Trick or Treat by °chanelqueen17 1 month 1 week ago

^nat
After months of work, chanelqueen17 has created a gorgeous scene of Alice and Oz from Pandora Hearts, using scans that didn't even feature both characters together. Even after spending so much time on matching the details of the characters to their new looks, chanelqueen17 didn't stop there and went all out on the background too! This wallpaper definitely needs to be seen!

Winter's Fragile Light

"Wow, what wonderful colors on the backdrop! I'm surprised this didn't get an S-ranking or above, because I do believe it deserves at least that. Very clean, the brilliance of the orange/yellow bands on the sky contrasts very nicely with the "cooler" blue and gray colors of the landscape. Well done!"

Whoosh! city

"I guess first, I'll address, in my opinion, the only negative: the text mars an otherwise perfectly designed wallpaper. I see it over and over again, a great wallpaper that, by all means, with just its visual merit, is able to stand on its own and carry whatever meaning the author had intended, but is marred by the presence of text. Being a visual medium, a wallpaper shouldn't need text, and very rarely do text complement rather than detract from the overall quality of a piece.

That aside, the simple grayscale cityscape with the grayscale girl works side by side quite nicely and gives a very 1950s era feel. The blimp is a nice touch =)"

Small-town Asuka

1 year 2 months ago

"Huh, who would have thought a "small-town" Asuka could look so sexy. The vectoring certainly adds to the appeal, great job in getting it done! In fact, I'll go as far as to say that, like most of the really awesome vector work, your subject matter is SO meticulously done and came out SO clear that it actually stands out too differently from the more blurred, toned-down backdrop. But hey that's only if you stare at the subject matter for long enough, awesome job!"

::Swordfish II::

"What a slick piece of work, very architectural! Those are some VERY wickedly cool designs on the backdrop, very urban, which fits Spike and the Swordfish II perfectly. Although I don't think the Swordfish II can be considered pink; it was definitely more just red with a slight tint of orange sometimes."

"Awesome job cleaning up the screen cap! And I must say this has got to be one of the most whimsical wallpapers I've come across; definitely unique and something that you don't see every day. Awesome choice of the subject matter!"

Kuchiki Rukia

1 year 3 months ago

"WOW what an eye-catching wallpaper of Rukia!! Black and yellow contrast does quite some wonders here, especially with the centralized placement of Rukia being black, surrounded by a yellow pattern aura, all on top of a pure black background. This transition is done VERY smoothly, and all the dark spaces give plenty of room for stray icons on the desktop to stay without blending in with the wallpaper. Awesome! My only gripe is that it doesn't come in larger resolutions =("

In the dark

1 year 3 months ago

"I agree with the featured review; it's not so much that this wallpaper wowed me but more that it caught my eye by being quite different from the normal stock you see. The darkened tone captures the subjects' faces very effectively, and the subject matter here, in my opinion, is VERY hard, if not outright impossible, to make into a good wallpaper. This isn't something I'd be rushing to put on my desktop, but it's an awesome piece of work, great job!"

Don't cry

"This is quite a sexy vector of an abundantly sexy picture, I believe the sexy sensors are overloading. The triad color scheme (green and orange-ish colors) go really nicely together; it catches the contrast of her flowing robes quite well. Great job!"

Nodame in Deco: Rhapsody in Blue

1 year 3 months ago

"Ooo I love these stylistic pieces, if art deco was what you were after I'd say you succeeded! This could easily be in one of those DeBeers diamond commercials; the use of contrast is THAT good! Although I must say her waist looks a bit awkward due to the curvature of the right violin caving inwards, giving the impression that she is either anorexic or is just missing a chunk of her waist entirely. Still awesome though!"

Tribute to Tarantino 01

"WOW. That is straight up Kill Bill down to a science. Awesome work on the vector! That must have been quite a feat! Everything about this wallpaper screams style, I love the simple color gradient, along with the black streak and blood stain smeared horizontally across; this gives her otherwise very uniform colors some nice contrast. GREAT WORK!"

Principessa Bella

"Ahhh artistic nudity, the best nudity. Great work on the tattoo, it fits on her left arm convincingly, and that's not even to mention the intricacy put into it, which to say, that's a very cool-looking dragon. Awesome stuff!"

Re-Sublimity

"WHOA you painted the clouds on? AND the ground and everything else??!! That is really, really awesome I must say; the entire backdrop looks spectacular. I especially like how you slightly tilted the entire image, because this adds a lot of dramatic weight to the magnificent clouds. The structure is good to use up the "negative" space of the vast backdrop of clouds. Well done!"

