"Um, not sure if there is a way i can say things without sounding harsh, but i'm just gonna go ahead and be honest with you. ^^;
first off, that image of kenshin is of unacceptable quality. maybe you tried to get it to fit your bg, but the not-so-smooth coloring, rough outlines, and the dirtiness don't really work. if you did, best to undo that. there is a difference between what you have and the actual painted look. if you did not deliberately make the scan look this way, then well, that image isn't usable in that state. (read: you'll either have to find a higher quality image or vector this.)
the extraction of the image is also poorly done. not only are there straight edges on the curved hair but also a lot of white leftovers. i also noticed that there is an evident cut-off in his hair -- not something you want to be seen. best to draw in what's missing.
the text also appears to be one brush repeated over and over again. the repetition is not necessary and it is not visually appealing. and when it comes to the main image of the bg, the cherry blossoms and branches, all i can say is that it looks like one heavily filtered image. :/ AP asks for a lot of original effort and creativity and the filtering doesn't communicate enough of that. it also makes the bg look low quality because of the spottiness it gives.
the overall image quality is pretty much the biggest issue with this piece. so take this one back to the drawing board and put some more thought and effort into it to make it better. work hard and ganbatte. xD" View

"Ah, i was wondering when you were going to submit. :3 no worries; very different from kiru ga suki although it is the graffiti idea in action again. ah you have no idea how much i love the detail you've put into the graffiti stuff this time. (looks awesome even at the thumbnail viewing stage.) all the waves < 333 and the fish lol xD overall, it's some really cool stuff, although personally, the lines around the sun's rays seem a little stiff and the xD face stands out a bit too much (whereas the spongebob (found him!), equally as random, fits in more).
are you imitating the not-neatly-ripped paper effect down at the bottom? if so, it worked out a lot better on the right side than the left, where it looks a little bit odd. but damn, that's one gorgeous vector. *__* i'm quite fond of the way you did the shading. the texture works beautifully as well.

now time to get nitpick-y. i think the shape of the really bright area should just be a tad more regular and i'm not so sure about the flame-like upward strokes. but those clouds are great. for someone without too much experience and painting without reference, you've done a marvelous job. i like the highlighting around the edges of the cloud, although that cloud to the right side does seem somewhat too dark. coupled with the highlighting, it appears flat (instead of voluminous). the clouds immediately around your intense light source should also be more see through, kind of like the shoulder in this wall. :P i'm also curious about what it would look like if there was a beam shooting from the light source to the left and down (kinda in the direction of the text. but this is really an extra/out-there thought.
i want that plane, lol! i imagine that the streaming clouds bits would be straighter if it was bursting through at high speed. whatever, it's cool. xD again, love your color choices. text is well done (although the H is mostly invisible). that's a pretty purple.

"Haha i was like "ouch, luck isn't with tsu D:" when i first saw that you got assigned indigo. it's pretty much the opposite of your orange. and indigo is such an anti-summer-bright-happy color...not the best for walling summer solstice.
i adore the colors here though :3 except maybe the green; seems kind of awkward where it blends into the purple. (on a completely random note: i walled in green and purple before...man that was a weird wall. x__x) and the blue is used nicely, although it is a little messy in places, most noticeably for her cloak thing. and wow that's a huge billowly train for a cloak. o__o lol

anyway, she must be a very gangster mother nature to have an eye patch (oh wait, maybe that's just the doing of us and our pollution Dx). although the first impression that i had actually was that she was gypsy-like lol. none of that changes the fact that your art is awesome, like i (and lots of people) have been saying over and over again. :3 the blend mode that makes "tag des summer solstice" so light over the moon and so dark over the bg brown makes me tilt my head :/ but it's no biggie.
*random* the bulrush stems made me think of harp strings. *starts playing angelic music*
"Haha, yeah there were lots of phrases from nana that i thought was clever. xD but okay, to the wall. i'll try to be concise.
1. composition -- it's poor right now because you just have four pictures (arranged so that they kinda divide the wall into quarters) and text fitted in wherever there's extra space. with a wallpaper, there must be a clear focus and supporting elements. it's not a collection of pictures. :x so i would cut down on the number of images. (recommendation: stick with nana and hachi to define the focus of your concept.)
2. quality -- the images are of rather low quality. the two nana ones seem to be from the manga, which is not the preferred source until you are familiar with vectoring (or a similar method of considerably upping the image quality). the cut off for hachi's head is also a no-no. ^^; to make getting started easier, why not look for better images that are easier to work with?
3. background -- ...or rather, the lack of it. the background is where a waller gets to show originality and to create stuff.
4. blending -- under normal circumstances, it is best not to use a fade-out look when it will appear as if you are disguising the fact that the rest of the image is missing. with simple/abstract designs, you can have, say, other elements, frames etc. cut the pic off.
"Lol what a coincidence. summer solstice has been on my mind and many other people's minds a lot lately. (it's the theme for gid's pool party round 1, in case you haven't heard of it yet...but i doubt that, what with the flood of entries uploaded to AP and all. xD) and here we have winter solstice.
i like the layered feel to the background and the blue is pleasant on the eyes. there is a sense of vast and empty iciness, which is great. but i do have to be honest and say that i'm kinda disappointed in the composition. the important elements are so scattered that things don't look "together" ...if i make any sense at all. ^^; on more of a personal taste issue, i find the font to be rather on the side of the "generic cursive". wait *searches* ah, seems like the font tutorial got removed from pixelated graffiti. it would have explained that point. >__<

