This wallpaper captures the urban essence that proliferated the art of Ghost in the Shell in every incarnation of the series. Phill does an amazing job of capturing a moment of surrealism.

While there are a few, stray building angles and shadows, you find that your eye forgives the minor details and instead focuses on the overall scene that is larger than life, with lights trailing off into infinity.

"Hm, the idea for the seascape is cool and interesting because it varies from the usual theme you see with this character that emphasizes light and sky and celestial elements, so I'll certainly give you that...However the quality of the character herself is very gritty and low quality, my suggestion would be to vector her out so that she comes out looking crisp and clean. Also, the perspective on the fishes is a little whacked out. The fishes that are behind her and should be smaller and farther away are huge, and the ones in front of her are tiny. It may have been your intent that the fish behind her are actually larger fish, but the result is visually confusing."

"This wall is just gorgeous, you get props for making a wall out of anything CLAMP just because their drawings are so rediculously elaborate and detailed, making walling and extracting them a royal pain in the rear xD The clouds and smoke in the backdrop and the foreground blend seamlessly in with the characters, making this image complete...It doesn't look as though the pieces were just put together...Everything in this piece pulls together as a unit stylistically. Beautiful job."

"OMG! IT'S FLUFFY PINK BONDAGE!

[squeals excitedly]

This is one of the coolest cutest funniest wallpapers I've seen in a long time...The best part has got to be all the confetti and lights in the backround, it looks just like a weird outake tangent in an anime episode xD

And great job with the vector work! The lines are crisp and the colors are beautiful and vibrant and the entire thing comes together very well. Nice job!"

"You might want to fix up the image a bit...She's a teeny bit pixellated."

"My only suggestion would be to mabye tweak the colors so that our goddess looks more like she's a part of the backround rather than in front of it...Even though she has the sparkles and stars in front of her she still looks a little detached."

"Nice composition as far as the wings go...The turning feathers frame the piece very nicely and allow your eye to travel naturally over the wings and character. "

"I suppose if it got past the mods they must have allowed it to pass as a wallpaper...It's a very nicely done vector, though personally I would have liked it better if you could see more of both characters, especially the one on the bottom...I kind of get the feeling that she's being pushed out of the picture by her higher aspect, which I suppose is the main focus of the piece but I think it would be a little more balanced because of it."

"It's a very nice color scheme first off, I like the black white and muted browns and greys, it's a personal favorite of mine so for that you get points...The grunginess is nice and normally I'd go all meh on you for using the usual photoshop brushes but I think you made it work so I'll be a nice kitty. I'd like it if the scan of the character was a little bit sharper then it is [especially around her face, it's a bit jagged] but otherwise this is nicely done."

"Meh, I've seen other work from you that's better [nod] Honestly I think the grunginess was taken a little too far to make it so busy it's not even a texture anymore...Plus I can see some pixellation in some of the grunge, unless that was your intention. The color scheme doesn't thrill me either...For some reason the bright blue and bright yellow and brown...If you stuck to cool tones or warmer ones it would pull together much better."

"Pretty trippy and euphoric. I love the play of lights and darks in this one, it really has an other dimensional feel to it...Though I have no idea if it has anything to do with the anime or not, but it's the feel I get...Very nice."

"Heh, everyone seems to love this image of her but this is one of the best walls I've seen made with it. I love the way the circle holds the darker clouds which contrast with the sky around the circle. Kalico is right; the crispness of the circle and lines of the backround make a very pleasant contrast to the cloud texture...Very cool!"

"I like this one for being so bright and clean, I actually kind of like that the characters are a tad on the bright side, the colors nearing that blurred/blinding threshhold that works if you do it right. The abstract backround works well with the peice too, it's a very well done wallpaper."

"Hm, it's a nice try, but you will want to keep in mind that even though it's a collage even in a collage you want to have a certain subject and focus to the piece...otherwise the eye doesn't know what to concentrate on and the viewer is confused. This piece is very busy but if you made the focus of the piece a character or the scenery then it would pull together much better."

"The whole idea was to show how far she has come in her skills in creating wallpapers, Firemistress. It's not a matter of the subject matter, but rather how she has grown as a wallpaper maker since her first wall.

Nuniko, I think this is an awesome idea and will definitley inspire new wallers to someday have your skillz xD"

"Looking at this made me really sad, which I guess was the whole point, so I suppose your piece achieved what you intended xD

There is a very lonley feel with all of this that is emphasized by the overwhelming feel of the sky in this wallpaper. I think this is even more pronounced because of the skewed perspective. "

"Aw, so cute! I love to see wallpapers featuring Chii rendered in CLAMP's original artwork as opposed to the anime version...it's so much frillier and prettier and just plain gorgeous! And of course props to you because CLAMP's Chii's are so detailed that extracting them can be SUCH a pain...I love the colors in this, it's adorable...Mabye I'm just a 'lil biased because this is one of my favorite pics of her...Would you be able to tell mme where you got this scan, because I've been looking for a large one of this picture and can't seem to find it -___-"

Innocent Goddess

"This is quite gorgeous for many reasons. Perhaps one of the best ones is the fact that you took an Ah My Goddess wallpaper and went in quite a different direction color-wise then most I've seen...Many are cool blue or purple toned, lots of cool colors, very heavanly colors, but in this one you emphasized on elegance through color, using gold and burgundy as the primary hues in your pallete. It definitley makes it stand out.

The second cool thing about this is the way you used the angel sculpture images in the wall. I thought it was a nice touch. Even the slight transparency of the hair looks cool...Overall you get a feeling of elegance that makes it seem as though she is toasting someone at a lavish wedding."

Disco Bebop

3 years 3 months ago

"This would be an awesome wall if the vectors of the characters were a little smoother...It's a great idea, and of course fits in the whole BeBop theme very well.

My only other complaint is the choice of colors, not so much the colors themselves but the scheme you used. I think it would be much better if the brightness of the colors were more consistent, you seem to have some darker colors, some pastel colors and then some day-glo type disco colors which would have fit best if they were all that were used. Does this make any sense @__@ It would have looked sharper and more pulled together."

Knockin on Heaven's Door

3 years 3 months ago

"No, Knocking on Heavan's Door was a Bob Dylan song, and everyone [including Led Zepplin and then GNR] did cover on THAT. Geez people, come on now xD If you don't beleive me, look it up.

Now, on to the wallpaper itself...

I like how you used the different typewriter style fonts. Normally using so many different fonts leads to disaster, but you made it fit together with the concept and feel of Cowboy Bepop and since it was intentional, I think it works very well. Great contest entry Todow!"