A Day in Aqua

1 year 3 months ago

"I thought the clouds and water turned out really well, especially the highlight patterns of the water reflection. The one gripe I have is that the empty blue sky is WAY too dark for the kind of lighting that the clouds and water receives. If the sky is given a lighter blue or maybe even hinting a light source, this wallpaper would be pretty perfect."

Heaven of my dreams

1 year 3 months ago

"Wow you guys really don't mess around when you vector stuff; that is one of the cleanest images of a subject matter I've ever seen in a wallpaper; she literally jumps out at you in comparison to the background, giving the illusion of a close-up camera focus that has a blur in the background. Heh I didn't even know that was meant to be water until I read the description; I personally think the wallpaper works fine without having to think that blue-ish stuff is water. Maybe some awesome, heavenly, ethereal medium that she's touching."

War - Princess Mononoke

1 year 3 months ago

"Wow that's a great image you've put together there, although I don't think it really works as a wallpaper per se. It looks AWESOME as a still-image of a frame of a scene (that of course, like the label said, didn't happen =) ), but as a wallpaper, I think it's just too "distracting," especially with the accompanying text. With all the energy and fervor in the visual form, it doesn't take the written word to convey that there is a battle going on. Mmm would make an excellent postcard too!"

"If I can use one word to describe this wallpaper, the word most certainly be "BADASS." Simple, clean, efficient, and most of all, RAW. The high contrast is definitely eye-catching, and of course the subject matter delivers a certain shiver-down-the-spine feeling, even for those who aren't familiar with the subject matter. Black, white, red, and yellow all combined to make one evil wallpaper, great job! Evil Ichigo rocks!"

Prelude to Destruction

1 year 3 months ago

"First of all, that's an excellent "blob" of cloud you've painted in there, I wouldn't have known if you didn't say so =) Although it seems the shadow is too large and dark on the right side of the cloud; very rarely are clouds so contrasted, if ever. Overall I love the drastic color scheme; purples and darker shades on top, and orange throughout with very, very heavy shadows. This gives an overall impression of urgency, certainly fitting to the onus of knowing that destruction cometh forth. I'd also like to comment that this is one of the rare cases where having text actually HELPS a wallpaper, instead of 99% of the time where it detracts from a wallpaper, simply because here, the text is small and not aggravating, placed directly in the darkest shadows as not to interfere with the beauty of the piece."

Delicate Paradise

"Jeezus I can't believe you vectored the entire thing before adding effects, that is DEDICATION. I don't really see the "stained-glass" effect, but I really do like the texture work. Additionally, is that what seems to be a slightly transparent background of parts of the universe? There seems to be some small, shimmering lights, particularly to the left side, giving the wallpaper an ethereal feel, which very much construes a sense of "paradise," as being something or someplace out of this world. Excellent!"

Kiru ga suki~♥ (I love killing~)

"Now this is a level of polish that you don't see often, especially for such a detailed piece of work. The clouds, the angry sun, and everything makes the backdrop wonderfully whimsical, almost as to poke fun and satirize the fact that the girl wants to, ummm, kill people. The creativity definitely blew me away, and I can't believe you guys vectored so much of it, great job!"

Rukia & Ichigo

"Oo a very metropolitan design, how groovy! I love it when the artists use their characters and put them in "normal, everyday" situations complete with a fitting attire, and certainly here your design has complemented that. The light brown/tan backdrop with the stark, chaotic "graffiti" marking all around really gives it a New York, Brooklyn-esque ambience. Urban dude!"

Possession

"I'm always amazed at how people can make the swirly, circly patterns so intricate and beautiful! The delicacy of the bottom of her dress and her hands spiraling outwards, almost fractal-like, is a very nice touch, and complements the bold flailing hair really well. I wish the image hasn't been so "flattened" down though, but I do understand that the colors and shading needed to be more monochromatic to make the patterning more successful."

Peace Out Jin - Samurai Champloo

"Man, those cutouts. They seal the deal, I've not seen such intricate layering work on the backdrop in awhile. The asian brushstroke painter styling goes really well with the origami folds, and I like that you've used paper/canvas texturing for the upper left corner area instead of saturating the wallpaper with patterns (which would diminish the overall WOW factor of the origami by sheer redundancy). Everything fits really well!"