you should already know i like your vector for this one, with that painted touch (and unforgettably, justin's-super-thin-lines™!). the pink-to-azure does look better than the electric blue-to-azure and your soft clouds are super awesome. < 3 so pretty. *steals them and stuffs them in my closet where i hid yina's clouds* mm, and the house thing helps the composition a lot 'cause it balances things out and makes the missing horizon more negligible.

"Whoa an anbuu and anolibb collab. *__* that's like twice the vector art awesomeness! what can i say, you guys did a wonderful job. it's dark enough that it is desktop-friendly for my dying eyes and look, i see my resolution. :'D but i can imagine someone saying in the future: "why is that guy sticking out his middle finger? o__O" and i would totally fail at adequately answering that...
and onto the relevant details. ahh i want to steal saya's sword. >x3 that's really smooth vectoring and i love the shifting colors over the blade. i guess that's my new weakness: sleek bluish metallic surfaces. argh that sounds so lame. -__-; i also really like saya's skirt. the varying blues and all the shapes are just beautiful. the shading on her shirt looks a little messy where it magically lights up underneath a really dark point. :x and of course, you always vector hair nicely.
a little random note: the magical effects affect saya's skin tone and comparing her right hand to her arm, she seems to get untanned. ...and then there's the gray leg. xD no big deal; i thought the tan-to-untanned part is funny. don't throw anything at me. >__> *goes on to admire that grungy wall* it's pretty. < 3 just a question though: the angle on the characters is tilted by why is the wall magically upright?

"Gorgeous thumbnail and the full view doesn't disappoint. xD that's some sleek design and i like it. i like all the black negative space too. (i can see this on my desktop, but darn, there's only widescreen. >__>) ah, love your choice of throwing in the magenta! :3 works beautifully here. no other color would have this effect. and now, don't mind while i voice a few minor complaints.
the partial painting on the shirt confuses the lighting for me, seeing as the white highlight is already somewhat confusing, but i don't quite mind as much as i normally would. and i don't know if it's possible to get rid of but the jaggedness stands out quite sharply for his lip. (negligible in the hair, mainly because my monitor's dark enough that combined with the darkness of the wall, it's all good, lol.) now, about the reflection of his right shoe: at this viewing angle, the proper reflection cannot be achieved by a mere vertical flip. (you can only get away with this if the view is head-on linear. ;]) and it's too bad that the text is flat for this three dimensional wall with its not-so-common perspective.
don't throw things at me for that last paragraph. :'D despite all that i mentioned, i love your wall. (or else i wouldn't bother with writing all that.) it's a +fav, needless to say, because the color scheme and design sit well with me." View

anyway, the wall is beautiful as it is in grayscale. the details of that, er, machine thing next to the girl! *__* of course, the vector is gorgeous. it fits in with the painted stuff because your vectoring method has this similar "fluidity"...if that makes any sense at all. love your painting, especially those tendril-y flames. (that's fire, right?)
and i'm no scenic waller but the perspective seems pretty much fine to me. although to be honest, i am a little unsure of the structure with multiple round levels that the flames are coming out of... the level that has your sig on it seems to tilt somewhat away from the viewer compared to the others. anyway, even if it is not just because i see things weirdly, it is minor.

what bugs me a little is the lighting. the buildings suggest a strong light source in the distance that the viewers are facing, with some weak reflected light hitting sides of the buildings that are hidden from the light source. however, the character suggest a strong light source somewhere to the left and behind the viewer. the lighting on her also does not show that there is a strong light source behind her. that disagreement, along with her relative simplicity and her wider color range, makes her pop out of the bg a tad much.
that being said, i'm in complete awe of your bg. o__o when i downloaded, that unbelievable amount of detail just blew me away, for lack of a less cliché description. i'm not gonna blabber on in an attempt to describe my amazement because words would fail at communicating it. xD how much patience and effort... i can only stare and marvel at it.

you guys did a great job with the vectoring and painting. :3 but although minor, like i was saying in fmn, i would have liked to see stronger shadows on the castle. and justin, if you read this, you didn't fix all the leaking colors. :O and i just noticed now, but the outlines on the highest vertical brown walls are...um, weird (dunno how to describe it) where they overlap with the white ice-wing-whatchamacallits. (omg whatchamacallits is not underlined by firefox! i guess it gave up on my made-up vocabulary :'D) a negligible note about french: when it comes to capitalization, as far as i know and have seen, only the first letter of the first word of the title is capitalized and the remaining starting letters are not.

