkward. The characters do not really feel like they are lying on the surface. There's that impression of the characters slightly floating on the surface. And if you analyze the image camera position, you'll see that the camera angle is quite steep and closed up. The background relative to the character and camera positioning would indicate that the characters are giants.
Starfield seems overdone. Too many of them actually. The 8-tipped stars shouldn't be in there. There are no stars that glow that bright from a realism viewpoint. And in the nightsky in real life, stars do not reach that density." View

The main eyecatch for me would be the text. Awesome positioning with awesome effects to match as well.

"To modify your color settings, just adjust the color levels (Hotkey CTRL+L). Then shift the slider bars accordingly so that the image's color level matches the overall wallpaper feel.
Some parts of her outlines are a bit rough (near the nose area and on her fingers), so one way to fix it up is to create a blank layer and CTRL+click the image layer. You will get a marching ant outline. Stroke the marching ant on the blank layer using EDIT > STROKE (using black color). Now you get a very solid black outline. Reduce opacity so that it fills up the rough edges while not giving the image a heavily outlined look. One trick is to remove the unwanted outline area so that the stroke line doesn't appear on the image." View

"Image is not really clean. You can see some sort of texture on it. Duplicate the image layer and apply smart blur (you need to experiment a few times with different value and quality settings to get it right). After that, reduce the image opacity to a comfortable level so that you achieve two objectives.
01. The smart blur effect on the duplicate layer does not look too noticeable
02. The scan texture on the original layer does not look too noticeable
Some online tutorials suggest using blending modes like overlay but it tends to affect the sharpness of your color hues. Since your image is not too heavily textured, the trick of reducing opacity to mesh the two layers together should suffice whilst retaining the color scheme of the original scan.
The dark outer glow needs to be removed as it makes the image sticks out like a separate layer placed over the background. That way, you make the character look more natural as if she is part of the whole design.

Secondly, the amount of pixelation on the overall wallpaper give me the impression that it was enlarged from a smaller version. Avoid doing that as the quality degradation will occur when enlarging.

A bit unfortunate that the lower left design is smudged as it contrasts against the cleanliness of the character. Keeping the design unsmudged would give an overall cleaner and crisper look. The subtle white shadows could use a bit more upping on the opacity to make it more visible.
Rather than using gradients, it would be interesting to experiment on using subtle color layers. That would break the monotony associated with gradients. An example would be as the below.
If you observe the left area, the transition from light gray to white is not based on gradients, but on multiple layers, each having a slightly different hue.