"Haha, yeah there were lots of phrases from nana that i thought was clever. xD but okay, to the wall. i'll try to be concise.1. composition -- it's poor right now because you just have four pictures (arranged so that they kinda divide the wall into quarters) and text fitted in wherever there's extra space. with a wallpaper, there must be a clear focus and supporting elements. it's not a collection of pictures. :x so i would cut down on the number of images. (recommendation: stick with nana and hachi to define the focus of your concept.)
2. quality -- the images are of rather low quality. the two nana ones seem to be from the manga, which is not the preferred source until you are familiar with vectoring (or a similar method of considerably upping the image quality). the cut off for hachi's head is also a no-no. ^^; to make getting started easier, why not look for better images that are easier to work with?
3. background -- ...or rather, the lack of it. the background is where a waller gets to show originality and to create stuff.
4. blending -- under normal circumstances, it is best not to use a fade-out look when it will appear as if you are disguising the fact that the rest of the image is missing. with simple/abstract designs, you can have, say, other elements, frames etc. cut the pic off.

"Lol what a coincidence. summer solstice has been on my mind and many other people's minds a lot lately. (it's the theme for gid's pool party round 1, in case you haven't heard of it yet...but i doubt that, what with the flood of entries uploaded to AP and all. xD) and here we have winter solstice.i like the layered feel to the background and the blue is pleasant on the eyes. there is a sense of vast and empty iciness, which is great. but i do have to be honest and say that i'm kinda disappointed in the composition. the important elements are so scattered that things don't look "together" ...if i make any sense at all. ^^; on more of a personal taste issue, i find the font to be rather on the side of the "generic cursive". wait *searches* ah, seems like the font tutorial got removed from pixelated graffiti. it would have explained that point. >__<

"Anbuu you are just brilliant. :'D and i, for one, would love to know how long this took you because you joined so last minute.needless to say, i love minimalism. great scene and gorgeous text. *__* although i think the more appropriate location for the ellipsis (the "...") would be in front of "and" because "and the sun was still shining" sounds like the latter half of a sentence and the ellipsis would show the continuation from the previous half. minor detail. and only if that clock thing blended more :/ it looks flat when it seems that it is supposed to be round. ("like a light bulb!" ...is what came to mind.) and it's shadow seems to be on the opposite side from the head's shadow? o__o

DDDx lol okay, it doesn't make a great war cry. i didn't know the word existed before i saw gid assign you that color. i learned something new. :3 it can be my new means-anything-and-everything word! like, that's so periwinkle! (NO i did NOT hit my head on something.) so "xia" means "summer" and "zhi" means "solstice"? haha, good job saku (or should i say yina?) for picking a title that many people can't pronounce. xD *cough* now the relevant stuff. >__>yay you finished all those buildings! \o/ talk about crazy. >xD and using a 3D software is beyond me so thumbs up there. at first i thought the buildings were missing their shadows, which was weird, but then the rest of the wall loaded and i saw the closer ones do have shadows. the fog is a nice touch! you did your best for the blending, but i still kinda feel the difference there between her and the city...partially because i see her floating inside a circle as opposed to a bubble. :x ah periwinkles. (i thought i was saying wrinkles for a minute 8])

"Lol water fairies 8] so in the end no birds? :O oh well. the wall is fine without them.you should already know i like your vector for this one, with that painted touch (and unforgettably, justin's-super-thin-lines™!). the pink-to-azure does look better than the electric blue-to-azure and your soft clouds are super awesome. < 3 so pretty. *steals them and stuffs them in my closet where i hid yina's clouds* mm, and the house thing helps the composition a lot 'cause it balances things out and makes the missing horizon more negligible.

"Whoa an anbuu and anolibb collab. *__* that's like twice the vector art awesomeness! what can i say, you guys did a wonderful job. it's dark enough that it is desktop-friendly for my dying eyes and look, i see my resolution. :'D but i can imagine someone saying in the future: "why is that guy sticking out his middle finger? o__O" and i would totally fail at adequately answering that...and onto the relevant details. ahh i want to steal saya's sword. >x3 that's really smooth vectoring and i love the shifting colors over the blade. i guess that's my new weakness: sleek bluish metallic surfaces. argh that sounds so lame. -__-; i also really like saya's skirt. the varying blues and all the shapes are just beautiful. the shading on her shirt looks a little messy where it magically lights up underneath a really dark point. :x and of course, you always vector hair nicely.
a little random note: the magical effects affect saya's skin tone and comparing her right hand to her arm, she seems to get untanned. ...and then there's the gray leg. xD no big deal; i thought the tan-to-untanned part is funny. don't throw anything at me. >__> *goes on to admire that grungy wall* it's pretty. < 3 just a question though: the angle on the characters is tilted by why is the wall magically upright?
anyway, it's a +fav. lotsa blue is always nice to see and great work. ;] i'll be looking forward to your future collabs."

DD: well, nonetheless, i just wanted you to know i think i prefer the darker version, just because it looks more sunset-like to me and i love sunsets to death. so pretty! and ah, of course, those clouds are to die for. < 333333 (oops, i said something death-related...twice too.) i want to steal them away...and hide them in my closet. o__O

"Gorgeous thumbnail and the full view doesn't disappoint. xD that's some sleek design and i like it. i like all the black negative space too. (i can see this on my desktop, but darn, there's only widescreen. >__>) ah, love your choice of throwing in the magenta! :3 works beautifully here. no other color would have this effect. and now, don't mind while i voice a few minor complaints.the partial painting on the shirt confuses the lighting for me, seeing as the white highlight is already somewhat confusing, but i don't quite mind as much as i normally would. and i don't know if it's possible to get rid of but the jaggedness stands out quite sharply for his lip. (negligible in the hair, mainly because my monitor's dark enough that combined with the darkness of the wall, it's all good, lol.) now, about the reflection of his right shoe: at this viewing angle, the proper reflection cannot be achieved by a mere vertical flip. (you can only get away with this if the view is head-on linear. ;]) and it's too bad that the text is flat for this three dimensional wall with its not-so-common perspective.
don't throw things at me for that last paragraph. :'D despite all that i mentioned, i love your wall. (or else i wouldn't bother with writing all that.) it's a +fav, needless to say, because the color scheme and design sit well with me."

"Darn i can't seem to open the link to the slightly colored version D: *kicks computer* nope, still no good. i guess i will just have to try again later.anyway, the wall is beautiful as it is in grayscale. the details of that, er, machine thing next to the girl! *__* of course, the vector is gorgeous. it fits in with the painted stuff because your vectoring method has this similar "fluidity"...if that makes any sense at all. love your painting, especially those tendril-y flames. (that's fire, right?)
and i'm no scenic waller but the perspective seems pretty much fine to me. although to be honest, i am a little unsure of the structure with multiple round levels that the flames are coming out of... the level that has your sig on it seems to tilt somewhat away from the viewer compared to the others. anyway, even if it is not just because i see things weirdly, it is minor.

"... o__o you are crazy, have i ever said that to you before? like seriously, this is insane. >xDwhat bugs me a little is the lighting. the buildings suggest a strong light source in the distance that the viewers are facing, with some weak reflected light hitting sides of the buildings that are hidden from the light source. however, the character suggest a strong light source somewhere to the left and behind the viewer. the lighting on her also does not show that there is a strong light source behind her. that disagreement, along with her relative simplicity and her wider color range, makes her pop out of the bg a tad much.
that being said, i'm in complete awe of your bg. o__o when i downloaded, that unbelievable amount of detail just blew me away, for lack of a less cliché description. i'm not gonna blabber on in an attempt to describe my amazement because words would fail at communicating it. xD how much patience and effort... i can only stare and marvel at it.
so needless to say, +fav. if i could do one of those whistles that people do when they are impressed, i would. x]"

"It's finished! >xD walling scenes from manga images is always challenging, 'cause there are always these details that you can't quite make out clearly and you have to work harder than with normal vectoring. D: i have tried it a few times and i pretty much always quit after a while. *is lazy, can you tell?*you guys did a great job with the vectoring and painting. :3 but although minor, like i was saying in fmn, i would have liked to see stronger shadows on the castle. and justin, if you read this, you didn't fix all the leaking colors. :O and i just noticed now, but the outlines on the highest vertical brown walls are...um, weird (dunno how to describe it) where they overlap with the white ice-wing-whatchamacallits. (omg whatchamacallits is not underlined by firefox! i guess it gave up on my made-up vocabulary :'D) a negligible note about french: when it comes to capitalization, as far as i know and have seen, only the first letter of the first word of the title is capitalized and the remaining starting letters are not.
